Hello All!

NOT A FAN. This one was creepy AF & the MOTW will be staying in my head rent free for awhile...brilliant. I fewl they gave us this episode as a break from the sob fest of the previous one, which I am grateful for but could it not have been something more cute? LUL. We did get some nice scenes linking to the main arc which was nice & we got to know some more history of Buffy's life so that was great too. Bring on the next one though!

Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

This episode freaks me the F out! It rem inds me too much of Freddy Krueger and I can't even look at pictures of Freddie. But it is memorable that's for sure. I couldn't watch it with you but had it on in the back ground so I could hear your reaction.

Todd Bolton

You're the second reactor I've seen who is creeped out for most of the episode and then says it's not a good one. I find that strange. Seems to me the episode was successful, doing exactly what they meant it to do. Not every episode builds the story arcs in just the ways we demand. If they did, and didn't allow a rhythm of hiddenness and disclosure to build, then they wouldn't really work. And, yet, the thing about BtVS is you always get something that moves the characters forward. And Buffy's relation to her cousin's death is one of the most moving things I've seen. May not be one of the best episodes but out of 144 not all of them can be. I'm uncertain why it's not appreciated for doing exactly what it set out to do. But I suppose you just don't like horror.

Whisper_dvm

This one is not a fan fave (I always skip it) so completely understand your afterthoughts there (Yes I watched your intro then skipped to the outro, sorry LOL). It feels like a left over season 1 script that they just rewrote a little to include Angelus. The monster is super creepy though so props to them for finally making a truly scary monster!

Christopher simeon

Thank you dakara for retriggering my memories of this episode.......... I had completely blocked it out because it gave me the worst nightmares after. Fuck the makeup and vfx team for making such a creepy bastard and the eye thing was just spinechilling. I want to talk about xander and the angelus scene. Xander is the most emotionally driven character and this episode we see the better side to this trait. Xander gets a lot of hate so i like to give him props when he does something good. He stayed at the hospital to watch over her and lucky he did because angelus was ready to go after her He showed no fear of angelus despite knowing how easily he could be killed by him and he even threatens him just to protect buffy. Yes he has a crush on buffy but i think he would do that for any of the people he cares about.

Purple Nurple

I actually never found the monster scary like you did. I was grossed out the way it fed on the kids, but I wasn't scared of it. It reminds me a little of the Schtriga from Supernatural in the way it goes after kids and feeds.

Paul Maki

Yes, the security guard was on Sex in the City and many other shows. His name is Willie Garson, and he also recently passed away this past September. RIP

Merkavar

Asking how many of us had nightmares, 5 minutes before the worse part

Merkavar

is it that bad you skip it? Like it isn't great but not so bad I would skip it

Merkavar

And Stargate I believe. A few episodes over a few seasons.

Chas Summers

Just a little tip with this show: If you instantly react to some great line, you'll probably talk over an even better reactionary line. Be patient. Quiet moments will come that work better.

Whisper_dvm

I was currently working when this was released so didn’t have time to watch the full reaction either. But yea, this is probably bottom 10 of the series for me so I do typically skip it.

Abby

This episode always felt off to me. It's such a tone shift. And the vibes are weird. I don't know. It's just strange. And one of my least favorites of the season.

Tim Pierce

Definitely not accurate. Patient: I still feel kinda sick I should stay another day. US hospitals: HAHAHAHAHA get out

Gina St Phillips

Yes, Willie shows up a lot in my favorite shows! He was in Pushing Daisies, and was a main cast member in White Collar, which isn't genre, but is a very good show. Also Monk, Supergirl, Hawaii 5-0, Quantum Leap, and yes, Stargate SG1, plus many other credits. I'm sad he has passed. Stupid cancer.

Gina St Phillips

*Snort* Maybe not as much in the 90's, but that struck me, too. She would have definitely gotten a "Yeah...no," LOL!

Gina St Phillips

Yes, it reminds me of the Schtriga, too, but I think it was a scarier looking monster. The Schtriga looked like Emperor Palpatine, lol. This one reminded me of Freddy Krueger, especially in that scene walking through the basement with his hand almost stroking the wall.

Gina St Phillips

I don't know why people don't like this episode, even though the monster is scary. I thought it was excellent. Buffy has to make herself weaker to fight the monster, that is quite a set-up, plus the flashback and Buffy avenging the death of her cousin and facing her greatest childhood fear while protecting other children and being as vulnerable as a child herself. That is why the monster being particularly nightmare inducing worked so well. The Angel Xander moment was very nice, too. I think I can safely say most Buffy monsters are not this scary, but there are some that I find scarier.

Ed Green

'Tact is just not saying true stuff. I'll pass' is my favourite quote of Cordelia's so far.

Bart Aansorgh

I forgot this episode completely too, but tbh I love it. This is the creepy stuff i like :D. I like the small history peek behind the curtain for buffy with celia. I like little things like that, though ofcourse its generally added for these kind of episodes. That would deffinitely trigger a child to have hospital trauma. It did not give me childhood trauma, thats saved for bees and clowns lol. This is just right up my alley :).

Dave Ford

Yeah, this one gives people nightmares. It's the eyes mostly. Definite nightmare fuel.

x_Rhi_x

Haha great reaction. I love how disgusted you were. "What is it doing...is it...omg!!"

The hospital in this episode is the perfect representation of all the institutions in Sunnydale, they are a joke. The doctor who calls the security and run after Buffy but completely fails to realize that they have just lost all the kids in the paediatric ward. Amazing. The other doctor who was making illegal and unethical experimentations on children. I know that we shouldn't look too much into it because this kind of things are common practice in tv shows to keep the plot simple but ... wow! Xander be on "guard duty", sitting somewhere in the hospital while Buffy is roaming around the building. Maybe he should try to stay near her, otherwise, if something happens, she could be dead even before he manages to figure out where she is. The scene between Angel and Xander. It annoys me seeing him still play the part of the teen desperatly in love with Buffy, that he can't move on and grow as a chararacter. I understand that you can't choose who to fall in love with, and that it can also happen that you fall in love with someone you know will never return your feelings, but he is with Cordelia now. Scenes like this one make me belive hat he's not in love with her, that he sees Cordelia like a second choice, a replacement, someone he settles for just because was convenient. Cordy doesn't deserve it. She went through a lot, she grow as a character and changed a lot her life, not only for him of course, but he undoubtedly played a big part in her choices. If he doesn't love her, fine, but at least he should be honest with her. Despite everything I still think that Cordy is just the right girl, with the right character, for him. I like the episode, the story, the mood and the atmosphere, even if the monster death is a little underwhelming, as a stand alone episode. But, when I see it as part of the series however, I have a big issue with this episode. One cool feature of BTVS is that the characters don't have their memory wiped out after each episode. What they experience, what they do or say carries on in the rest of the series. Here they introduced, quite nicely I would say, the character and the story of Buffy's cousin. They also put quite an effort into highlighting the bond between her and Buffy and the effect her death had on her. Unfortunately after this episode all this is forgotten and, as far as I remember, they will not mention it again for the rest of the show, and this is really not Buffy like.

JoDaNa81

Cool to see that Stanford Blatch was a security guard in Sunnydale, before moving to NYC & becoming a talent agent.
