Hello buffyfans,

Hope you enjoy this new reaction & the pain this episode caused me! My heart ached for a good while after this one too! I just love Willow so much and seeing her in pain broke me! Veruca can DO ONE! She got what she deserved. I'm shook by Oz but I do also respect his decision to leave, he let his animal side take over which was bad but he is also owning his mistake & punishing himself by stepping back. OMG i'm thinking about Buffy cradling Willow while she sobbed again...brb I have something in both my eyes again...

I know this episode is really sad... but my favorite part is when Buffy makes a pun about her puns not being appreciated. "... one lame-ass vamp with no appreciation for my pain-stakingly thought out puns"

I remember listening to the director commentary on the DVDs back in the day and one of them mentioned the first time they saw Alyson cry for a scene, he wanted to rush over and give her a big hug, but Alyson was like “hello, acting” lol.

I legit laughed out loud when you got immediately annoyed from just hearing Veruca singing in the background of the montage

this episode is... i dunno. It breaks your heart. As always, Willow needs to be protected. When she cries, oh boy. Allyson really gets you. I think as far as plot goes this was done really well. Veruca is very dislikable, and they build it up over just enough episodes so it isnt a one shot episode shock. Its a really good episode, but not one of my fav's, but thats mostly because its so sad. Riley gettin some more screen time slowly, and hey, buffy doin well in classes. Spike bein grabbed during is monologue is great. Lots of mystery to go, and cant wait for the next one :).

I'm not as traumatised as most reactors by this episode as am not as invested in the romantic sub- or main plots. But Buffy is still hitting 100% when she said back in I Robot, You Jane that none of them are ever gonna have a happy, normal relationship. Still, 80+ episodes to go. An example of Willow's repeated character flaw - when she's stopped from having what she wants she's tempted to resort to unethical means. Though she normally stops herself she is getting more powerful and we all know what power tends to do. Nice contrast with the unusually chatty Buffy in the opening and her noticing Oz being monosyllabic. Despite that difference they both keep things to themselves when they should be sharing. (Xander has the opposite tendency; which in interesting the writers had Willow turn to him. Also notable that he was exerting his independence against his parents. He's growing up.)

I love how much this episode can still affect me after 20 years. I first watched it on TV and it made me tear up then as well. Both Seth and Alisson do an amazing job of selling the hurt and regret and anger the character feels. It just leaves you gutted because the relationships which are not the center of the show are important to the motivation and growth of the characters are handled with such dignity and respect. The saddest part about it is we know that Willow isn't going to bounce back in an episode. We are going to have to watch her go through this pain like we had to with Buffy in season 2. I love this show and the casting was perfect but man do they know how to dig in the knife sometimes and just twist it painfully.
