Mr. Butcher isn't going to care about how evil Larson is. He loves evil. [EDIT: after seeing some comments and reading the discord, I've changed my answer. I'd like to see how the Larson option plays out.]

I really want to know John's perspective on this. Though I guess he's just yelling "Arthur!" to no avail

Brie

He didn't want to kill that one cop because he had a family at home. It's possible he values family and won't like that Larson sacrificed his daughter

okay, hear me out, because I've been thinking about this a lot 1 - this is fiction. we aren't choosing whether or not Arthur dies, we are choosing what kind of story we want to hear. 2 - yes, obviously the butcher isn't going to care about Larson's murders, but there is a teeny tiny chance he will care about the way Larson WENT ABOUT the murders. 3 - anyone remember Kimbly from FMA? spoilers for a 20 year old manga and 10 year old anime, but he was a mass murderer who deeply enjoyed all of his war crimes. cherished every memory. the bad guys hired him for bad stuff, and some complicated things happened, but at the last second was pivotal to the defeat of one of the bad guys. 4 - why? because all of his murderous tendencies were built on a very strongly held set of principles. they seem batshit insane to your average anime hero, but to him they had an internal logic. the butcher has shown that his justifications for murder also follow an internal logic. "it's like falling in love". the biggest factor is dedication - CARE, in other words. 5 - yeah, the butcher would likely be more distracted reminiscing about his own past kills. maybe we'd learn even more about what makes him tic. but the story I'D be interested in? is one where he takes a bit of personal offense to the way Larson just dumped hundreds of unconscious bodies into his basement with no follow up and just kind of let them do their own thing down there.

If we tell the Butcher about Larson’s misdeeds and it actually strikes him as offensive or wrong (which it might, based on the details and methods of Larson’s kills), then we might be able to turn his hunt onto Larson. Guy wants someone to kill, so let’s attempt to convince him that we’re the wrong guy.

What better way to prove your skill than hunting and killing a human that’s made himself “immortal” ?

Dipity

I absolutely don't expect talking about Larson to sway the butcher or change his mind in any way about killing Arthur, but this is more about distracting him and I think there's still a lot we could get out of that option • it's our best chance to find out where the order of the fallen star is after the freemasons thing didn't work out • its a good chance for Arthur to find out what Collins knows/how he feels about eldritch stuff • Collins holds the "unrelenting pursuit" in high regard and might appreciate that Arthur came to New York entirely to pursue Larson • Larson's immortality goes against Collins' whole "memento mori" philosophy of All Men Must Die

Squid

I think people have brought up some really good previous points about using Larson’s immortality as a kind of lure to get The Butcher to leave Arthur and John alone. Agree with all those. In addition, the previous conversation Arthur has set up with comparing The Butcher to a tool or a dog sets it up really nicely to have The Butcher turn against his masters. Arthur’s right, they are using Butcher as a tool, and what man wants to be used as a tool? He’s a wild dog, one that can’t be controlled and only has a taste for blood, so why can’t that wolf be turned against his masters? Arthur has his moments where he can be very good with words, I think this is a prime opportunity to use the set-up Arthur’s done with the metaphors. He’s already earned a kind of respect from The Butcher, he may be able to gain some more stating he has a similar goal to get rid of a man who’s been deserving death for a long time.

At first, I was going to choose telling him about Elijah, because I couldn't possibly see Mr. Collins being swayed whatsoever by how terrible Larson is; however, I must say, the comments have swayed me. He did show compassion on that policeman who had a family and wanted him to live. He does hold the ideal of memento mori, and Larson DOES go against that. In any case, I would be highly interested in hearing his thoughts about Larson, fully.

Alexi

the fact that larson has any votes at all is ludicrous

Cytosine

This comment seems unnecessarily harsh to me, and I voted for Strong

Hallow

something on the lines of “what the FUCK are you doing”

Teakettle

Right. No strong gut feeling this week but I'm finalising my vote for Larson because A- Dipity argument about memento mori is convincing B- Arthur phrases it as 'something you don't know' and Larson's immortality (and him being Wally rather than Andy) seems more compelling that an old murder and torture gig the Butcher was there for anyway C- If we are choosing lore, I'd rather Wally lore over Dennis lore any day. I want to know what kind of eldritch crap Wally is involved in.

Nicky

I don’t think he actually cared, but was trying to appeal to the guy to let him go quickly so he could get back to hunting Arthur ASAP

Nicky

How Arthur frames either could be very important to how Collin’s responds and both have interesting possibilities. I think I’m going to hold my vote unless we appear to be approaching a tie…

It's been a hot second since I've really chimed in on a poll, but I really have a huge hangup about the Larson argument. What on Earth would stop him from being like "'kay thanks!" and blowing Arthur away even if he DID care about Larson's immortality? Absolutely nothing, imo. The guy is absolutely bloodthirsty. He revels in it. And Memento Mori, right? Arthur's gotta die of SOMETHING, just like everybody else, so why not just do the job he was paid to do and THEN go right the wrong of Larson? I see no reason why his personal code of ethics, at least as we've seen it so far, would keep him from doing that. Fundamentally, this guy serves the Reaper. He is a Death Mask. He sees himself as an instrument of something inevitable and nothing more; he's not LIKE a corruption of worship in that way, but he IS one. He'll give people half a chance to run if it serves him, but if not? Oh well! It's the Will of Death! I genuinely think there's no real getting through to him. He is a self-admitted mad dog, and he's shown hints of having quite an ego about it a few times now. I think our best chance here is to butter him up about his horrifying reputation, and hope that he gets distracted enough that there's a chance to make a break for it. Arthur's nothing if not crafty, and besides, there's a definite possibility that he might actually know more than we think he does, and just needed Collins to piece it together.

ok looking back on this…whos to say that bringing up Larson was a ploy to tug on his heart strings? MAN now I’m regretting my choices here arrgh. EDIT: What I’m saying is, perhaps he wanted us not to choose Larson…hmm..
