Hello All!

Best ep so far! I loved the introduction of The Observer! They fascinate me and I just knew that they'd be linked to Walter in some way or another but to have it be that he saved Walter & Peter was such a brilliant twist! Not to mention the cliff hanger at the end with Agent Scott rocking up at Liv's place! I can't wait to see how she handles that and to hopefully find out how he got there. It's early days but I am really enjoying this show so far!

Truly hope you enjoy the reaction folks. Have a fab week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

the observer! i'm pretty sure you clocked him last episode, too; you looked confused when the camera briefly panned past him but you never mentioned it. i figure you either forgot in the hubbub of the episode or you figured it was just an odd looking man but you definitely seemed to have noticed him lol that, dak, is an improperly made root beer float; you're supposed to pour the root beer over the vanilla ice cream lol ahh, dry cereal and scotch, a nice balanced dinner

John Noble is a gem. He truly made Walter such a nuanced character that in hands of a lesser performer would already be considered a villain. Because funny quirks aside, we just saw a very unsettling side to his character. He can clearly be ruthless and have no moral objections to certain actions. And I feel like we very quickly forgot that Peter called him abusive in the pilot. I assume Peter is in his early 30. If Walter was locked up for 17 years it means he was absent for Peter's entire adult life. And he just dissed the parent who presumably was present. It's horrendous. That switch from cruel in his words to confused and worried was just so beautifully acted. You cannot hate him when you get this kind of emotions. BTW I love how Peter needed to be kidnapped and tortured to stay. If that were me I'd be halfway across the globe praying never to see any of them again lol So deciphering the glyphs is one game but spot the Observer is another fun one!

Hi Dakara, A great reaction; a brilliant post-episode discussion!

Audra Foxgrove

I am loving hearing your thoughts on the characters, relationships, and cases so far. There is so much that I want to say in response to things you’ve talked about, but don’t want to spoil, so I will restrain myself. You touch on the fact that Olivia is very guarded for a main character. One of the things that I think is interesting about her character is that she’s almost the archetype of the male detective lead in this type of story. “He was having a secret relationship with his hot partner that ha shouldn’t have, but secretly the partner was betraying him! Or were they??? He’s great at his job, but he’s guarded emotionally and has a hard time opening up to people…” You know that archetype? I think it’s so interesting to take that base character type and give it to a female lead. Obviously there’s more going on with her character! There’s backstory and stuff that will be revealed, of course blah blah blah. But as far as story structure and building the character for the audience, I just think it’s really interesting from a writing angle. And from my personal perspective of having seen the entire show, what the actress does with this character and the material she is given is incredible. Can’t wait to see you experience at all.

Ha, I'm old enough to remember when they sold root beer at McDonald's!

This is a great observation, that Olivia is essentially filling the role that a male lead traditionally filled. This description: "He’s great at his job, but he’s guarded emotionally and has a hard time opening up to people…" is a pefect description of the main male character, a sheriff, in the neo-Western show Longmire that I've recently started watching on Netflix, for example. What's an interesting contrast is that Peter is currently filling a more traditionally feminine role in the narrative, since his primary role in the show so far has been to be a caretaker/minder/interpreter for Walter, and to be relevant to the story because of a connection to a male character, rather than for anything specifically about himself. At least so far.

Audra Foxgrove

Very good point about the gender dynamic extending to Peter as well! That is making me have thoughts that I want to say very badly but no! I shall restrain myself— for you Dakara!

Audra Foxgrove

Oh, Dak, also: that was not a great representation of a root beer float. Root beer is indeed a type of soda, as you said, but it is not a cola, like coke or pepsi, and has a very unique and strong flavor, as well as extra fizziness (if you get good root beer! I say in Passive-Aggressive-Texan). The right way to make a root beer float is to take a nice tall glass, put in 2-3 scoops of ice cream (depending on your glass size), and then pour cold root beer over the ice cream. This should be served with a straw and a long handled spoon so that you can sip and spoon to taste the different textures and flavors you get as the ice cream melts and they combine. It is HEAVENLY.

PaulC

Never tried one, but you can do floats with other drinks like lemonade & coke, right?

Audra Foxgrove

Yes! A Coke Float was a popular alternative where I’m from in Texas when I was growing up, but there are also less common ones. Orange soda with vanilla ice cream for a creamsicle. Or you can get REALLY East Texas and have a Dr. Pepper float, lol!

Brian Dworak

The best was when you poured the root beer in and the bubbles started overflowing so you would rotate the glass and suck them up! I haven't had one since I was a kid in the late '70s or early '80s. I guess I'm going to the grocery store tomorrow.

Valcor

I knew when you started this show that you would love it. Especially when it comes to Walter who's one of the best characters ever.

Valcor

A root beer float can also be called an ice cream float or ice cream soda. In Australia we call it a Spyder and it's basically just ice cream and soft drink/soda. I'm sure the UK also has a similar thing just called different.

Valcor

Agreed John Noble is a great actor and i cant imagine anyone else playing Walter, he's also terrific in Sleepy Hollow.

Sara Croughan

I love this particular observer ❤️
