We aren’t losing Oscar, please?

GENOCIDE ROUTEEE (undertale reference)

This is such a tough choice… I don’t want Arthur to get stuck with the stone though, it seems like he’s going to crash soon. When he had his adrenaline crash tied to the chair, he didn’t even realize he fell asleep. I love Oscar but I think this needs to be done

deadbits

Arthur needs a break. Pass that stone.

Teakettle

I am 100% convinced of my decision this week, take the stone with us. -Too much chance of there being unintended consequences to leave it with Oscar, such as Oscar being possessed even if it's not on his person. If I was an eldritch entity I would not leave that loophole so I don't see why Scratch would -I want the stone under our control at all times, I want to be able to account for where it is and what is happening with it. That doesn't happen if we leave it. -John wants us to leave it, and John is creeping me the fuck out. John also wanted to leave Oscar behind so I doubt he has his best interest in mind. -John is SERIOUSLY creeping me out and I'm not going along with anything he says when he's like that.

Fisher

I just feel like leaving the stone behind is the best call on every possible outcome. Arthur has no risk of getting Scratched if the stone isn’t on him. This will let John probably focus better because he doesn’t have a damn gun to his temple making him naturally feel pressure to not let Arthur fuck up and get hurt while he climbs a very slippery roof in the dark. Leaving it in the room with Oscar is not equivalent to putting it in his pocket and if we take Scratch’s word literally, he would also not be Scratched. But in the event that he was Scratched anyways, Arthur would be better equipped to help him than Oscar - who is trapped in one location unable to follow Arthur out on the roof exit because he has one goddamn arm, and also who doesn’t even know the specifics of how the stone works and therefore may not even know that Arthur was possessed because of the stone - would be equipped to help a Scratched!Arthur. I know general opinion of John might not be the highest right now but I genuinely think that his attempts at manipulation are because he’s just very desperate to get Arthur to listen to him.

Fisher

Also - Leaving the stone WITH Oscar is NOT chosing to put the stone ON Oscar. Listen back to the end of the chapter if you don’t believe me! Arthur vehemently denies John’s suggestion and says he will NOT put the stone on Oscar. After John attempts to smooth talk Arthur into relaxing and giving Oscar the stone, Arthur doesn’t fold and snaps back vehemently that he is not going to give Oscar the stone. He begins to find a way up the roof, insisting they’re not out of options after John argues that he said he’d be willing to give Oscar the stone if they had nothing left. Arthur says there are still options. He starts to try and climb the roof as John protests until John breaks and says what amounts to “Fine, at least leave the stone with Oscar.” BJ also reiterated WITH Oscar. So if that’s what some people are worried about then I don’t think that’s apart of this vote. Arthur’s not going to intentionally plant it on an unconscious Oscar without his consent. (Cont. in reply)

Isi

I don't like leaving the stone with Oscar when Arthur hasn't told him what it actually does. I'm still on the cherish Oscar train and am not ready to risk betrayal yet, plus I have an inadvisable amount of faith in Arthur's sheer stubbornness to turn things around.

Fisher

I think the initial reaction to hearing John revert in such a blatant way to manipulate Arthur was a gut punch that’s turned some people against him outright, especially because he’s threatening Oscar, but I think that if you take a second to consider why he’s doing this now then he doesn’t come off as suspicious, or even dare I say as malicious, as he appears. The way he was willing to compromise and immediately cut the shit when he knew it wasn’t working rather than try to push Arthur down further is telling to me that it isn’t like he truly wants to hurt Oscar either, he just doesn’t want the stone on Arthur. I don’t think he even hates Oscar. John to me reads right now as desperate - and why wouldn’t he be? Arthur promised him he wouldn’t become Scratch’s host, and now won’t make a compromise to ensure that doesn’t happen. I think that the compromise is worth it, and frankly, Arthur OWES it to John at this point.

