Hello All!

So for those not in my discord, I did have a bit of a 'mare with this recording as my input for my microphone changed and sounded utterly garbage. I have done my best in post to correct the error but believe me it was bad at first and I panicked with it being the finale of season 1!!!! Just my luck. Hopefully it's okay now though...Onto the episode....By FAR my favourite episode to date! Genuinely loved it. The back and forth with Holden and Miller, the many new faces that I was extremely untrustworthy of, to the virus breaking out and taking a hold of Kenzos face! It was wild. Very excited to dive into season 2 now and I'm intrigued to see if I end up shipping Naiomi and Holden or if I back Amos?? It's all going on haha. Thanks for joining me for season 1 guys <3

Much love

Dakara x

Great to hear you're really getting into the show now, I'll be (impatiently) waiting for the next season. This episode didn't really feel like a finale to me, and there's good reasons for that. Like others have commented before, book 1 doesn't end until somewhere in season 2. I don't even consider this the true season finale for that reason. You noticed Miller being more affected by the radiation than Holden. That's indeed because of his weaker belter body. Not only is Holden stronger/healthier because he's an earther, he was also perfectly genetically designed. One of my favorite moments in this episode was Miller getting revenge on Filat Kothari for speargunning Havelok, so random! I'm sure the title sequence was inspired by GoT. I've seen this with other shows as well, Shogun comes to mind. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it. It's been fun watching this again 😀

I have really enjoyed your reactions to Season 1 and am happy that you are going to continue. Great post episode/season discussion. Yes Amos - he does need to be kept an eye on … The saddest thing about Julie Mao's story is that she was devoted to helping the Belters, and then she took the protomolecule to Eros and inadvertently helped to kill all the Belters there.

"Watch that last step, it's a doozie" - nice little Groundhog Day reference from Amos! I'm glad you're enjoying this show and I hope you're ready to hit the ground running in season two!

Can I just remind someone of where this first season of a show started and where it ended... Ok.. it started by explaining this is a human space fairing civilization consisting of 3 main groups... Earth, Mars and the Belt. Here at the end of season 1 we got Mainly the Belt storyline and Little Earth and almost Nothing from Mars.... And now it ends with a super scary biological weapon of war called the Protomolecule.... Omg... So a whole freakin season and we barely saw Earth people and... what... One single episode of Mars people which was a single war ship of Martian Marines in war and... Then sh** hit the fan and literally all of them died and only our Rocinante crew survives... So logically we have basically All of the Martian peoples storyline still to look forward to and A Lot more of Earth people and probably more of the Belt even though they have been the clear main focus of all of season 1... Humm... What else... Oh Yeah... The Freekin Protomolecule!!!!! Omfg there is so So SO Much more story here we are literally just scratching the surface.... Based entirely on what they have shared so far... In just the first season... If you can't tell... I'm SUPER Excited for season 2.... 😬

AC10

I was going to address the Holden/Miller reaction situation but you did it already. I agree.. Holden being an Earth human in itself makes his body much stronger. Not just genetics but also growing up in Earth with higher gravity and presumably natural organisms and germs because of natural open air and water and land that doesn't exist in a closed loop space station with only recycled air and water and no land... and he is younger and probably drinks less... Many reasons contributing to his body be way more resilient to sickness. Imo. Yet another small detail in the writing that shows Realism in this show I feel like a lot of shows just don't make the effort to try and accomplish.

My favourite part of the episode came just before yours, where Miller goes in, full on Belter, stoking the flames and further inciting the small crowd. Lol. That was really funny.

PongPong31

One of the strongest qualities of The Expanse, is how it writes and presents it's characters. Chrisjen is breathtaking, in all senses of the word. Amos is an enigma. Naomi is heart, with all it's remarkable chambers. I mean I could go on, but you get what I mean. Even if the actual plot wasn't so incredible or the genre wasn't your cup of tea, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who is this deep into the show, who wouldn't wanna continue, if only, to follow and see what becomes of all these wonderful and extremely captivating people, and the stories they still have to tell. Great great reaction! You're doing great. Season 2, here we gooo!

PongPong31

You're not alone bud. These reactions are everything. I'm not sure how I'm going to take to Dak experiencing the awesomeness that are the following seasons.

Neumann

the entire first section of the episode is basically miller: *dying like an asshole* holden: die quieter! miller: *dying like an asshole but quieter* lmao btw the guy miller called to the elevator before killing him was the guy who harpooned his partner. it's been a long time since they talked about that so it's very easy to miss chrisjen is such an interesting character. she's set up as this ruthless, slightly underhanded diplomatic elite with preconceived biases and while she is those things, she also isn't so set in her biases that she's blind to suspicious behavior and patterns around her, or unable to see that a suspect who would be easy to cast blame on is, in fact, innocent. in that way, her ruthless, underhanded nature can be used for ill (like with the belter she tortured and with frank) or for good (like with holden, fred johnson, and the corruption around her.) she knows how to play the people around her but i love how we the viewers have gotten to know her enough to recognize more of how she's really feeling (and obvious kudos to the actress for pulling it all off)

Robert

This is a great show. It's clearly character so much more, they are the ones that pull you in. The struggles, and accomplishments feel like they're ours. And there's so much more to learn about the, and what this mystery is.

Kevin

You've mentioned the show's similarities with GoT a couple of times now. Would you be interested to know there is a connection there? The author James S. A. Corey is actually a pen name for two authors: Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. I'm no expert, but there's a lot of information out there on the topic. Seems Ty Franck was an assistant to George R. R. Martin and they were in a writer's club with him as well. The whole background journey to the making of the show is fascinating. Glad you are enjoying the show as much as the rest of us. Fully enjoying your perspectives as well.

I await season 5 (my favorite season). Though, the show is crazy consistent in the top notch quality.

Polly

I have only seen the first three seasons, but I now have the rest. Very glad to read that the quality stays consistent.

Ian

Sound seemed fine for me so good job dak 👍

Jason Dokos

Two weeks with no Expanse? 😭

DakaraJayne

I did explain in this video about my plans and schedule, also posted my monthly schedule. Hope to have season 2 episode 1 watched next week

Jason Dokos

I guess I suck at paying attention 😅

I can’t wait for you to fall in love with Murder Snuggles (the fandom name for Amos). He is my favourite male character on this show by far.
