Did I get the first vote???? Never in my life.

K.M.

Okay- going on record… Oscar said “don’t” and he read the book (might know something), John seems PRETTY EAGER to get rid of Oscar- so blind surgery seems an easy way to do that, and using Kayne’s dagger seems like a TERRIBLE IDEA! BUT. Harlan kept saying we were making an awful lot of assumptions so who knows 😂

Benjamin Wigler

I’m with KM! Pretty sure the bug is going to end up being a very freaky ally.

Isi

I am not okay with adding blood loss to Oscar's bug problem, especially with Kayne's ritual dagger wielded in a panic by a blind man and his entity with spotty perception, with Oscar BEGGING HIM NOT TO. With all of Oscar's time reading the bestiary, he may know something and may suggest another alternative!

Courtney Wathne

I think we should leave it alone. Oscar seems to know something we don't, and he DID read the bestiary.

devotedwretch

leave it!! i love love love john but i honestly don’t trust him much rn. plus, if we got rid of EVERY supernatural entity that lived in someone’s body where would we be?? isn’t this the spooky-guy-living-inside-another-guy show??

Jeanette

Leave it be, my friends 🖤 it’s bug time 🪲

Kat Rooney

Might be the minority here, but if you were Just Some Guy and the answer to whatever was attacking you was to cut it out, I think you'd also scream not to do it. That doesn't mean it's logical, or he knows something we don't. It's scary.

Waffle 427

Dig it out obviously, I mean there’s obviously a risk of Oscar dying from an infected wound but still.. my poor baby ): he needs to be saved. We should dig it out and hope for the best.

Teakettle

I am 100% not going to leave a bug that's burrowing in someone's flesh alone. Yes I don't trust John right now, but the way the poll is worded signifies inaction to me, and I think inaction is a very bad idea right now.

Horsebone

Why would we leave a flesh-burrowing bug inside our new friend? It's Oscar's first time with a monster, of course he's scared, but obviously that thing has got to come out. The tadpole tried to get into Arthur, too, and nobody wanted to leave that thing in.

Scottie

No way. Cannot, will not, leave it be.

Nicky

His flailing about in protest while John, who sounds overly eager to cut this guy he can’t stand/has intense jealousy issues about, takes the lead carving into him sounds like a great way to cause Oscar and/or Arthur greivous harm, and potentially ruin any chances of Oscar providing further help. But on the other hand, who know what that bug could get up to if left to its own devices. Rough one this week…

Fisher

I’ll admit the phrasing of the poll options was the exact thing I was so worried about happening that I’m worried I’ll have no shot at convincing enough people but here, this is my definitive thesis statement on why we should ignore the obvious choice and make like the Beatles and “Let It Be”:

Fisher

1. Arthur has been here before in this exact situation in s1. He had the tadpole burying into his arm, tried to remove it with brute force, and it didn’t work, the tadpole just burrowed deeper after detaching its tail. If this bug is a kind that regularly burrows into flesh, I bet that it’ll have some similar defense mechanism and trying to cut it out could trigger it to latch on and burrow deeper, causing more damage to Oscar.

Fisher

2. I HOPED we wouldn’t have such a blunt implication of “do nothing at all” as our other option, because I think that there’s a chance for Arthur to come up with another solution if he doesn’t listen to John’s impulsive ass and just uses his brain for a second. I think he’s already been thinking about his past adventures and could feasibly recall his tadpole experience: he COULDN’T dig it out, he had to use his LIGHTER to burn it out! I believe in him to remember that if he just has a moment to think.

Jillian Pogoda

Going to put here what I said on the discord: John is being very weird and insistent that we use *Kayne’s dagger* specifically to get the insect out, and we all know Kayne is less than trustworthy. Poll is currently 50/50, but I’m leaning towards letting it be because maybe Oscar knows what this is from the book. Also keep in mind that John is not the biggest fan of Oscar and I don’t think we should really trust his call when it comes to him, especially when he’s suffering from eldritch Alzheimer’s. My friend also brought up the good point that maybe we can use the lighter to coax it out

Fisher

3. Oscar isn’t asking for Arthur’s help. He could just be in shock, but I find it so strange that he isn’t screaming “OH GOD ALMIGHTY LORD JESUS GET THIS FUCKING INSECT OUT MY DAMN ARM ARTHUR HELP ME GET IT OUT” in his panic and desperation. He could just be afraid of more pain, but it stuck out to me so much I had to double take when listening the first time because I was sure I’d misheard him. There’s a possibility that Oscar actually KNOWS what this creature is from reading the book; they’re from the Dreamlands, and the book seemed to have a lot of specific info about creatures from there. Alternatively: he could be thinking about the way that ticks and similar insects are commonly thought to be combatted by burning them, or even just that trying to force something like that out of you tends to be unsuccessful. I think it’s likely either way that Oscar has some kind of idea on what to do, which could prompt Arthur to come up with another solution!