Fisher

Arthur chosing to keep the stone and thus keep the loaded gun pressed to his temple without recognizing that he’s also holding it to John’s, even after he’s already promised John he would give it to Oscar if it came down to it, would be a massively dick move honestly, and I cant help but think how betrayed that could make John feel. Especially after he’s been consistently being treated like a passenger already with Oscar around - which I think was reasonable for Arthur to do at the time, but now, I think it’s worth considering John’s coming from. John’s also been concerned for Arthur’s mental state if anything happens to Oscar. Bedrock was most likely not more than a week ago, and while I think Arthur has made steps towards progress, John’s not in the wrong for being concerned either. It could easily come across as Arthur being as careless with his life as he was back then, all for the sake of a man he’s only just met - who he might not even be damning at all if he left the stone behind - while refusing to consider the impact that being possessed could have on John. I also strongly suspect the likely outcome if we chose to keep the stone despite John’s attempt to compromise would amount to Arthur being like “no fuck you I’m not going to let you manipulate me again I know you have it out for Oscar but trust me I’ve got this handled” which I think could be not the greatest for team morale at the moment. Despite John’s truly dickish behavior in this chapter I can understand where he’s coming from and I urge voters to consider his side of this: He’s essentially had Arthur promise to him that he would choose to give the stone to Oscar (and in a way, choose John over him) but now in a situation that could easily lead to Arthur getting possessed, he’s in a position where if he chooses to keep it on him, he’s indirectly chosing Oscar over John.

Fisher

To conclude, I feel like in a lot of ways this is the same as the bug vote: one of the options initially comes off as obvious, because we don’t want Oscar to get Scratched so of course we’ll keep the stone on us like we have been so far! Especially because of how John presented the option initially worded as “literally giving the stone to Oscar to ensure he does get possessed,” even though in reality that is explicitly NOT what Arthur will do if he leaves it behind, which he said himself. So the “Take It” option initially appears way more obviously appealing, just like how “Cut Out The Bug” did at first. But but in actuality that was the bad call, it was the gut reaction option based on the very understandable impulse that is “GET THAT FUCKING BUG OUT OF HIS ARM AS FAST AS POSSIBLE” that would’ve fucked Oscar over even worse. Right now I’d say the gut reaction is of course to protect our new friend, but how would the possibility of Arthur getting Scratched protect him? Oscar is unable to leave the barricaded room without help due to the bugs, the only way out is through climbing onto the roof, which he certainly can’t do with one arm. If Arthur becomes possessed then I strongly believed he would be too preoccupied dealing with fighting Scratch in his mind to try and help Oscar. On the other side, if Oscar does end up possessed, Arthur’s better equipped to help him all around. I think it’s genuinely the smartest call to leave the stone behind if we want to help Oscar and could, despite how obvious it seems otherwise, actually be the option that ensures his safety the most.

Brie

This man had been nothing but helpful to Aruthr and got his arm chopped off for it. Please don't possible possess the priest!

Amy

I think we should have left the stone with someone who was dying at the hospital.

Fisher

Don’t think I’m gonna turn the vote around this time lads but I’ll do my damndest: if you care for Oscar’s safety and well-being leaving the stone behind to make sure Arthur doesn’t become possessed and is therefore able to help him escape the Bug House later may be the best call here despite how obvious it seems to keep the stone on Arthur. Ask yourself how John might feel with Arthur not at all considering his position and forsaking not just his life and autonomy but John’s as well if he does become possessed by Scratch especially with one of John’s crucial hang-ups this season being that he doesn’t want to be treated as a passenger with no say in things. Reminisce on the epic highs and lows of the Bug Vote where the option that seemed the least logical (leave it be) ended up actually being the best for Oscar’s safety. Think about how Arthur’s about to climb on to a dilapidated roof that’s already partially caved in in the dark and cold and rain as John points out in this chapter with what sounds like frustration and alarm and think to yourself: will he be able to best help Arthur navigate this and whatever potential dangers arise once he’s up on the roof if he’s also intensely focused on trying to ensure Arthur doesn’t fall with the added pressure of him becoming Scratch’s host if he gets knocked out, or would his stress make his ongoing perception issues even worse to the point where he misses something obvious and gets blindsided, further increasing the danger Arthur is in?

Flamia

Ohhh this might be bad either way, but... I'd say let's keep the stone. John will have to trust us... and I hope it's the right choice.

K.M.

Where is the secret third option to throw the stone into the dark world? 😂

Aebriel

leave the stone! if Arthur gets Scratched™ we won't be able to go back and save Oscar!

Troll Kitty

Leave the stone with Oscar! Oscar isn’t prepared/experienced enough to solve these problems without our help so we need to be conscious and autonomous!!

Troll Kitty

Scratch specifically made you promise to find him a *new* body, not a dying one :P

DuckDuckDuck

Man, I don't know...I guess I'm voting for leaving the stone with Oscar and then just really really hoping we don't actually need the stone on hand to accomplish our task after we leave.

DuckDuckDuck

Also, I'm super pro helping Oscar if we are able, so Arthur giving himself every advantage is important. And, even if Oscar does end up possessed, Arthur and John still could potentially save him by stopping Scratch all together.

