Hello cuties,

This episode was MENTAL and I loved it! Seeing Spike kissing Buffy was so weird!!! My eyes were into it, my head - pure confusion haha. Wind beneath my wings will never be heard the same way hahaha. Buffy and Poor Willow though guys, she is feeling the pain & in turn as are we. I felt for her in this, I hope she now knows that she's loved by many & this is a blip that she will overcome. She's also a SUPER powerful witch and I hope she realises this now! Don't mess with Willow!

Have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support, you're all amazing!

Much love & stay safe out there!

Dakara x

Dude...Poor Amy...

Collinson

Can't wait to watch your reaction later I love this episode.

Dave Ford

Seriously, though, can you imagine the scene? "Hi Elizabeth, we'd like you to come back to reprise your role as Amy in Buffy the Vampire Slayer." "Cool! Is it a large story?" "Just one episode really, I'm afraid." "Oh well..." "And it's a non-speaking cameo more than a 'part'. " "Oh." "And you'll be naked." "Huh?" "For two seconds."

denmaroca 2

Oral? Sometimes I wonder what's going on in your mind. Then I watched you watching Buffy and Spike and stopped wondering! 🙂 I wonder how much Elizabeth Anne Allen got paid for her very cameo appearance as human Amy? (Hopefully more than rat Amy!) At least she hasn't been forgotten. A comedy episode so it's masking some character development. Something to think about.

Nicholas Corgan

This is definitely one of those ones we all look forward to reactors watching.

Nicholas Corgan

You may recognize D'Hoffryn's actor looking a bit more human from Angel 1x04 as the guy who falls to pieces.

Neil Silverman

I love this episode. Funny, but also touching with Willow's heartache. No spoilers, but one thing to make note of is Spike's insight early in the episode about Willow hanging on by a thread (I forget his actual words). It's not the first time he's displayed a surprising level of emotional intelligence, and it's part of what makes him a more interesting, and dare I say more human, vampire than most.

JoDaNa81

Definitely this one, and the next episode 😃

I really enjoyed rewatching this one with you. This show does comedy so very well. Giles had me laughing non-stop with his little comments. The dialogue was very sharp in this one. This episode really hits well for me. My biggest concern going into this season (original, first watch) was that they wouldn't transition well from the highschool library to 'grown up life' and specifically that Giles is still very much a big part of their lives; even though neither a librarian or a watcher anymore. All these characters work so well together; and I think Spike and Anya having more prominent roles this season adds a lot of fun. So much good stuff ahead this season. I'm super excited!

Zander " can I be blind too " lol pure brilliance 😂

The episode is amazing, this goes without saying, and it's particularly nice rewatch it with someone doing it for the first time. It's one of those episodes that, from the way it begins, you would never imagine where it will take you. Something I've always found interesting is the symmetry between Willow's and Buffy's arc they go through to overcome their emotional trauma. Clearly the story with Parker is way different from that with Oz but structurally the arc is the same if you think about it. After struggling to process and overcome their pain, grief and insecurity. They find their way out of the woods and they are finally ready to move on at the end of a wild, crazy, funny and cheesy episode, “Beer bad” in the case of Buffy and “Something blue” for Willow. Are there any other parallels between Buffy's and Willow's experiences? I leave it to you to find out and decide. It wouldn't be a surprise though, considering that probably this is the most Buffy-Willow centric season of all. Another way this episode can surprise a first time watcher, at least I was, is revealing the chemistry between Buffy and Spike and, funny enough, not while they are unable to stop kissing each other while under Willow's spell. It's while they're teasing, bickering and threatening each other that you can quite feel the sparks. There is a particular moment, while they are insulting each other, where they start getting closer and closer and I thought “they're going to make out”, I was just waiting for the music to change, like in the scene with Xander and Cordy in season 2. TECHNICAL ADVISE FOR DAK: probably someone already pointed it out, but … just in case... starting with season 4, they started filming in 16:9 but in US the entire series was aired in 4:3. Now, I don't know what version do you have, mine on DVD has the 16:9 version for example, so let me share a “trick” I use when I'm not sure about the correct aspect ratio of a video. Look for a shot with something you know should be in the shape of a circle, the moon is usually best because it's never affected by prospective or camera movement, and try different formats till you get a perfect circle. In this case we are lucky because we have a big nice moon at center of the screen right at the beginning of the titles sequence to use as guide. I can't be sure, but, for what I've seen, I'm afraid you have kinda a mix, some episode are in 4:3 and some others are in 16:9 so … good work?

Darrell Palmer

All 7 seasons were framed for a 4:3 aspect ratio. Seasons 1 and 2 were shot on 16mm film, so 4:3 is the full frame and any widescreen transfer of those seasons will be cutting off heads or feet. The rest of the seasons were shot on 35mm, but framed for 4:3, so any widescreen transfer of those seasons will expose parts of the frame containing light stands, microphones and crew members. Beyond seeing something you weren’t supposed to see or having heads cut off, it will look best at 4:3 because that was how the shots were composed.

