Wow, I had forgotten your reaction to this episode. Very strong emotions. I don't think you should be critical of showing your emotion, even though it's just a TV show. I think it shows us our capacity for empathy. Which, in my opinion, isn't a bad thing. I'm constantly watching TV, teary-eyed, depending on the circumstance.

R.BGames37

This was the most Emotional episode of Lucifer i think. I hope you are okay Dakara.. Love Raymond.

Chris Mick

Totally heartbreaking episode. Almost impeccable timing by posting this reaction the day before the anniversary where I lost a friend in fairly similar circumstances. There's absolutely nothing wrong with revisiting real life emotions and experiences that fictional characters can stir up. 💔

Siti Dee

Dan has the best character development in this show atleast imo! I didn't like him at first too. But he became one of my top3 fav and this episode just hit me in the guts sigh Hope you're okay now!

Heidi Elizabeth Marcum

Both you and Chloe have taken Lucifer's desire to become God wrong. Lucifer isn't fighting to become God so that he can understand her feelings for him, or because he doesn't know how she feels about him. I believe that Lucifer is fighting for love, because he doesn't believe he is worthy of her love. Lucifer knows that Chloe loves him. She's told him so quite often by this point. And now he believes it, and has ever since she's proven to him that she can accept all of him, including his Devil side by the end of season four. Lucifer just doesn't believe himself to be worthy of her love and feels like he has to be God in order to prove to Chloe that he can be more than he believes himself to be. So he can finally believe he deserves Chloe. Because if he can prove himself worthy enough to become God, than he can finally feel that he is worthy enough to have Chloe love him. I understand that Chloe is upset right now upon losing Dan and because she and Trixie are hurting very deeply right now, but it makes me a bit upset at Chloe that she so misinterprets Lucifer's desire, which ultimately makes him feel so much worse than he already does. About himself, because he now feels that his feelings don't matter, just like he tells Linda in the ending between them. And it's so sad. Heidi

This is the only episode that doesn't have the little theme at the beginning. Now you know why they 'changed' the theme. Out of respect for Dan.
We thought we cried when Charlotte got murdered. This, this was DEVASTATING! I still cry when watching this. There's only one other show that did this to me, but I won't mention it in case others haven't seen it.

Dan has the dubious 'honor' of being killed by two different Gods - exploded by one and outright murdered by the other. It was actually Kevin's wish to be killed off this season, and his idea. Carol Corbett is going to be a regular next season. He reminded me here of Dan, mannerisms and all.

Rob & Tom are good friends. They've sung together if they're appearing at the same Con, Tom has appeared on Kings of Con.

David Strbavy

My eyes were stinging when he died. Then Trixie showed up...then it was game over. What Lucifer whispered: "I'm the Devil. You killed my friend. Behind me is one demon. There are 1000 waiting for you in Hell. Enjoy the rest of your life waiting for that." As for Dan's death, it was necessary. It took Lucifer becoming God as a vanity project to something he HAD to do. Anyone who got through that without tears isn't human.

Shaggit

I think you are right regarding why Lucifer wants to become God. I also can't blame Chloe, however, for thinking the way she does. We have to remember that for hundreds of thousands of years, Lucifer was a narcissistic hedonist. She knows this about him. It's only natural for her to assume his wanting to become God stems from a selfish place and not from the fact he doesn't feel worthy of her love.

Robin

As Heidi has pointed out Lucifer's desire to become god stemmed from a need to feel worthy of Chole's love. The moment, following on from Dan's death, when he tells her this does, as Lucifer had alluded to, hoist him on his own honesty once again. Chloe's anger at Lucifer is, I believe, centred around her frustration that Lucifer doesn't seem to be able to have enough faith in her ability to truly love him for all that he is. Don't feel embarrassed about your emotional out pouring whilst watching one of the most heart-breaking episodes' of any show I've ever watched. I think it was after episode 9 I commented that you'd need to stock up with Kleenex before the end of the season. Lets face it, it is your emotional connection to this and other shows that make watching your reactions so enjoyable. I've watched this episode a few times now and find myself unable to keep a dry eye when Trixie stands before Lucifer pleading with him to tell her that her dad's not dead, because he doesn't lie. You'd need a heart of stone not to react to the excellent portrayal of a heart broken daughter by young Scarlett Estevez. During the fight scene when Lucifer and Maze appear to leave Le Mec alone and you questioned this. I was minded of a fanfic story concerning Le Mec's fate, the story on Ao3 titled:- Impact by butterfly_gARDEN, is well worth a read, caution you'll probably need to keep your box of tissues handy if you read it. The death of Dan was, despite the fact that a major characters death had been flagged prior to 5B's release, quite unexpected. If as you said at the end of your reaction you ploughed on and watched the finale then you've seen what I was expecting from that character death.

Beny

I was waiting for this episode! I know Lucifer got nothing to do with SPN, but it´s too ironic. My headcanon is that Chuck quickly jumped universes and killed Dan, just to fuck things up, like Chuck does.

