Hello All!

Well Dakrya is at it again...this show is killing me! I hate that Polivia is having to go through this, neither of them deserve it! Hard episode but a great episode and I also enjoyed the MOTW, they do love to link/draw parallels between the MOTW and their main characters-love it!

Much love

Dakara x

this is why i have such a hard time looking past fauxlivia's crimes. i know some people like her but i just see the wreckage she leaves in her wake. olivia's "i don't wanna wear my clothes anymore, and i don't wanna live in my apartment, and i don't wanna be with you" speech has lived rent free in my head since i first heard it. and that's not even getting into what she did to peter. this episode is so hard to watch to add insult to injury: olivia WAS happier and a bit lighter in the beginning of the episode before peter told her just how far fauxlivia had gone in impersonating her, which means that technically he wasn't even that far off thinking that that's how she would've reacted upon coming back and starting their relationship. ugh

Maybe it's because I've had a spectacularly rough week at work but oh boy did Marionette broke me even more now. I remember being emotional then but I genuinely cried this time around. In general, I don't think Peter not recognising Fauxlivia is the problem per se. I don't think Olivia, who's rational and logical, truly thinks that. I believe it's because he saw differences and not only explained them away but seems to have liked them. I think that's the betrayal: Olivia not knowing for sure if he was happy with Fauxlivia despite her differences or because of them. And this is the relationship she gets after the rollercoaster of the one with John Scott. How can she not have trust issues? How can she not be angry? It does make me sad for Peter too. This is IMO where Fringe has certain shortcomings (and fair enough, it's a product of its time and of a certain mentality). So far I don't think the show has ever admitted he's a victim. Even if we remove the discussion over his consent to intimacy (which we shouldn't but for the sake of this argument), like you said, he has been manipulated for weeks. And for someone who's been lied to his entire life by people he loves that must be soul crushing. But it looks like his guilt keeps him from recognising his own victimhood. It's so messed up.  Just adding to what your viewer mentioned already but the corner of the Internet I was around? Hated Peter. Ngl it was destroying any fun I've had with this show to constantly see him criticised. And i was only a lurker, can't imagine actively participating. A lot of it from what I've gathered then came to 1. acting choices which pffft Anna was called wooden so clearly people know shit and 2. Josh being a teen tv alumni so "the lesser" entertainment (and pls anyone who actually lived through Dawson's Creek era knows he stole the show from Dawson lol). I find myself loving Peter even more upon this rewatch. I don't know if I'm more invested or it's more enjoyable because of how into it you are or maybe my perspective on life has slightly changed in those 15 years. I just really feel for his character. I really liked him then but now I'm thinking i didn't appreciate him enough.

Oh my favourite things about this episode: Peter never hesitating in his decision to tell Olivia the truth and that Astrid and Olivia scene. For some reason it made me cry to see Astrid so lovingly loyal to both of them. That's a kind of friend anyone should have in their life.

I hadn't thought about that, but you're right, she totally was happier, even the first walk from the car to the first crime scene, she was smiling all the time... 💔

I remember after seeing this episode for the first time, the ending scene just made me feel absolutely ill, lol.

I think you said it perfectly yourself: Peter did good in absolutely not making it about himself. But he's a victim too and Olivia just needs to feel it and right now she can't, there's just no room for it with all the hurt and understandably so. My heart breaks for them both

I remember what a gut punch this one was way back when. Though I do applaud the show (and Peter) for immediately - or as immediately as was reasonable - telling Olivia the truth. That's how we know this is a show about something larger that relationship drama, as if it were a soap they would have dragged out the revelation, with Peter only revealing it when cornered somehow. I promise there are no spoilers past this ep, but here's a 2 minute song video called So Cold that's about Olivia's feeling about coming home to a life that no longer feels like her own: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqcdpSS2dEs It's one of a few Fringe ones I saved back in the day. I got really overrun and missed about a month of postings, so since I'm now stuck being a sickhead on the couch, I'm FINALLY catching up again. Hoping you and yours are doing well.

Michele

I'm very slowly working on catching up, so I suspect it's not likely you'll see this message. I need to comment anyway. I am one of those who was frustrated with Peter. Peter is very smart and empathetic. He knew Olivia very well. So, I feel that he should have suspected that it wasn't her. The fact that no one even considered that she could have been switched seemed odd to me. I was frustrated with this whole story line. It felt like the type that writers do too often to add complications to budding relationships. I try not to get jaded about it, but it's hard. Beyond that, it is really good acting. But now, we have something that will keep them apart. Frustrating! How do you get over something like this? Probably with another well used writer's trick. I like it when writers surprise us by not using the typical tropes.

DakaraJayne

Hope you enjoy the catch up and that you're doing well. I got a notification for this comment so I saw don't worry 😄 thanks for sharing your thoughts. You'll see where my mind went when it comes to Peter in these next eps.
