Hello All!

Buffy, we need you back in Sunnydale love! Great premiere episode BUT I could definitely feel a different vibe with Buffy not being with our group - I didn't care for that feeling. Luckily she returns by the end so my wish came true! My heart still felt heavy with all the drama from S2 finale, the weight of that episode definitely lingered into S3 - as it should of course but ouch, I always want the best for our team guys!! 

I'm still in shock that we are already onto S3!! Bring on the next one!!

I think the vibe very much comes down to the fact that she isn't with the group. It gives this a weird dynamic. You don't have buffy's sarcasting "really?" look at xander when hes being... Xander. And all that kind of stuff. But indeed intentional, because of what happened and her state of mind. I think it was a great choice to do that, but it does feel weird. Regarding the fithing sequences, they've gotten a lot better indeed. And even though I don't know how much of that Sarah Michelle Gellar does herself, or her stunt double. Keep in mind she actually has a black belt in taekwando :). She also was a competetive figure skater at one point, atleast at state level i believe. The awkwardness between Xander and Cordy is brilliant at the beginning, acting so alike and then just fizzling, untill they're not. xD You'll enjoy this season I'm sure, goin on your current thoughts :).

I love when a character is brought back to serve an important purpose. Buffy was running away from who she really is, but the adventure with Lilly brought the real Buffy back.

I'll be honest, I wasn't super high on the first portion of Season 3 back in the fall of 1998. Of course, this was fresh on the heels of Season 2, which at the time I felt was the Best Season of Any TV Show, in Any Genre, from Any Country, in Any Era, Period, Full Stop, the End--and I feel that way to this day. :-) Rewatching the show through reactor vids has softened my dislike of *some* of the early S3 episodes, including this one. (I still think this one is uncharacteristically heavy handed at times.) And to be fair, even in the fall of 1998 I thought the first part of S3 had some bangers. I just found it more hit and miss than I'd found either of the first two seasons to be.

Not sure if you noticed but the scene that starts in the Library with Giles and Willow, then moves onto Willow and Cordy, Willow and Oz, football team guy and finishes with Xander and Cordy was all one single long shot. It was considered very ambitious at the time.

One thing that bothers me about that 'kids on the street' montage is the way some of them are portrayed as just being filthy. Maybe it's a US vs Australia difference, but I was on the streets for a bit in the late 90s/early 2000's. and those with severe mental illness aside the majority of us managed to shower and wash our clothes. I mean sure in order to shower we had to sneak into a University campus to use their showers, and if we couldn't do that then we at least went to a public toilet and had a quick splash when noone was around, and clothes washing was usually done in the same public toilets by hand in the sink with whatever soap was available, but none of the folks on the streets that I got to know were ever filthy dirty and walking around like they hadn't bathed or changed their clothes in months. I think it was that last shred of dignity we were all clinging on to, like sure we slept in abandon buildings, or railway stations, or under bridges, and we had to line up at soup kitchens to get a feed, but goddamnit we weren't going to be dirty and unkempt whilst we were doing that.

The long tracking scene in the school is one of my favorites. A single shot 3 minutes long, 9 actors, 11 interactions, and countless extras. A single mistake and they have to do it all over. Then it cuts to Buffy, trying to eat spaghetti from the can and failing. A portrait of depression.

I'm not crying, you're crying! I'm on Joyce's side in this: I blame Giles. He should have let Buffy tell her mother the truth a lot sooner. Especially after Angel turned. It was irresponsible not to tell her considering how much danger she was in.

Buffy starts a workers' revolution. When she's fighting the guards on the platform and has that hero shot that's in the titles she's holding a hammer and sickle! (OK, technically not a sickle, but it's close enough!)

Huh? In what reality is S3 MORE hit and miss than S1? Or S2 for that matter? Dont get me wrong, Season 2 at its best is some of the best BTVS, and best TV ever, and there are some meh episodes in season 3, but nothing in season 3 hits the lows of Teachers Pet, I Robot You Jane, Reptile Boy, Bad Eggs and Go Fish. Seasons 3 and 5 generally are considered the most solid in terms of overarching story and quality.

Yes! If I found out a grown man had a relationship with my underage daughter that was constantly risking her life, I'd be more than a little suspect about why he didn't want me to know. I honestly don't think Joyce is safer not knowing about Buffy's extracurricular activities. It certainly doesn't make things easier for Buffy. To me it sounds more like a control tactic on behalf of the Council, attempting to keep parents from advocating for their daughters.
