I was poorly here & hurt my mouth so please excuse my human failures & lack of energy -love you all!

Hello All!

What a ride that was! It feels so satisfactory to explore a world where Buffy wasn't in Sunnydale & see what an epic disaster fest it would have been. Buffy is clearly a legend even if she feels like a cursed failure sometimes.

Points to note:

- Willow as a feisty soulless Vampire made me feel things

- Cordelia and her humour is always a winner to me

- Giles figuring shit out no matter what universe he's in - legend!

- Buffy without her friends equals a more Kendra-esque slayer

- Curfews, dress codes & fear are the main ingredients to a Sunnydale without our Buffy Summers & I haaaated it

- I think Cordelia should know now that she's angry and aiming it in the wrong place!

Hope you enjoyed this reaction & thanks for watching guys <3

Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support, you're all amazing!

Much love & stay safe out there!

Dakara x

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Reaction 3X09-1.mp4

"How was the Master able to rise without Buffy?" The harvest. Buffy wasn't there to stop it.

Flora Smith

Jenny’s presumably alive in this reality but as Buffy wasn’t in Sunnydale with Angel, she wouldn’t have been sent to watch them

Purple Nurple

Yes it was the first episode of Buffy with Luke drinking everyone at the Bronze. The season 1 finale was his second attempt in series to escape the Hellmouth.

Dave Ford

Why would she be watching Buffy - she was supposed to watching Angel.

Flora Smith

There was no need for her to get the job at the school to do that if not for his relationship with Buffy. In this reality he’s captured, routinely tortured and in no risk of losing his soul in a moment of perfect happiness so there’s no reason for her to be hanging around.

This episode is so cool. And I freaking love Vampire willow. Allyson is such a good actress, the way she really transforms her character, but still retains some of the willow personality. It's really an interesting take on what would have happened if Buffy hadn't gotten to Sunnydale. Overall not a lot of importance in this episode, a bit of extra depth to the aftermath of what happened in the last one. Which is something this series generally does do. Have an episode with some major story or plot happen, and then have an episode with not as much new plot but deal with the aftermath of the episode before. I quite like that. Just love this show and this episode.;

Bart Aansorgh

I believe she was sent to watch buffy and angel only when they noticed the curse was weakening. So there was no reason for jenny to be there.

For the most part, alternate Sunnydale makes sense, but you have to assume that all signs pointed to Buffy coming. It's been established that the Watchers' Council doesn't do the best job at keeping the "field watchers" in the loop (evidenced by both the recent Gwendolyn Post fiasco and that Giles was not aware that Kendra has been called until she showed up). There are also enough watchers that it's probable that wherever she went, the watchers had someone in place to be assigned. Angel is trickier to explain, but assuming he thought Buffy was coming to Sunnydale, he probably got there first, saw the Master use the Harvest to escape, tried to help and was captured. Jenny probably came to Sunnydale to monitor Angel. My headcannon says she and Giles hooked up, she was killed by the Master's vamps and that's part of why Giles stayed in Sunnydale to fight. There's still some unanswered questions. Why didn't Spike & Dru come to town, or why is Angel still alive if they did? What's up with the mayor and his plans in this reality (not that we're clear on his plans yet)? Still, it's one of the better "alternate reality" episodes of television, IMO. A lot better than most Star Trek alternate reality episodes.

Enjoyed the reaction the episode however kinda meh tbh vamp willow was cool though 🙂

I never really understood the masters plant plan. So the plant basically drains the person of all their blood? How is that any different to a vampire doing it manually? Maybe it was too dark for 90s/00s tv but wouldn't it make sense to drain some blood from 100 people but then let them go back to the cages to heal and regenerate the blood? Like 1 person can give 6L of blood at once, but if you take 1L a week could that carry on for months, years, decades? Getting much more blood? I thought that was the plan but then he just drains the person 100%?

Bud Haven

Giles wasn't Buffy's first watcher. We saw him a bit in Becoming 1. He died before Buffy went to Sunnydale. It could be he never died in this reality.

cruzinbosco

One of my favorite episodes of the series. It's one of those great ones that you can go back and rewatch over and over again, noticing or learning something you hadn't before. Also, no, Nicole Bilderback is not from "She's All That" BUT she is from "Bring It On". W-W-W-Whitney. :)

Michele

I like this episode - seeing how life would be if a key person is never around. But it's a good question about how The Master was able to rise without a slayer to kill. Maybe it was a different slayer. The thing with Xander and Willow bugged me. They were fine with sneaking around while they both were in a relationship, but now that the are free of those relationships they don't want to be with each other. They want their relationships back. That annoys me and I'm not too thrilled with either one right now. Where was this concern before it all imploded? And where's the talk they should be having about this? grrr

madfem

The Master was able to rise in The Harvest (1x02) if Buffy wasn't in Sunnydale

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Kinda like Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered used a spell to take Xander/Buffy to silly extremes to wrap up that love interest, this one does the same for Xander/Willow. We get to see them together as their vampire selves, have some fun moments and at the same time also have a fairly suspenseful drama- and action-packed episode before getting back to day-to-day slayage in OG Sunnydale. A favourite of mine, for sure, and I suspect the fanbase's as well.

Leonard Ledung

I'm surprised Luke is not in this Episode, since Buffy never killed him if the harvest succeeded, after all the actor got like 4 other roles during the shows run, so why not in this episode?

Stargazer1682

I realize this is an older post, trying to catch up. This episode is a prime example of everything I love about this season. Not only is it quality writing (and an important example of the value of a one-off episode), I kind of forgot how early in the season this episode comes up; and is a testament to how much quality they managed to pack in season 3. The pacing, the serial arc, the character development, the secondary characters that come out of all of this (Anya!); and the episodic gems like this one, and the last one. Season 3 is a masterpiece.

DakaraJayne

love love love this show & thanks for taking the time to watch my reaction Stargazer :)