Darrell Palmer

In the U.S. all 7 seasons were shot for 4:3, broadcast at 4:3 and released on DVD in 4:3.

Love this episode. I was a huge Spike fan since the moment I saw him in 2x3 and always just shipped him and Buffy imediately so this episode was just a huge treat for me haha. In the past we were called Spuffy shippers, but it seems like the new generation shippers call themselves Bike haha. This was like a fanfic episode for us shippers haha.

Gabe Morales

The banter between Spike and Giles in this episode almost make me want to see a buddy movie starring those two 😂. On a side note, when Willow was drunkenly dancing to All the Small Things, it was perfect timing for me. I'm a hockey fan and my team the Colorado Avalanche just won the Stanley Cup and they play All the Small Things in the arena in the 3rd period of games, so hearing that in the episode now hits different hahaha.

More Buffy and Spike, this episode always makes me laugh and shows how superior a vampire Spike is over Angel. Look at the facts, Spike has killed two Slayers, Angel zero. Point for Spike. Both Spike and Angel have successfully courted Buffy so that is a tie. Except for the fact Angel only managed to seduce Buffy. Spike proposed to Buffy a true act of love. And she said yes. That gives Spike another point and that puts him in the lead over Angel. Just because magic was involved doesn't invalidate seeing Buffy act all lovey while planning a wedding. All joking aside, I really like this episode. I am with you completely, Seeing Willow suffering like that sucks. I know Oz was trying to spare her the pain but come on man, a phone call or a letter letting her know what is going on and that you are doing okay and not dead or in trouble. He left because he loved her, letting her know how it is going would do her a world of good. Or a dear john letter to free her from her torment if you aren't coming back. I do get it, I once broke up with a girl who was a Wicca and she broke in to my place, drugged me and left on the side of MT Hood with no memory of how I got there next to dead deer on an alter. Don't know why, I left the state afterwards to put some distance between us. But I do understand why Oz wouldn't want to risk angering someone as powerful as Willow but it was still the polite thing to do. No spoilers but the next episode is one of my favorite episodes of the entire series. top 5 at least. Keep up the good work.

This episode is comedy gold. The Spike/Buffy thing was played so well, and so wrong. Seeing Willow suffer is hard, cos as we all know. WIllow needs to be protected. I do think that even though the episode is brilliant comedy, it sneakilly hides how powerfull of a witch Willow is, and how much she can do with magic. And how quickly it can go wrong. The Riley/Buffy relationship devellops a little bit further and it goes much slower compared to Buffy's other relationships, which is a good contrast and well done imo. Ohter than that, not too much to add to what you already said. I guess this is a Spell of the week episode? Lookin forward to the next one.

Christopher simeon

One thing I like to note is how this is the another time we see willow turn to magic to solve her problems when she is in a heightened emotion. Remember when she was going to try and make Xander not love her to stop them fooling around without his consent or when she was going to hurt oz. She should definitely learn more self control.

I apologize if I haven't expressed myself clearly, as you can easily guess, English is not my first language. What I meant was that, starting from season 4 the show was filmed in 16:9 but, because it was aired (mainly just in US) in 4:3, both formats can be found as official commercial releases, so you can't just assume by default the correct aspect ratio for the one you own but you have to check it out. If your video files has all the right metadata, VLC will pick the correct aspect ratio for you automatically, otherwise you have to figure it out by yourself using some more empirical methods, as the one I suggested. In our case, for what I've seen in the small PIP that I know it's not ideal, Dak has the 16:9 version of the first eight episodes, and in fact when she forced the 4:3 ratio in episode 5, 7 and 8 the resulting image come out squished and deformed. In this last episode (4x09) instead the aspect ratio is 4:3 but the image looks fine so I assume that it's the 4:3 version. A thing that I noticed is that in this episode the framing of the main title is different so, maybe, it could be an easy to check feature to distinguish the two versions, I've read that Dak was trying to figure out the issues with the aspect ratio, but since I honestly didn't understand the crux of her problems, my fault for sure, I though I'd share my empirical solution hoping it might help. That's all.

That mini sing-along to All the Small Things was one of the highlights of this reaction.

Willow has consistently behaved unethically when acting ethically would prevent her doing what she wanted to do. All the way back to the first story when we found out she'd hacked the Council's computer security.

denmaroca 2

A comedy episode, which usually means the writers are taking the opportunity to slip in unnoticed (when we're busy laughing) some relevant character development. The trick is to spot it!

Hi G.Un - she's aware and it'll be fixed. It's because someone confused her with the aspect ratio as she has the UK 16:9 versions, but she thought she had to watch it in 4:3. She was made aware but had already recorded a few episodes. I think from next episode it should be all fixed. (unless she has a 4:3 version to watch now)
