I know leaving it seems like the smarter choice at face value but we really do not know how the stone fully works. We know it has to given to someone and when they sleep, scratch will posses the dreamer. Oscar is passed out from shock and I am pretty sure is still capable of dreaming. We put it on him and it won't matter if we make it on the roof or not, scratch will be in control of Oscar and will instantly know we are at his original summoning site. We need to keep the stone and just hope we make it on the roof because the other option will hurt us in the long run

Honestly from a plot perspective it feels like this is what is meant when Oscar said your my purpose. It would be kind of insane for Arthur to take it that way but I think John has a good point.
