Hello All!   holy emotional rollercoaster master piece of an episode!! Just forewarning you guys, I'm a MESS in this episode. The scenes with Naomi and Filip killed me! The twists shook me and the ending had me emotionally drained! She better be ok!!!! The next episode better not leave me hanging with Holden, not knowing what the hell is going on - my heart wont take that! That's all from me...

I think we were all anxiously awaiting the day you got to this utterly gut wrenchingly phenomenal episode. And you certainly didn't disappoint. Dominique Tipper's performance in this episode (and the entire 5th season for that matter) was nothing short of peak dramatic brilliance. Emmy voters should be ashamed of themselves for leaving her name off of the Nominee list for this materclass of theatrical excellence.

I’ve seen that seen so many times every time it takes my breath away. Naomi appeals to the best in people, Marco appeals to the absolute worst in people. In fact, every single word he says is a manipulation of others. By the way, everything in this episode is scientifically accurate Kyle Hill made a video explaining it all with the cast of the expanse and I do believe. Now that you’ve seen this episode there would not be any spoilers in the explanation of the science of the expanse

The science of all of this show is truly incredible. Even for people that don't usually enjoy science things. I think a lot of viewers would enjoy the rabbit hole of science with this show if they gave it a try. I haven't seen the video you speak of. I'll look it up now. Thanks.

Yeah, when I first saw this, I thought no way she would just blow up like a balloon from the vacuum or instantly freeze, but that’s not how it works and he explains all that stuff in that video. Also cool worlds channel does a video on gravity and one of the things they talk about isspin gravity and some of the effects like when Miller was pouring the alcohol and it was moving that’s the Coriolis effect from baking spin gravity

I just looked. It’s Kyle Hill, but he’s on the channel because science the most accurate science fiction I think was the title. I’ve already forgotten, but the channel is called because science and I think it was called the expanse the most accurate science fiction ever or something like that

Still the most accurate space stuff ever put to screen. According to all the reports and tests I've seen about being exposed to vacuum, everything that happened to Naomi was accurate. So many details. The liquid boiling off her eyes and tongue. The gas being "pulled" out of her blood through her lungs. The sun being white. The sunburn on the side of her facing the sun. Her hyperventilating before hand. Her puffing up around the face after injecting herself with the hyper-oxygenated blood. Blood vessels bursting in her eyes. Every other time you've seen someone get spaced in a series/movie that isn't The Expanse has been completely wrong. Hollywood gets almost everything about space wrong.

After the devastating "52" (S2 E12) that hit like a freight train emotionally here comes "Oyedeng" to do it all again this episode! Don't see to many coming out of "52" or this episode without the tears taking over! Most generally think that Naomi had a breakthrough that there's no way in the end that Filip was going through with his father's plans. Unfortunately Marco has manipulated Filip with the classic tactic of tearing down the victim so they see themselves as nothing, then there's making the victim feel that the abuser is the only salvation, and finally building the victim up (reinforcing that they the abuser are their only hope). I love how this show doesn't do miracle quick turn arounds via one nice conversation. Reminds me of 5x3 where most viewers have been so conditioned by tv/movies that they're shocked that the Marco's plan was allowed to succeed without some last second miracle stopping of the plan. "Oyedeng" is Belter for "Goodbye"

It's probably just me, but is something developing between Bobbi and Alex? We finally get down to the question of where Marcos is getting the money for his "Free Navy", and it's worse than I might have thought. Even though he may have agreed to the price of the protomolecule AND the scientist, I don't see him as the sort to honor that any agreement. The belter ship self destructing rather than being captured was insane! That shows a level of fanatical devotion. I wasn't too worried about Naomi dying in the vacuum of space after I was the hypo. A person can survive about a minute or two before total death. The hypo was probably some kind of hyper oxygenated compound that would keep her alive long enough to reach the other ship.

