Hello All!

Fav episode so far this one for me. IDK why exactly, I just found it flowed well, with a decent pace and brought the crew closer together. 'The girl is a Witch'...'Yeah, but she's our Witch'!! I loved it so much. Great to learn more about Simon and River too, I'm not a fan of their Dad at the moment, I gotta say.

Massive thanks to AC10 for the Funkos! Utter legend, Zoe and Kaylee now banked in the collection.

Hope you enjoy the reaction folks. Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

Mal made a 100% correct tactical decision: a mortally wounded person is higher priority than kidnapped... Sort him out first, then go back... And when River tells Simon (after they are kidnapped) "it's all right, daddy will come and take us away", she is NOT talking about their father - they now have a new daddy, and River understands this!

Really good episode, river is such an interesting character loony tunes one second and lovely and balanced the next but nevermind that You Watched Clarksons farm 🥳 such a fantastic show I love it and especially the way it really shows us how hard being a farmer can be 👌 I digress lol sorry 🙂 always wonderful seeing your lovely smile throughout dak I mean the show is great everyone should be smiling 🫶

Neumann

2 great quotes in this one "what does that make us?" "big damn heroes, sir" and "yeah, but she's our witch" *pumps shotgun* lmao

Denni Caid

Oh hey, it's the "Wait, is that Zac Efron?" episode! I always love this one, especially for the way the character relationships are strengthened. <3

I'm so freekin happy.... WhooHoo!! Can't wait for Thursday's episode... And the one after that... And well you know. 😬

I'm glad you're loving this show. We figured you would, but you never know for sure. There was a total uproar in the fandom when the show was cancelled so suddenly. People were totally caught off guard. People were seriously trying to get it saved, but The Powers That Be just weren't interested. People are still pissed about it to this day. The show's viewers had fallen in love with it very quickly.

It is super useful to have some Tam's back story to understand Simon better. And to see the contrast between Mr. Tam and Mal as "father figure" is jarring. I think not only shephard Book can find a home on Serenity. (If Simon learns is lesson and stop speaking ill of the ship!)

Eric Hunter

I don't think the Tam's sold River to the Alliance Academy. The Tam's are upper-class members of the Alliance (young River was playing as a platoon of Alliance soldiers in the war with the Independents). Wealth and status are very important to the Tam's (Simon was in line to become a member of the Medical Elite), so I am sure the Academy was presented to them as an elite opportunity (think Merton College, Oxford), and they never imagined that River was being abused because "the Alliance would never do anything like that!"

I like that this episode was somewhat River-centric and the highlight for me was River dancing (no Michael Flatley cracks). It was so fun to watch. Summer Glau is a trained dancer in real life. She played the primary ballerina in Angel S3E13 "Waiting in the Wings". River is my 2nd Firefly crush. Simon willing to die with his sister makes me emotional as I always wanted a sister but it never happened. I loved that Jayne was the first to confront the mob and it felt like a turning point for him, albeit a tiny one. "She's our witch." At the end they had steak dinners so they must have kept a cow. They filmed that scene and then called a lunchbreak. The crew left and the cast actually sat there and ate that dinner. I absolutely agree with you about the bonding of the Serenity crew. You felt a growing sense of familiarity and comraderie. I like it. Thanks Dak, see you tomorrow! p.s. I mentioned in a recent comment that I was almost done with my Supernatural rewatch and I said I might start Buffy again or perhaps Lucifer. After I finished this comment I watched the final three episodes and in S5E18 you were wearing a Hot Tub High School Reboot shirt. Lucifer it is.

Polly

I agree that the Tams initially thought that River was being given a worthwhile opportunity. I think they later did know that she was being mistreated but turned a blind eye because making waves would get them into trouble with the Alliance and spoil Simon's chances of continuing the family's prestige and fortune.

I think that Jewel Staite did such an amazing job in the souvenir shop scene. Not to BY ANY MEANS downplay any of her performance thus far, but I think if you only watched that scene starting with Kaylee and Inara without having watched any Firefly beforehand, you would feel the same amount of empathy (sympathy?) and caring for Kaylee that you do seeing it in order. The writing helps, but damn, her face.
