Hello All!

Okay, I see what all the fuss is about with this show. Similar to Buffy the characters are so likeable and all so different from each other. This episode may not have moved a huge area of plot along BUT it did introduce some new leads and more importantly we got to learn more about the individual characters. River seems to be chanting something that will for sure be a warning/clue for what's to come.

Hope you enjoy the reaction folks. Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

Dakara, "Two by two, hands of blue"!! You appear to have completely missed the very ending scene - go back and watch the two Alliance agents (and pay attention to their hands...)

PaulC

Can't say I'd noticed either!

DB

Iirc Fox aired this episode 1st instead of the pilot because that makes sense lol

Ian

Really enjoying watching this show with you dak , I love all the characters but Kaylee is just the best 🥰

Neumann

i feel like a good portion of people miss it on their first watch. i certainly did lol

Ashley

So glad you've started this show Dak. Looking forward to rewatching it along with you to see what you think.

I'm glad you are enjoying this. It feels aged to me a bit, but the humor and relationships of the crew are still so good! I didn't see the Spike similarity with Jayne until you pointed it out and it's so true! He doesn't have many good qualities, especially at the beginning and he's in it for himself, but he gets better. You will get more of his backstory later that explains why he is there and his attitude. There is a lot of subtle stuff that is easy to miss if you are reacting for a recording, so I don't blame you for missing things. But I agree with others that you've missed the ending with the "hands of blue" thing. The dialog is really witty and fast paced, like buffy and angel too and there is a lot that you've missed while asking questions during the explanations or context. I'm not sure if I only noticed all these things because I have rewatched so many times though, so It's hard to be too harsh.

Good analysis of characters. The world building is very good in this series. Contrary to the Buffyverse where the world is pretty much ours with monsters added, the world of Firefly is layered on another reality. It gives this world a gritty texture that feels real. I love it. Also It's easy to miss some good one-liners while reacting. I hope you will have the chance to catch some more of them while editing. Enjoy!

"No promises on the movie". Yeah right. Each episode you grow more and more in love with the show. Since you didn't instantly hate the show, you will have a physical need to watch the movie.

After seeing several reactors complain about "Serenity" being too long of an episode and too slow, I can at least understand why the studio heads decided this based on initial feedback. However it does ruin the girl in a box and "who's the mole" mysteries if you ever show that episode later. This episode is much tighter, and if you watch it with an eye to exposition, you can see all of the characters' relationships being introduced anew.

Good reaction. It's fun to re-watch through the eyes of someone who isn't familiar with the show. It amuses me that the story is loosely based on the American Civil War and makes us side with the Confederates, which most viewers today would fervently deny that they do.

I'm so glad that you're embracing this series so quickly. As you continue viewing you'll see why it means so much to so many people and why it'll always be beloved by us. I always think of this as part Star Wars (1977) and part Starship Troopers (1997) - in fact the battle gear the Feds are wearing is from the latter. As I said in the previous reaction's comment section, it's the best space western I've ever seen. Almost every scene, even going back to the very first shot in the first episode, I had flashbacks and remembered everything. Yes, the actor you recognized at the end with the blue hands is Jeff Ricketts and he played Weatherby in two episodes of Buffy (S4E15-16). Thank you Dak! Another great one!

Julian Welton

When it comes to Mal it's more important to pay attention to the decisions he makes than it is to what he says. Hes certainly rough around the edges though so I'm not surprised it's taking you time to warm up to him. Thanks for the fun reaction and I hope you end up loving the show as much as we do!

AC10

I can see it... I can totally see it... She is already thinking about singing the theme song. 😬

AC10

"Why did I flinch there?" LOL 😆 Same... You are invested. We love it.

AC10

Not just that. They mixed up several episodes. They tried hard to kill this show. But we know the truth. This show was incredible!!!

AC10

SERINITY!!! 1ST MOVIE REACTION!!! LETS GO!!!!!! 😬🥹😭
