Hello All!

MY HEART! It's just too much! Seeing Peter and Olivia struggling with this loss is killing me!! Walter trying his best to stay strong for everyone but holding onto Etta's perfume to remind him of her - STAAAHP, it hurts. I can definitely see a change in Peter but I'm sure even more so, now he's got this chip in his neck! What were you thinking???

Much love

Dakara x

My goddd talk about like father, like son. Badly processed grief really brings out their destructive tendencies. This is really twisted and dark, and I love it so much! I haven't been this excited for a Peter storyline since he went to the redverse. I've been saying that Fringe was about Walter and Peter's relationship to me but maybe I should amend that to a broader exploration of parental grief. It is fascinating. Thematically S5 has been on point so far. And no, you're not the only emotional one. I'm a super easy crier. This one left me teary several times. I don't mind it though, I find it really cathartic.

I believe Walter was correct and it did work and their operation was crippled for a long time, but when they resumed they opened the new shipping corridor to the same time and place in the past. A delay in the future wouldn't matter. As for Peter's choices this episode it's very much in line with his character as we've seen him before. When challenged he goes to war. In episode 1x04 after realizing there is more going on in the world than he has realized he changed his mind and stayed with Fringe division. In 2x01 when he handed Broyles the shapeshifting device he told him we're going on the offense now. Later in season 2 when he went to Washington to get as far away as he could in the continental states, he learned Newton was after him and he again went on the offense. Maybe someone can identify more instances, but this is his through-line.

I don't know if it was Peter trying to deceive the observer, but what he said about the pupils contracting and dilating, he said it backwards. When confronted with danger, the pupils expand (dilate) rather than contract. This response is part of the body's "fight or flight" mechanism, mediated by the sympathetic nervous system. Danger triggers the sympathetic nervous system, preparing the body to respond swiftly. Part of this process includes adrenaline release, which causes the pupils to dilate. Dilated pupils allow more light into the eye, slowing down the perception of time, allowing for faster responses temporarily enhancing vision and enabling better awareness of potential threats. This is why skydivers free fall for about 45 seconds, yet the feel it was a few minutes. This is also why cats pupils become very large when they are in "attack mode", playing etc, you can barely see their iris in these cases, yet when they are relaxed, their pupils are contracted. There are so many things to come yet in the show...

And like father like daughter. Etta definitely got Liv's looks and Peter's personality! Loved Peter in this season, everything he did was exactly in character, and now him having the observer tech might bring so many advantages, but also a lot of risks.

Dak's back on her gym arc! I approve.

In my opinion, the Peter and Olivia dynamic is so interesting in this season. This story of these two people who love each other so deeply and also are so perfect for each other and yet they also have such different coping mechanisms. Olivia tends to bury stuff, bury her emotions, and more or less sees the bigger picture. Like Olivia in this season is really focused on saving the world and is sort of using that focus to blur everything else out. Anything that would detract from the mission is mostly being thrown to the wayside. That makes that Olivia scene with the home video even sadder because Olivia is trying to cope in a different way and the whole scene is just so devastatingly sad. Peter on the other hand is much more emotional in a way. He can be very stoic but also he has angry side to him especially when someone he loves is hurt. You see that emotionality when Walter shoots Olivia in S4. Walter is all like you need to move aside so that I can save Olivia and Peter is understandably very upset and angry and is just focused on the person he loves. You see that now with Etta as well. When she was just missing, Olivia was focused on saving the world and Peter was focused on finding Etta. And now it's a similar thing as well after Etta's death. In general one coping mechanism is not better than the other. I'm not saying that Peter is making a great decision here but I do feel so much pain and sympathy for him. He lost Etta once and now he's losing her again. Olivia calling Peter, crying, and begging him to come home and Peter is in so much pain that he's not thinking straight. My heart aches for both Peter and Olivia.

Im trying! Its been 2 weeks back going 4 times a week. My mental feels better for it, my body is always tender but in a good way BUT no weightloss yet sadly. I have lost inches though so ill take that 🥰 i still need your training haha

Wooo! Yup. Slow and steady. Putting in the work never betrays. Digits on the scale will become secondary to how you feel and that's ultimately what matters. Everything else will follow. You got this. Keep at it champ!

Yes to all of this and i wholeheartedly agree that it makes their dynamic/arc this season so interesting even though it’s so painful, as weird as it may sound in season 5 i felt closer to Peter and Olivia than ever before in show, this is the season cemented amongst my favourite characters in all of fiction. (alongside Walter) Great analysis!

😮‍💨 This episode is a rough (amazing) watch, i won’t delve too deep into it because i’ve already seen some amazing analysis in the comments but i do want to highlight a couple of scenes. The first one is the Walter and Olivia conversation about grief, “The pain is her legacy to you”, such a great line and the fact that it comes from Walter is just perfection, i love that he is trying to be a father figure to both Peter and Olivia and help them through the grief and not around it, this scene is just gut wrenching, Olivia is truly holding on by a thread but Walter urges her to stop shutting off that part of her and embrace that grief fully because that is the only way to begin to heal, the acting even for Fringe standards is off the charts in this one. The second scene i want to highlight is for sure the RESIST poster reveal, god i love that scene so much because it’s almost like Etta herself is speaking directly to Olivia and it’s so cool how the poster almost seem to appear out of nowhere when in reality they were there the whole time, the Etta poster is probably my favourite image from the show (tied with the white tulip) it just perfectly encapsulates what the show and season 5 specifically is all about. I think i’ll speak about Peter and his journey this season more in today’s episode but his reaction is so perfectly in line with his character and how he handles this type of devastating emotions, he either runs (but he can’t do it in this case) or he lashes out and while i do believe that over the seasons he has grown up a lot this experience has put him back in to that hell and it’s perfectly understandable because Etta meant everything to him, in his mind she represented a second chance for the Bishop/Dunham family and now she is gone…. God that last scene with Olivia begging Peter to come home while he is pretty much letting go of his humanity in order to avenge his daughter is heartbreaking in a million different ways, this two just cannot catch a break ever 😭😭. P.S. Please Dak never worry about being the only one getting emotional, if someone gets to season 5 of Fringe and feels nothing when stuff like this happens to characters that they’ve been following for almost a hundred episodes then they should have stopped watching a long time ago, this season works so well primarily because you’ve come to know/love this characters so deeply.
