Inara is a badass with a sword and Mal is bar fight kinda guy, was great to see them working together even if things were a little tense! Kaylee must be protected at all costs! River is a surprising cockney?? This gang is very likeable guys, I wanna watch the next one!

Lolol when you got paranoid for Kaylee! We are so trained as audience members. “There’s a tracking shot following a young woman walking, oh no!!” It’s only funny because it completely makes sense that you had the response, but it really made me chuckle.

Registered Companions are respected, professional, high-class entertainers, artists, performers, and escorts. They have much in common with the Geisha of Japan. So, both Atherton and Mal are wrong to call Inara a wh*re. Being a member of the upper-class, Atherton should know better, but he is an @ss. Mal, being a lower-class rough-neck, has quite probably, never met a Registered Companion before, and reacts to her profession with distain that is exacerbated by the fact that he is attracted to her.

in an earlier episode, inara said she chooses clients based on an "energy they give off" and this entire episode i'm like "inara, your vibe checks are WAY OFF wtf" lmao

Plus he's said to be a regular, and Inara is happy to see him in their video call, so for some reason he's been alright previously but turned into a jerk on this occasion. The whole concept of 'companions' throughout the show is inconsistent, and quite whiffy.

One thing I like about the series is that they didn't make the ship a nice and shiny, super high tech cliche. The cockpit (and other areas) gives me a sort of run down steampunk feel. Slightly cramped, but cozy at the same time. I was hoping that you would spot it, but it was a very quick shot; when Mal and Kaylee entered the ballroom, the camera panned up to the chandelier and the very top ring had elvish script on it - it was the One Ring from TLOTR. Very cool for fans, but hard to catch. Honestly, I didn't learn about it until many years later. I thought Kaylee looked fantastic, even though the dress looked like something Barbie would have worn in the Victorian era. Kaylee has always been my Firefly crush so I was extra salty when that gaggle of women were being rude. I'd like to shake the hand of that older man that put that one girl in her place. Speaking of putting people in their places, Atherton is a smug pig and I'm glad that Mal didn't kill him so he can live with the shame of losing and the knowledge that he can never hire a companion again. Good riddance. I love Crowley's look and mannerism. He looks like an Oliver Twist baddie and would make a great young Fagin. Lastly, I wanted to mention the actor Larry Drake (Sir Warwick Harrow). He was mainly a character actor and I always enjoyed his appearances. Probably the show he is best remembered for is L.A. Law (1987-1994). His portrayal of the mentally disabled character Benny was one of my favorites. He was in 144 episodes. Sadly, he passed away in 2016 at the age of 67. Thank you Dakara, as always.

The fact that when Kaylee goes to her room there happens to not be any background music/vibes, I think is what could have activated your sense that something might be wrong. In a show that used music so beautifully, not having it for a moment COULD be something they would use. Totally understandable.

Everyone gets cross with Mal for snapping at Kaylee while they’re all admiring the dress in the window, but he actually does have a reason. It’s easy to ignore his comments leading up to that because the crew are all ignoring him too, as he stands in the background with two big sacks over his shoulder, but Mal’s part of the script goes as follows: *Crew talks about buying a slinky dress, and Kaylee comments about Inara having ones like it* Mal: “Well, we best be moving.” *Zoe and Kaylee talk about Inara and her nice dresses * Mal: “Come on, these ain’t feathers I’m toting here, you know?” *Kaylee talks about the dress’s ruffles* Mal snaps at her. So yeah, he’s rude and mean for snapping at her, but she was also being pretty rude just ignoring him and his discomfort beforehand!
