Hello All!

Comedy is gold yet again in this one. Loved the Jane Statue and the very obvious teasing by the crew too haha. The message stood out for me within this episode, faith, is in the eye of the beholder. It's important to respect others beliefs and express your thoughts without pushing them on others. Shepard did a great job with River, despite unfortunate hair scare! Kaylee and Simon are adorable but they do seem to clash often.

Massive thanks to AC10 for the Funkos! Utter legend, Zoe and Kaylee now banked in the collection.

Hope you enjoy the reaction folks. Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Speaking of thinking it’s a crime that they show was canceled so soon… After you have completely finished the show and film, you should look up the story of the fan campaigns that went on and the communities and creations that came out of trying to save this show. It’s a very cool story, I think.

MonsieurFlynn

I like that the themesong is finding its way in there for you, despite your initial hesitation, only 6 eps in...

DB

I just love this episode! Hero of Canton is ridiculously catchy tho probably overshadows everything else happening. At least that's immediately what I think of. I just noticed it was written by Ben Edlund too (one of the few SPN writers I actually liked). I used to have a t-shirt with mudder's milk logo and you know when you're wearing fandom merch and hoping you'll bump into someone who's in on the joke? Yeah, never happened to me lol

When Simon said he wouldn't do that with Kaylee, I think he meant that he wouldn't take advantage of her in an intoxicated state, but it came out wrong because he's just not smooth at all

AC10

Aww... We get an extra long outro too!! Had a lot of fun watching. Thanks. 😬

PlaidGriffin

Woo-Hoo! I made the cut! Thanks for including my comment in the outro. Depending on the day and my mood, Jaynestown or the next episode or the one after that or Our Mrs Reynolds, or any of the last 5 episodes is my favorite! Ooh, or the pilot, or Safe, or the Train Job, or Bushwhacked or Shindig!

PlaidGriffin

Great reaction once again. It shows how into this show you are that each outro gets longer and longer. You’re already trying to hold onto this tragically shortened show as much as you can.

Please reblog this if you know someone who has been eaten by Reavers and is now the hood ornament of a Reaver ship. About 85% of people will not reblog this because they have no idea what a Reaver is; about 10% will start speaking Chinese, or say something profound like, "I swear by my pretty floral bonnet, I will end you", and about 5% will start singing "The Hero of Canton". JAYNE!!!! THE MAN THEY CALL JAYNE! HE ROBBED FROM THE RICH AND HE GAVE TO THE POOR!

Robert

It was a great show at the time. UPN(I think that's wat it was then)seemed to deliberately tank it. The whole series was character driven. They were real people, very deep and complex. Each episode was written to reveal just a little more of them. Jayne, for instance, is seen as a thug or brute, but episodes like this one show that he does care, very deeply. Simon is a bit of a study. He doesn't think much of Jayne, but was willing to risk dying to protect him. Inara being contacted to "service" the young man was very well done. Culturally that sort of thing was done for hundreds of years as a rite of passage, or a reward.

Dee Aitch

"This is not my favorite episode. However, let's talk about it for 30 minutes."

Dee Aitch

FOX, a major network by this time.

Robert

Thanks Dee. I think the network went through 3 or 4 changes before it landed on that one.

Polly

That was a good discussion. I've always seen it as a fun episode and never noticed the parallel between the Shepherd explaining faith to River and the faith the Mudders have in their version of Jayne. I do love the comedy though - the bit of banter between Jayne and Zoe, and River being terrified of Shepherd's hair: "The snow on the roof is too heavy. The ceiling will cave in. His brains are in terrible danger!"

Polly

I wonder if there is a similar campaign for The Nevers? It is another good Whedon show that has been treated with disrespect by its owners.

AC10

Never thought of it that way. Still don't. I love the idea. 1st I've heard this said. I still think he reverted to his high class upbringing and meant it like it sounded. You may be right though.

AC10

I LOVE how they obviously took time to make the Hero of Canton song a good song. That's why this show is so good. The makers themselves actually loved it. And went above and beyond to make it as good as they could. Happy workers make a great product.

AC10

I feel like she saw me pointing it out day one as a personal challenge to overcome...

Ian

Such a fun episode that song was indeed catchy and reminded me of Stan Ridgeways camouflage 👌 I sang along was waiting for you too also dak next time eh 😀 id definitely have a few beers with the crew 🍻 Mal things are going WELL sling your hook lol . Cheers for the laughs dak

Brian Dworak

A great episode and I always enjoy watching it; It's one of my favorites for sure. I think the highlight was the singalong in the tavern and the look on Jayne's face - and the others too, of course. The actor that played the singer looked familiar to me too, so I looked him up and was surprised that this was his only acting credit. He obviously looks similar to someone we're both familiar with. Shepherd's hair reminded me of swan wings. Oh, and I was surprised that you didn't react when Stitch Hessian said "idjit". R.I.P. Bobby This is going by quickly, but it's so nostalgic for me and am loving it. I'm also extremely happy that you're enjoying it as well.🥲 Thank you Dak!

Michael Abberton

I always thought that he was scared of Mal's reaction if he was caught "dallying" with Kaylee. Mal was teasing, but I think Simon is very uncomfortable around Mal and doesn't read Mal very well at all.
