Buddy system

Tricky. On the one hand, I'm worried that taking Oscar with us might endanger him. On the other hand, leaving him alone there doesn't seem like a great idea either, and I wouldn’t want him to wander around alone when he decides to go looking for Arthur.

Igor

Considering that Oscar now has more information to work with - high chances he will find the actual ritual to deal with Scratch. On the other hand dividing the party near the spooky abandoned house with a ritual site never a good idea.

Flamia

Difficult choice, but perhaps keeping Oscar close is best, especially since now we know giant wasps are potentially out and about.

Amy

Look, I am all in on the Arthur-Oscar friendship arc we got going on here. Sorry John, we need to get our boy

Samantha Noel

Seems safer to have someone else with us, plus something could happen to Oscar if we leave him outside

Waffle 427

Don’t leave Oscar behind, don’t let him die.

Fisher

THERE’S WASPS AFOOT, BUDDY SYSTEM IS A NECESSARY PRECAUTION

Igor

For those concerned with giant wasps, please consider where Oscar would be safest: in the car beyond ritual site property with locked doors and windows or in the house with us, trying to keep up as we (I’m 100% sure) are going to RUN FOR OUR LIVES

Igor

Well if Oscar indeed is going to stay in the car and won’t decide to go help us on his own - that’s a possibility too, unfortunately

Fisher

But think about this - Oscar is outside in the car. Arthur is inside the house. The wasps, if they’re around, are probably out on the property. And we just disturbed one of their nests by opening the barn door and making a loud noise. When the wasps roll up they’re not going to see Arthur if he’s in the house, they’re going to see the car with Oscar inside. I think that would be a Big Problem for him.

Fisher

The car also isn’t beyond the property, it’s like been pulled up right there in front of the house, as Arthur was able to easily walk over towards the barn from it in short time. I also think that if Arthur chooses to go on ahead into the house, he’s not actually going to tell Oscar about the wasp nest; if he did tell him, I think that Oscar would naturally be like “that sounds terrifying, can I stick with you then?” He’s also been rather capable against comparatively mundane threats, like the Butcher, but I think that his minimal experience with otherworldly creatures he’s only just now learned about the existence of won’t be enough to let him be super capable at fighting them off.

Brie

On one hand Oscar would be safer in the car (and John will get pissy if he comes with 🙄) But on the other hand it's a good idea to have a second pair of eyes since Arthur's current "eyes" have been missing stuff lately, intentionally or not Tough choice

Teakettle

Last time we took someone with us they kicked the bucket in about five minutes

Sarah Taylor

I'm a little disappointed that you see the vote % before you cast your own vote now.

Sarah Taylor

Absolutely buddy system, don't leave Oscar to struggle on his own

Dipity

ngl same, I liked the Suspense and Mystery and Intrigue of having it invisible before voting

Marie

I’m reconsidering…. What if bringing him is worse….

Waffle 427

Okay but I’d rather save a life than rather bitterly regret not being able to save him.

Waffle 427

I’d never be able to live with myself if something bad were to happen to him

Alexi

why exactly would we bother him instead of letting him read. if he finds something he will come get us and if we find something we will go get him. absolutely no reason to disturb him rn

Fisher

But a lot of things could happen that interrupt his reading. He could fall asleep (he’s already mentioned how late it was and how they’d probably need to spend the night here, so he may already be tired), become distracted by the wasp creatures if they’re still around, or even get out the car to investigate something himself. It doesn’t sound like Arthur is going to go back to the car and tell Oscar about what he found in the barn or even that he’s going to search alone in the house, so to Oscar’s perspective he might just think Arthur’s still looking around the property and try to go find him, which could land him in trouble. Considering the nature of Scratch as well, it seems like a very unique entity that hasn’t been catalogued (which would make sense if he was a fragment of Hypnos) and so I don’t think the book will have many answers outside from what we’ve already gleaned about Hypnos. We’ll learn more about Scratch specifically by searching the house and anything the owner left behind, I think, so having Oscar’s eyes with us will be the most helpful I think.

Jess

Much as I'd like to know more about what's in the book, I don't think we can trust John's eyes on this. All of his visual inaccuracies so far have worked to slow down getting to this place (and whatever answers are here.) Without Oscar, Arthur could end up looking right at the solution he needs and not even know it.

Teakettle

I am finalising my vote on the side of not splitting the party. Although I would really have liked to read the book some more.

Raven Fritz

I think it's best to leave Arthur to his studies, he may even be better prepared to fight hypnos soon