Chantal Griffin

I definitely don't want you to apologize, or feel embarrassed, or try to hold in your emotional reactions! This episode hits hard, and one of the reasons why I enjoy watching you react is *because* you get as emotionally invested as I am! I think one of the reasons why episodes like this hit so hard is *because* Lucifer is pretty lighthearted most of the time - and when it does go for the heavier stuff, it earns it, and owns it. Dan really earned the send-off he got, although, given that he's in Hell now, I have a feeling his story isn't finished! As for Lucifer wanting to be God, I have to admit, I was a little surprised at your surprise! Chloe, of course, misinterprets what he says - she was upset, trying to find a reason for the terrible thing that just happened, and lashed out at him in her grief, but it's really not about Lucifer not knowing how Chloe feels about *him*. It's about *him* not feeling worthy of *her*. This has been a constant throughout their relationship. Waaaaaay back in season 2, before their first kiss on the beach, Lucifer told her this. He said, "I'm not worth it". It's a testament to how much he still hates himself that even after all they've been through, even knowing that Chloe *does* think he's worthy, he still doesn't. He had himself convinced that only by becoming God would he overcome his own feelings of inadequacy. Another great reaction from you, and I hope you kept those tissues handy for the season finale!

imarynik

Exactly, he still thinks he is not her equal and by becoming God he will be. Which just shows in what high esteem he helds her.

Amye Sabin

How did you know that's what he said to Vincent (aka Chuck)? Was there an interview? I hadn't heard that, but it makes sense with the fear in his demeanor and Lucifer's wanting him to suffer/be tortured.

imarynik

I wonder if exploding Dan maybe had a deeper reason than just petty revenge on God's part.

David Strbavy

I just figured that's what he said. Judging by the reaction. What else could possibly elicit that reaction?

stacia c

Please don't apologize for being emotional! The last half of this episode wrecked me too. Once you have seen 5x16, you might want to look for interviews with Kevin Alejandro. He talks about his input on the decision to kill Dan, and he also tells us whether or not we will see Dan in season 6, so just a warning in case you don't want to be spoiled on that. Thanks for your wonderful reactions, and know that you are not alone at shedding tears over these particular fictional characters. <3

Jon Freezin-Rain

This falls in with a thought I had. Maybe too many 'plot twist' shows over the years but we know where Dan isn't not where he is. (And there is season 6)

Azraelov

don't apologise for crying, I too burst into tears the first time I saw this. I still do tear up every single time I watch it <3

Jenny Lee Villanueva

Agreed. He's basically showing his insecurities. I've been 10 years with my husband and in some instances when I'm low, I too feel like I dont deserve him, even though I know he loves me very much, so I can understand where Lucifer is coming from.

David Strbavy

This episode is in dire need of awards. Lots of them.

Donald Mellen

Beware, Lucifer spoilers are very possible on that page.

Bridget b

Never apologize for crying!! I'm pretty sure 98% of people watching this episode cried. I was sobbing during this ep and had to stop the ep and take a break when they got to the hospital scene. Even though these characters are fictional we have spent so much time with them so when we lose one of them it can be really sad and defiantly bring up feelings from real life experience's. Even though it was heartbreaking it was a good episode though I'm pretty sure I will be skipping it when re-watching lol, I am super excited for the finale as it is one of my fav finales on the show!

Liam Harrold

and to think there is one more season left :D who'll die next mwhahaha :D

David Strbavy

Thke article itself seems to be spoiler free (the only spoiler they mention was if you haven't seen the episode...they say Dan died). Just don't scroll down to see the comments (they might have spoilers).

Ashley

What happened to Dan actually made me really mad. I've liked the character since season 1....even when he was doing shady things. I gave him the benefit of the doubt in what he was doing because I liked him lol. I really hope the actor is in season 6. If not, I'll be very disappointed 😔

BiaN

Imagine crying over fictional characters LOL I def didn't cry nope, def didn't NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE 😭

Jef Schnitzler

I knew that nose ring wasn't going to make it through to the end of this episode with what was about to happen

Ashley

Watched your full reaction to the episode and I just want to say, I'm glad I'm not the only one who cried like a baby(cried again watching your reaction)lol. I think what makes you have such intense emotions to these shows is the fact that you have empathy. You can put yourself in the place of the characters and envision how you would feel if something similar happened in your life. Or maybe somethings hit close to home because they remind you of things you've actually experienced. It's perfectly normal so don't feel like a fool lol. This episode pretty much broke me in half TBH.

David Strbavy

Agreed. While it is IMPLIED that Dan is in Hell, it isn't definite until we see him in his Hell Loop. Purgatory, anyone? (It has been mentioned in another show where Lucifer made a brief stop) ;-) Dan's death was necessary to put Lucifer's resolve on the right track. Much like Charlotte's death was necessary for Amenadiel to get his wings back.

Ian Caudillo

My Mom cried as Dan died and I cried when I saw Amenadiel cry.

Susan Zenonian

Dan's death broke me for nearly 48 hours after binging the whole of 5B. And I STILL cry during this episode, even though I've watched it a few times now. (Much like Charlotte's episode and Father Frank.) Which just attests to the fantastic writers, actors, and otehr crew we have on this show.

Jim Greer

Dear Dakara , you should never apologise for showing your emotions . The reason I am here is to watch your honest reactions to this wonderful show . Anybody who didn't shed a tear or two is dead inside . Look forward to watching the S5 final with you.

Callie Stephen

So personal circumstances meant I wasn’t ready to watch this episode with you till now, knowing what happened and how emotional it was. I finally felt strong enough tonight and I just bawled my eyes out with you. We all lost it I think when Dan died. His character had the most amazing arc, especially when you think about where he was in season one. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for a great and honest reaction. You’re actually ahead of me at the moment as I haven’t started season six but I’ll catch up very soon.

DakaraJayne

Was a very heavy and emotional episode. Totally understandable that you’d need some time before watching. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch Callie. I think it’s the first time ever I’m ahead of some of my viewers here on Patreon haha.

David Guin

I grew up with three brothers. Brothers fight and tease and prank and compete. When Lucifer met Dan, he was an unimportant human. Lucifer had no use for him. Over these five years, Lucifer and Dan became brothers.