Dani Ruggeri

Yeah, we love Oscar (I really do, so badass), but this is a horror story and that character made his part. And what a part. I'm voting to leave the stone, the less of two evils, even though it feels like a betrayal. The risk on the other hand feels too high.

Selselsky

I vote keeping the stone because I don't think Arthur can take killing another person who trusts him.

Horsebone

Hear me out: get Oscar reinfected with those arm worms and THEN ALSO give him the stone, so Scratch is stuck here fighting the worms for control, and can't bother Arthur anymore! A tidy solution!

Aebriel

Getting possessed won't kill him though, someone might argue that it's worse, I suppose, but we might still be able to figure out a way to defeat Scratch, and then be able to save Oscar if he gets possessed

Cosmic.Codex

People out here being rational. While I do love Oscar....... he's been very helpful already and could be more helpful. Think about what could happen if Arthur were possessed, he's the main character. Scratch can't have the maim character

Lambda

Leaving the stone is the best shot we have at keeping Oscar alive. If Arthur beefs it (and we all know he's probably gonna beef it out there), Oscar has NO ONE else who can help him. Even if he gets Scratched, possessed is better than dead, and we are better equipped to help him.

Waffle 427

Idk what to do actually, people say we leave it with Oscar, others say We keep the stone. I’m so confused..

Aebriel

YEET THAT STONE

Aebriel

by which I mean, minimize the risk of Arthur getting possessed by leaving it in the room with Oscar

Lyx Apple

genocide route or eat the stone?

Fisher

Another point to consider in terms of if Oscar ends up Scratched: I legitimately think that Oscar would be a better candidate to actually interact with Scratch than Arthur at this point. Oscar’s read up on the Forgotten Ones, Hypnos, and the Dreamlands. Scratch, very likely a fragment of Hypnos, doesn’t seem aware of its origin or its home plane - the Dreamlands - and while Arthur has physically been there I think Oscar has overall a greater grasp on the system of it all. This might make Scratch more amenable, or at least, it will prepare Oscar in the event he gets Scratched in a way that Arthur wouldn’t be. Oscar relayed a summary of what he’d read about to Arthur but he didn’t share every detail. I think that could majorly help Oscar out in the event he ends up Scratched.

Jeanette

Keep the stone — we already have it. Easy peasy, job well done. Some say leaving the stone with Oscar doesn’t mean he’ll get scratched but.. c’mon now, let’s just keep it 🖤 🪨

Scottie

Yeet that stone!

Aebriel

YEET THE STONE YEET THE STONE

Fisher

It’s up to you! But I think leaving the stone could be the best to keep Oscar physically safe, even if it means he gets Scratched.

Fisher

We won’t be able to investigate at ALL if we get Scratched which essentially slams shut the door on the “find out how to stop Scratch for good” route. If we can manage to investigate and figure that out then if Oscar gets Scratched we’ll be able to help him! Leave the stone behind, it’s the logical option!!!!

Scottie

We all are! This is a tough vote. Vote for what I think would be best!

BeastlyDeath

What will we do if we give the stone to Oscar and while we try to get around on the roof, he posseses Oscar (since being passed out from shock is a form of SLEEPING) and walks out into the woods or wherever he wants to go. It's not like we have a way to find scratch since we couldn't even find him in his current host. I know it's a risk taking it with us, but putting it on a SLEEPING person (Oscar or not) is a sure way to bring scratch to us without even being ready for it. Keep the stone!!!!

K.M.

*ties the poll* EAT! THAT! STONE!

Fisher

Arthur isn’t putting the stone on Oscar, he’s just putting it in the room with him. There’s a chance for that not counting as he wouldn’t be intentionally giving over the stone. But we aren’t GIVING the stone to him. If Arthur ends up falling off the roof - it’s rainy and cold, probably icy, and also dark outside - and getting knocked out, then he gets possessed and he won’t be able to help Oscar at all. Oscar is trapped and unable to escape the barricaded room; he couldn’t climb on the roof to escape because he’s lost an arm. If Scratch ends up possessing him, he doesn’t have anywhere to go! But if Scratch ends up possessing Arthur, then we’d basically be abandoning Oscar!

K8

Scratch asked for a powerful host - there are great reasons in this thread to keep the stone but I'm most worried about Scratch turning up and us suddenly not being his favorite anymore if he doesn't approve of Oscar as a host in his current critical state