Fisher

4. JOHN IS GOING TO BE USING KAYNE’S DAGGER AND I CAN’T STRESS HOW BAD OF A CALL I THINK THAT IS. Not only that but I absolutely have zero faith in John’s ability to work with surgical precision in a way that mitigates the damage done to Oscar. The phrasing of “DIG IT OUT” gives me even less hope. I think with how panicked John is, and after having another Memory Moment™️, his course of action is to just start gouging around the bug as it continues to move deeper, opening up multiple wounds almong the way and making the possibility of a near-fatal wound VERY likely. And if Oscar dies here - or even if he doesn’t, and he’s just severely incapacitated by blood loss - it’s going to make his cooperation in finding a way to defeat Scratch much harder. He might not even be willing to cooperate at all after having Arthur “I killed 7 people” Lester go animal style on his arm.

Fisher

5. I doubt that Oscar is going to be willing to hold still for us. Arthur will probably have to use his other arm to grapple him and keep him still, while he’s probably going to panic and try to get away - ESPECIALLY IF OSCAR DOES HAVE ANOTHER IDEA OF WHAT TO DO, AND KNOWS THAT ARTHUR IS MAKING A MISTAKE BY DIGGING IT OUT WITH FORCE. That coupled with John and the knife would be very dangerous. The chance for an accident would dramatically increase especially if the bug just keeps on going up into Oscar’s shoulder and then gets nearer to the vitals around the neck. I don’t think that John would intentionally try to kill Oscar, but I think that he could totally fuck up and make a mistake. And if he does, and even if it is a mistake, Arthur would NOT be in a position to believe John and would no doubt turn on him viciously in a way that we haven’t seen in season 4 as of yet. If that happens, we lose Oscar as our backup for Scratch and lose our chance to end him once and for all, making all of the preparation we’ve put in towards that useless.

Jess

Oscar knows Arthur has killed 7 (or similar) people. And now Arthur is standing over him with a knife. I could see Oscar coming to the wrong conclusion about why and that affecting his reaction to Arthur offering to cut the insect out.

DuckDuckDuck

Whether the insect burrowing in Oscar is good or bad, it comes done to this: unintentionally or not, John has not been accurate. He's either accidentally or purposely missing big stuff. Trusting his perception in order to cut something out of someone or giving him control of a knife is probably not smart even if it needed to be done. Probably wisest to trust Oscar to handle whatever's going on and hope for the best.

Erik

LISTEN to Oscar — as he pleads with us NOT to blindly "dig it out" with a KNIFE. Really picture what the act of BLINDLY "digging something out" of the rippling, writhing, flesh of an unsedated person entails. Yes, DIGGING. Like an ice cream sundae. BLINDLY. Imagine your palm straining against the resistance in the knife handle as we carve him like a turkey.

Dipity

DIG IT OUT. Let's not overthink our way into letting oscar die just because we don't want to hurt him. Sometimes you gotta rip a guy's arm open a little so he doesn't die of Bug.

Renee R

Guys. the bug is going to Kill Oscar. I would rather listen to Arthur perform blind surgery than have him stand back and do nothing while Oscar screams and dies of terminal eldritch bug.

Jess

Remember when Arthur got a weird critter under his skin? There was screaming and thrashing and demands to "get it out of me." Here, we have a scream from Oscar and then him quietly begging Arthur not to do "it." There's definitely an insect in the house and something definitely scared or hurt Oscar. But if there really were an insect under Oscar's skin, we'd be getting a lot more screaming from Oscar. He doesnt seem to be focused on the insect at all. He's focused on Arthur. The more I think about it, the less I think Oscar has an insect under his skin at all.

Jeanette

so you'd rather he screams and dies due to blood loss from botched surgery
