Hello All!

This one is tugged on my heart strings. Made me love Mal & Zoe even more. They've clearly been through a lot and made some awesome friendships along the way, it was sad to see this one end the way that it did. I'd also love to learn more about Shepard, I think he's got some great stories.

Hope you enjoy the reaction folks. Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

😍 We so happy!!! And then we remember the 1st end is fast approaching... 😔

DB

It's such a great episode. I still can't believe Fox wouldn't even bother to air it. That last scene was filmed after the cast was told of cancellation and it just adds a very real sadness. It's a funeral for the show. And this isn't my experience so apologies in advance but from what I know "survived the war but unable to survive the real world after" is a sentiment shared by a lot of veterans. Absolutely heartbreaking.

There are several story arcs that do run through the series. There were plans to carry them thru several seasons, so they just dropped little bits here and there. Shepherd Book's backstory, River's thing, Simon and Kaley, Mal and Inara, recurring villains, etc. Having been cancelled mid-season they didn't have the time to string it all together. But yes, each episode is it's own complete story which makes it more like a traditional TV series but with those little nuggets it does make it unique.

Byron Abrahams

The kid's performance as Tracey was immaculate. Goofy sidekick - to villain - to tragic character. We all felt it. No need to be ashamed. Also of note, that segment at the end, with the music, and the snow and the whole cast... they'd found out at that point that the show was cancelled. For the masterful crew behind the scenes, that was their goodbye to a show that had made them all a family.

One of the best things of following you through this journey, is watching how you've come to see Mal the way all us Browncoats do.... He is our Captain. He will always be our Captain.

There is chatter online from some reputable sources that there is a planned reboot of Firefly, with it being the same sort of show, so something to look forward to. Simon is about as smooth as a bag full of rocks. He obviously likes Kaylee, but always trips over himself. (I think that's the right way of saying it.). I was genuinely expecting Simon to come to her rescue when Tracey was holding her as a shield. Jayne showed some real feeling toward the hat his mother made him. He loved it. It was nice to see him that way. Also the way he read the letter, makes a person wonder about his level of education. By the way, in case no one else has mentioned it, you have a pretty great smile.

on the flipside, this episode gave us the best blooper lmao

Re: what you are saying about structure with this show, and how episodes seem so standalone— With Firefly, I almost feel like the characters, their relationships, and their personal arcs ARE the A plot, and elements of the story that would traditionally be treated as A plot on another show are the B plot. This is really different story-telling to what usually get green lit for tv, and I’m sure is one of the metrics the suits didn’t like. But to me, it’s probably one of the show’s greatest strengths because it allows the real focus to be on the characters and gets us to connect with them really intensely really quickly. This is the 12th episode ever of this show, and just look how layered your experiences with the characters have already been!

Great reaction! I knew that when Tracey woke up it would surprise you lol. Also I love your comment: "I hate this stupid show." lol I've watched your reactions for long enough to know the translation: "I love this show!" I crack a smile every time you say it. :) So great. I think that thought you had about not really thinking about the overall arch and just wanting more of the characters is pretty accurate. I think that's the beauty of this show, we just want to seem more of them getting into some pickle and then seeing how they get themselves out. The camaraderie of these characters is, I think one of the main things that made people love this show. They are just so well written, and wonderfully portrayed by the cast. It's just so fantastic! Til next time Dakara, love the reactions and am so happy you're enjoynig the show!

Polly

From what I've read of the writers' plans for Inara it's probably a good thing that the show ended when it did.

Polly

That was a good reaction to a good episode. I agree with you about reboots - I can't think of any that match the original when they keep the same characters with different actors.

Khanach

Yup, 3rd time Jonathan Woodward gets killed in a Whedon show: Buffy, then Wesley and now Mal. Quite the track record...

Ian

Didn't we say you would end up loving Mal 😉 definitely hits the feels this one . Almost at the end now Nooooooooo 😟

Thom Purdy

It's in the background, but the letter Jayne reads from his mother mentions that he sends money home to help with his sick relative, my guess is his sister, so his previous obsession with money is more than banal greed.

PlaidGriffin

We'll discuss that after Dak finishes the series and the movie ;-)

Stephen Paynter

Did you notice the letter that Jayne received from his mother - it short of re-frames his entire character. He is not just money driven, but he has a sick sister that his mother looks after, and he sends all the money he can to support them. It casts a different light on him in my opinion.
