Hello All!

Peter nooooo! He's transforming, I'm scared! Walter's nerves about becoming the man he wasn't a fan off was a touching scene. I hope Peter realises how much he helped his Dad to lock in and become a better version of himself, it wasn't just the parts removed from his brain. Nothing is ever simple!

Much love

Dakara, the actor for the child observer is not the same as in season one. Apart from the difficulty of guaranteeing the same guest-actor after all this time, there is also a fact that boys at that age grow/change quickly over 4-5 years. For reasons I won't discuss (spoilers!), they wanted the boy to look the same age...

The fight scene could have easily been spoiled to you by Youtube if their algorithm catches on interest in the keywords "fringe", "Peter", "observer". There's a video titled "Fringe Episode 5.06 Scene - Peter The Observer" and the actor who played that observer actually left a comment in there. Also yes, Windmark did smile there, because he realized what Peter had done to himself. It's subtle enough to believe their emotions are stunted, but also visible enough for us to be creeped out by it. Phenomenal acting by him as well.

God Peter is a mess, i love him, he is my favourite and i understand (partially at least) the choices he is making but man he is descending deeper into hell with each episode and now he has promised Walter that he will be be by his side when he himself doesn’t even know what this chip is doing to him and he keeps lying to Olivia who clearly knows something is not right… oh Peter. I loved every acting choice that Josh did in this episode to show that something is physically happening to Peter, the harder look, his posture, the way he moves his head, all little things that you maybe notice only subconsciously but they do add to make understand a little bit what’s happening to him, glad you picked on it there at end Dak 😉. Look i know that what is happening to Peter is scary and we don’t know what he will become but that hand to hand fight with the observer remains one of the coolest things ever, the way you can see him slowly learning the observer’s pattern and then take control of the situation is just *chef’s kiss* and then he just teleports behind him and snaps his neck, come on how can i not cheer for that, that’s some superhero shit!! Sorry i’ll calm down now 😝. This episode is so cool, the concept of the pocket dimension is so clever and the ways they showed it visually both in terms of cinematography and production design were crazy. The child is back!! And now we have (sort of) confirmed that he was in fact always some form of observer though obviously unlike any other we’ve ever seen, god it’s so great that they brought back something that (almost) every single person watching the show had probably forgotten by this point and it fits so well, it doesn’t feel like a cheap reuse because we knew from the beginning that he had at least some connection to the observer thanks to the final scene in 1x15 where he and September look at each other and now he is somehow a crucial part of the plan, why’s though? I really love the parallel (but opposite) journeys they are having Peter and Olivia go through their grief, where Peter is using it as a fuel for his rage Olivia is trying to understand it not let it drown her and that scene in the beginning where she is trying to reach Peter is so sweet but so freaking sad, them looking at that message from Etta all bundle up together always gets me 🥺. With this episode they have also sort of introduced Walter’s journey this season into grappling with the fact that now that he has is full brain back he feels himself becoming the man he once was and we saw little bits of that man in this episode specifically in the way he treated Cecil with absolutely no regards or care for his well being but then when Peter calmed him down he sort switched back to “our” Walter, it’s going to be an interesting journey for him and i can’t wait for you to watch it. Favourite image of the episode though has to be Windmark with the giant poster (mural?) of Etta behind him almost putting himself in the middle between her and Peter which is very interesting symbolism for what is happening to him.

I've seen that comment, he said that is was a pleasure to be a part of the show (or something like that)

A mismatch that I can forgive...(yes, sometimes my mind goes to weird places, don't hold it against me) The other people leaving comments are amazing and they often include in their comments everything I would have said...and more. So this is all I can contribute today... I did the calculation (out of curiosity, even though it is not relevant) but if 5 days in the pocket dimension is 20 years outside... 20 years x 365.4 days per year = 7,308 days outside for every 5 days inside. Then each day inside the pocket dimension equals 7,308/5= 1,461.6 days outside for every day inside... and 1,461.6 days/24 hours per day= 60.9 days outside for every hours inside. Which means that every minute in the pocket dimension is about 1 day outside (60.9 days outside/60 minutes per hour)=1.015 day outside per minute inside. And 1 second inside for every 24 minutes outside. Since Walter seemed to have been inside about 5 minutes without Peter and Olivia, so technically 5 days went by outside without Walter, yet Peter and Olivia entered the pocket dimension probably about 30 minutes after Walter, which mans Walter shouldn't have been able to experience more than, slightly over, 1 second inside the pocket dimension before Peter and Olivia showed up. And when all 3 of them finally come out, Astrid would have been waiting there for them for a few days (1 day per minute inside) Unless...the time dilation wasn't linear/constant in which case, what I wrote above is irrelevant because we don't have enough information to calculate a correlation.

This show is good at feeling a lot shorter than it actually is

I'm kinda floored by the generational patterns explored in this season. How the way our parents equipped us (or not) to deal with difficult emotions influence who we become. How actions of generations before become our actions. Walter/Walternate is mirrored in Peter and Peter is mirrored in the brief glimpse we had of Etta. Walternate focusing on revenge and isolating himself from Elizabeth vs Peter lying to Olivia and literally allowing his grief to consume who he is. It's interesting to see how terrified Walter is at the thought of losing his emotional side while Peter actively chooses it. I might not care about the Observers and the plan that much but I'm loving everything else!

DB

lol I'm not proud to admit that I thought Peter looked hot in that fight scene. Something about those sharp, precise moves just got to me. Granted not the first time I thought that of Peter...

christian chirico

😂😂 yeah i think finding Peter hot is a pretty common state of mind for a lot of people but yeah he just looked so in control in that scene and you could see he had so much bubbling rage behind his eyes… i get you 😜.

christian chirico

Yeah, totally agree on your analysis, this season is great at showcasing the impact of parenthood in all of its facets and how it shapes both child and parent for the rest of their lives and Peter at this point o is caught in that vicious cycle. I mean to me the plot of each season including 5 was always just a setting created to explore the characters and the relationship between them (like the best shows do), the plot never came before character exploration at any point in the show. I personally found the mysterious aspect of the observers their strongest suit in earlier seasons so i was a little bit afraid when i realized that they were goin to explore them so in depth in this season because you never know what can happen when you pull the curtain on such obscure figures but man the stuff they delve into with them this season are pretty captivating and a very interesting reflection of our modern society today much more so even than when this season aired in 2012/2013 because now they don’t really feel like a distant possibility for us but a scary probability.
