Hello All!

Did Olivia just give Peter the heart eyes? Is this just a drill? No need to get alarmed right??? Man I hope that was a turning point for them! Seeing Peter sick was awful and seeing Walter shake with fear over it all was worse!

Much love

Dakara x

Just wondering this morning if I'd have a Fringe episode to watch today!! 👍👍

DB

I can't watch til much later tonight but omg I love this episode! It's such a standalone but it's got all of my favourite elements/tropes. It's so shippy (probably not a word lol) and after so many episodes of Peter worrying about Olivia, it's so rewarding to see a reversal <3 Always here for the hurt/comfort.

Dakara, Everything you said about how a network should do their business is spot on - however, we ARE talking about Fox, the network that cancelled Firefly (amongst other things)... Your post-episode discussion - brilliant as always! I could write a short essay, all about ins and outs of how/why/when of episode 2.11, but I do not wish to bore everyone. If there is sufficient interest amongst other commentators, I will do it ...

Gosh this episode packs a bigger and bigger punch every time i rewatch it, it’s just one of those episodes where Fringe just shows you how to do character building in a 20+ episode season like very few could do back then, because the overall plot of the show did not move forward an inch in this one and yet you are glued to the screen and your perspective on the characters (and the relationships between them) changes completely. I cannot state enough how much i love the Polivia scenes in this episode, they’re just so intimate, if that’s the right word for it, it’s just the two of them talking but you can see their relationship building piece by piece and that line from Peter about “the people close to you” is so telling for their dynamic and i loved that Olivia didn’t actually say “well i’ve got you” because it wasn’t needed their looks told us everything we needed to know and this episode in general for Olivia is a huge wake up call in regards to just how much Peter has come to mean to her and the pivotal role that he has in her life, she was absolutely terrified the moment she found out Peter had been exposed in a way that you just don’t see often because even in the most tense situation Olivia is usually the one that manages to keep her cool, but not this time. Other than that Walter just continues to break everyone’s hearts and now even Astrid knows something, the mentions of the secret he is holding are becoming more frequent with each passing episode and at some point it has to come to a boiling point t… Special mention to Broyles that continues to develop in such a fantastic character that just wants to protect everyone he works with.

the cdc scientist that you said looked like the guy from the expanse, he's not, but guess what you HAVE seen him in? that's right, supernatural! lol he was the first iteration of raphael more than just olivia giving peter heart eyes, she only started panicking once peter was infected! lol but real talk, i forgot how much astrid (with walter) shined in this episode. she gets overshadowed so much just because she's not the 2 main leads, she doesn't have a love story, and she's not the wacky larger-than-life scientist so it's always nice to see her take center stage even just a little

The moment where Astrid holds Walter’s shaking hand, takes the vial, and does what needs to be done— I AM WEAK!!! Ugh, everything you said about Olivia and about Peter and about Olivia & Peter— yes!

Love this episode! I've always loved Astrid, even back in the first season when she only got a scene or two, but when she forsook her own safety to stay to help Walter my heart, like many others, broke. Since the beginning the friendship has grown from Walter not even knowing her name, to colleagues, to almost familial where either would be willing to do anything for the other. This is one of the strengths of a strong long form TV show where the writers can take time to show the bonds between the character, something that can't be done in 6/8 episode format we tend to get nowadays.

I love this episode as one of my favorite genres is "base under siege", whether it's TV series', movies, or video games. This concept was fun because it was under siege from within. I got some 28 Days Later franchise vibes too. I was surprised at the mostly absent gross-out-Dakara scenes, but at least we did get a bit of Dakrya. 😉 That last scene between Astrid and Walter - "I can't let Peter die again" - is a helluva cliffhanger and I'm hoping we get a bit more info in the next episode. Then again, we still have 10 episodes left in this season. The actor you recognized that played Agent Hubert is Demore Barnes. He wasn't in The Expanse, but in the same time period that this episode aired he was in three episodes of Supernatural; he played Donnie Freeman / Raphael in S5.E3 "Free to Be You and Me" (2009), S6.E3 "The Third Man" (2010), and S6.E20 "The Man Who Would Be King" (2011). Coincidentally, the actress that played Elaine in this episode and the previous one, Megan Leitch, was in the Supernatural episode S4.E18 "The Monster at the End of This Book" (2009). Great reaction and outro as usual, Dak. I really appreciate you and the content you create and I hope it goes on for a very long time. Thank you so, so much.

aw yess!! one of my favorite standalone episodes! People have said enough already in the other comments but I will just reiterate how big of a polivia episode this is and how bright Astrid shines! This was when I really fell in love with her character Thank you for your amazing reactions Dak! I look forward to these every weekend CANNOT WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK

I just wanted to add a science note about the basis of the episode. When this show was created, we were just beginning to understand behavioral manipulation by pathogens and how common it is in humans. The effects of the rabies virus have been known for thousands of years. Rabies causes hyperactivity and aggression in mammals, increasing the likelihood of biting and transmitting the virus. As Walter mentions, hydrophobia (fear of water) is another symptomatic change, generating anxiety and a physical reaction to water, which makes it hard to swallow liquids. The links between neurochemical changes and pathogens began to be understood in the 1950s and 1960s. By the 1970s, we started to grasp the effect of Toxoplasma on rodents, which removes their fear to ensure propagation to cats. However, it wasn’t until the mid-2000s that we began to understand Toxoplasma’s effects on humans, including increased risk-taking and, in more extreme cases, links to schizophrenia. This discovery helped drive research into behavioral manipulation by various types of organisms. It was only after this show aired that we learned about connections between gut bacteria and cognitive changes, such as cravings and mood alterations. Since then, numerous links have been discovered between pathogens and behavior modification--sometimes even zombification. Fatigue, depression, and specific food preferences have been found to be fairly common results of manipulation or influence by bacteria or viruses in our systems. This show was definitely drawing from the cutting edge of scientific understanding, often being prescient. *The Walking Dead* also tapped into emerging science, as we have since documented parasites that take over hosts--such as ants--turning them into zombies to perform specific tasks for the parasite.

I love that I have found another person that loves this show as much as I do. I have so much love in my heart for these characters, especially Walter, but Peter, Astrid, Olivia, and Boyles are all up there with that love. Love. Such an incredible show and the last time I watched it was when it first came out so it kind of feels like I'm watching it for the first time. Even though there are a lot of things I do remember, there's so much that I don't. And then of course watching it through your eyes and seeing it for the first time is just so exciting for me.
