Hello All!

Seeing how happy River was to be outside was so heartwarming. Her brother truly loves her and wants to protect her at all costs. I enjoyed seeing how the team reacts to Reavers and the Alliance! You can feel the fear with the Reavers and the hostility/tension with the law. I truly love Kaylee, she's such a little gem. I'm still unsure about Mal guys, it's weird not to have a strong trust/connection with the lead character. Obviously this may change the more I watch.

I’ve rewatched this show a few times over the last 2 decades & while my opinions have certainly matured and become more nuanced, one that hasn’t changed is that this show is incredible. Obviously I don’t want to say much because you’re only 3 eps in and there is too much that is a spoiler, but having watched you react to quite a few things I’m confident your enjoyment of the show will only increase. For me characters and their relationships and dynamics with each other are always the most important part of a show, and man does this cast nail it. You mention having a hard time bonding with Mal. Without spoilers I will say one of the reasons to me that he is interesting as a main character is that he is so incredibly emotionally guarded, which means the actor really has to use different things than usual to try and communicate his inner thoughts to the audience. This show is rich in rewatch potential for many reasons, but noticing subtleties of actors’ choices with full context is one of my favorite things.

I have lost count how many times I've re-watched this show. I wish they could have gotten at least one full season. But I love going back and re-watching the old episodes and the film. These are just some of the best written characters I have seen in a show and the cast do such a fantastic job bringing them to life. Love this series so much.

Mal's character is a complex one. From what I understand, he was designed to be harsh, a 'tough love (well hidden)" kind of guy with some humour so the audience could digest his inflexibility. But Nathan Filion's good nature took over the character, making him lovable for most viewers. You might change your heart about him; it is possbile that you won't change your mind.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

I guess I would just say about Mal is that if we're confused about him at the moment then I suspect we're supposed to be confused about him. We've already seen him with many different attributes, stern and commanding, witty and sarcastic, warm and protective, cold and soldier-like. He definitely takes some getting used to, but we'll get there and it'll be worth it. All my faves picking up Firefly lately and I'm goddamn here for it.

I like the slower episodes because they flesh out the characters and we get to know them better; their personalities, what they do in the off hours, their interpersonal skills, communications, and conflicts. For instance, just like I always forget that the ship is called Serenity and not Firefly (which I mentioned in an earlier reaction comment), I also forgot Jayne is a jerk to basically everyone (not you, Dak, you're always lovely). These are getting uploaded quicker than I thought and that's great. Obviously it's short at 14 episodes (+ Serenity 🙏🏼), so we can get a brand new series fairly soon - was it Fringe? I wish you hadn't teased us with reuploading the Vikings episode. 😭 If I die before being able to see you watch the entire series, I'll haunt you. Well, I wouldn't know how to find you to haunt you, so it'll be just some rando in the neighborhood; the lady down the block is rather rude. I'm coming for ya Dawn. 👻 On season 15 of my Supernatural rewatch and am excited to start Buffy again, or maybe Lucifer again. Thank you Dakara, I had a fun time with this one, as usual.