Dom Tipper was fairly new to Television acting when she joined The Expanse. By Season 5 she is an amazing powerhouse of acting (and Jasai Chase Owens as Filip is pretty remarkable as well). That scene in Filips quarters is astonishingly good and should have won her an Emmy right there. "Walking away is the only choice anyone ever has". Absolutely gut wrenching. The books do an excellent job of building us up to that moment when she makes her escape from the Pella and I was so excited to see how the show would portray that scene! Also the show has taught us that Naomi has excellent "flying " skills when she rescued Lucia in Season 4 in outer space above Ilus. She had to hit the airlock of the Chetzamoka just right if she has a chance of survival. Amazing episode.

I actually don't like this episode. It leaves me emotionally drained, frustrated and angry. I don't want to feel that. But it's a very good episode. That scene in Filips quarters. Both actors are performing their best work possible. And Dakara, no need to apologise for tearing up.

I belive it's the same kind of injection the gave Monica Stuart when they rescued her from that container in an eariler episode.

Marco did (and you see him do it multiple times) with Filip what is a time-honored tactic to get people on your side where you break them down and then, right after, give them some hope to build them up a bit. It's a very quick way to get people to follow you. Militaries do this in their basic training and it's a way to fast-track the indoctrination. They don't have time to, organically, build up peoples' respect in order for them to trust and follow orders immediately and act as a cohesive unit. But, it's interesting that Marco uses it on his son, probably because he doesn't have the patience to deal with anything outside of his glorifying cause to spend time on. Even his own son is a distant second in priority. "I need to get him back on track quickly, so I can move onto more important matters." This tactic has been shown to work on a majority of people, but nothing is 100% and, like you said, it can have the opposite effect on some people where it turns them against you and makes them lose respect in you and whatever cause you're pushing. Sometimes it takes time and wisdom to be able to resist that tactic and Filip is young and still looks up to his parents, even Naomi (which he tries to discount because she's in direct contradiction to the parent who raised him). It's easy to be angry with him, I know I was, but I had to keep telling myself that he's young. I don't know how old he's supposed to be because they don't ever say his age, that I can recall, but I'm pretty sure he's supposed to be mid-teens. He's tall (and people mistake him for an adult), but he's a belter and him being taller and thinner aligns with that. The show doesn't point that out, so I feel many viewers might not have that in mind and think he's closer to being an adult and don't see that he's still following and not standing on his own beliefs because he hasn't figured out his own beliefs yet. If Naomi hadn't have shown up, he wouldn't even be thinking there's even another way to be. Because she's his mother, she has an automatic opening to him to listen to what she has to say, even if he has been angry with her for leaving. It also doesn't hurt that she was an integral part of saving the whole human race, so that gives some extra gravitas. 😁

Good reactors know when to talk and when to let a scene play out and discuss it afterwards. Your reaction to this emotionally charged episode is exactly what it should be, and your outtro was very insightful, as always. I've never disliked Naomi but in earlier seasons she is often the one pushing against what the rest of the crew and the audience want done, or keeping secrets. In this season she really gets the chance to shine and Dominique Tipper aces it.

😮 This is actually weird for me to read. Emotionally draining episodes like this are my favorite type of all. It's the emotion part that pulls me completely out of this world into theirs. Watch TV for an hour and I get to feel like I went on a whole overnight vacation!!! I love it. Thanks for sharing.

I don't know what else to add to everyone's thoughts except agree with you all. 10/10 episode indeed. Oh just a little heads up. You should definitely watch the outro and keep it running, just before the main end credits roll, for the next episode.

In one of the subtle ways the writers show us that Bobbie is STILL one of the most fearless and most amazing characters in all of sci-fi is how after Holden reveals to Alex that Naomi has been kidnapped by Marco, Bobbie doesn't flinch. "I'll set a new course" she says emphatically to Alex. The weapons mission with Avasarala is now on hold so she can help Alex save his family. True friendship. True bad-assery. SHE IS THAT GAL. 🥰
