HakureiRyuu

well well well, if it isn't the consequences of my own actions

Amy

Well this is a problem EDIT: what if we went back to the hospital and gave the rock to someone who’s almost dead?

BeastlyDeath

We can't do that to Oscar. Not after what he's done. I'd say we either find a target (cough cough the butcher) we know is deserving or we hunt for one that we don't know. Oscar has done way too much for us out of the kindness of his own heart for us to chance not coming up with a solution. We can deal with locating scratch once we get all the tools we need to deal with it. Plus as creepy as scratch is, all we know is it possesses someone and gives them nightmares so maybe it doesn't get its energy from killing?

Hallow

I say we go the research route, not because it’s the most optimal one but it may be easier on Arthur’s psyche. Showing trust in Oscar, looking for another way that doesn’t involve dooming anybody, and if it comes down to it…..we may unfortunately have a willing volunteer…….

Janus

i refuse to doom oscar. Hes been good to us and cursing him feels very wrong

DuckDuckDuck

I guess in hindsight, all of those badass Oscar moments that made the fanbase become attached to him were red flags.

Hallow

Also: Oscar is already doomed from the start. How? He considers Arthur as an ally and we all know what happens to Arthur’s allies…. Letting Oscar know before hand that we have the stone in the first place would also ensure that if we are dooming him it won’t be behind his back.

Megs

I vote for not throwing Oscar under the bus.

HakureiRyuu

I'm pretty sure the butcher is taken off the table as an option at this point. personally I didn't realize there was a time limit? it makes sense, but it also means Larson's out as well.

HakureiRyuu

you wouldn't be voting to damn him, you'd be voting to put his life(soul) on the line. I imagine there'd be a series of votes we'd have to get right to save him if we went that route. like saving daniel in the last set. likewise if we go hunting for victims now, we'd have to pick one, and knowing Harlan they'd all suck XD

Alice Blue

I might be reading into things a bit here but does anyone else find it suspicious that John seemed to recognize Faroe immediately but then tried to hide it/backtrack? I don't think he's ever actually seen her right? Or I could be remembering it wrong. Also poor Oscar, I fear he's doomed either way.

Ghozteevee

Aaah shit this is a tough decision here, on the one hand I really don't want to risk Oscar, especially since I voted to tell him last time. He would be an incredible ally to Arthur and he needs more of those right now. But, on the other hand I don't want to potentially condem someone to suffer Scratch's nightmares.(even if Harlan has mercy on us and gives us a horrible, horrible person as the target) Hearing Arthur's was enough for me to know that that will suck. And I don't think Arthur's psyche can handle anymore trauma/guilt if the person ends up being a innocent person. But I think we should try to find a way to seal Scratch away, we will probably have told Oscar the situation and we can't forget that the landlady also has a stake in this so she might be able to help. So that would be 3 people searching for a way to at the very least buy time.

Ghozteevee

I think you're right, I don't remember John ever seeing her. Hell Arthur didn't even really tell him about her till the Dreamlands and I doubt he has pictures of her available before that, he probably did the same thing as Daniel and put them all away

PrettyBoyDevito

I mean... I'm curious about what would happen if we just... kept the stone. Would Mr. Scratch and John have to metaphysically duke it out for possession of Arthur's body? If that's the case, my money's on John. Hypotheticals aside, there is no way we're cursing Oscar. Absolutely not. Arthur has (by his own admission) been selfish his entire life but he is trying to be better. He wants to grow as a person and he won't be able to if he keeps listening to John, who is very quick to sacrifice their friends. John seems to like it when he is all Arthur has and I don't trust that. Sorry John, but Arthur needs allies- Arthur needs /friends/.

Igor

Putting Oscar's fate aside for a moment, there's a a question really worth asking: how useful the beastiary we're about to study has been? Beacuse, as far as I can remember, the book was giving us answers on WHAT we encounter, not on HOW TO STOP whatever we encounter. So the question is really this: are we willing to put Oscar's life on the line for something that has barely been useful before? I am all against dooming some bystender, regardless of their innocence - moreover, I think you really must be Butcher-level criminal to truly deserve what Scratch does to his hosts. Scratch has to be dealt with. The question is - what really buys us more time and resources to really deal with him? I say saving Oscar from this fate (potentially) is not only good for Arthur's moral compas, but also gives time, ally and connections (Oscar knows about first encounter with Scratch and is a capable information seeker) to deal with Scratch so he must be preserved.

Nicky

But Scratch was able to shove John aside when not even fully possessing Arthur, just inhabiting his dream, so I wouldn’t count too much on John’s ability to overpower him.

HeavenlyBibi

I feel like he must also know more than he let on about how exactly the possession when on, and maybe will also help to convince Marie in providing her own info

Amy

I’m not putting my money on John right now, he seems weakened.

Igor

true! We still haven't got much info on previous possession - we really need to hear all available info before rushing

Nicky

Research isn’t limited to just the Beastiary - Oscar and Marie could have more info, there could be more learned by searching the house with more context and urgency, there’s the additional house up North that could be related / be worth investigating, etc. And if it does come to it, if what we’ve heard about Hattie and Marie’s husband are anything to go by, we wouldn’t immediately fully lose Oscar - it will take time for him to be asleep/fully posessed all / most of the time.

Nicky

And another factor to consider is what John would learn/take from either choice, especially since he is really grappling with morality right now. Do we set the example of passing arbitrary judgement on others to escape consequences of our own actions Or Do we set the example of trying hardest to solve/fix things, even if there’s a risk of failure

Jess

If only we had someone who never sleeps and doesn't have a body that we could give the stone to...

Brandi

I realize I'm way behind, but I'm loving getting caught up. And am *so excited * about exploring another creepy property
