Hello! In an earlier post I think I might have said I was really excited to experiment with a feature once V80 was done. Well I have dived into it. This week I started by created a coding architecture for this feature which allows me to add lots of nuance to it, which is basically required if it's actually going to work at all. This has been working well I think--especially once I created the debugging system, which... has been put to use. Yes, this is another wacky, zany, out-there feature with an acronym starting with the letter C. But it's not the CC--it's the CS System. (Is that too easy to guess? Maybe.)

Almost immediately I hit the feeling of "This is going to be harder than I thought", even though I had known it was going to be harder than I thought. It's also requiring an extra amount of math skills, which I am not too great at. I still don't know if it's actually going to work out or be scrapped, but it requires about another week to really tell. If it doesn't start looking a lot better by then, I'm going to scrap the idea, and you might never know what this was about. The reason I'm so ready to scrap it is because it doesn't really affect gameplay, so it's not really a super essential addition. (Unless, of course, if it works well--then it'll be essential.)

Besides this, I got a great idea for an ultra-aggressive creature, and I won't explain it further than that.

Ending Breakthrough

I also woke up this morning with an idea for the ending of the game. It came to me as I was waking up and felt like a dream; it was somewhere between an idea suddenly popping into my head out of nowhere and me watching it take place like a movie--a very short, choppy movie that finished in like 5 seconds, showing a key moment of the ending during gameplay.

This idea took place within the larger premise which I had been tentatively moving towards, which means I'm almost certainly going to go with that now. So I basically know what the ending of the game is going to look like now, in a broad sense. This dream was pretty exciting for me, because it mainly answered the question of what the players will do to ultimately bring about the end credits. That has been one of the main unanswered questions that has never really gone anywhere and has always been totally blank. So I'm really happy about that. There's still a lot to think about though.

I think the dream came to me because I had recently watched another couple videos analyzing one my favorite classic horror movies I've never actually watched (yet which I continue to watch long videos about; its plot just fascinates me.) And now if I said what movie it is, it would reveal too much!

Left-over V80 Stuff

Here's a document I forgot to share, which is from when I was trying to figure out where to put the utility slot on the HUD, which was a difficult problem. I was not going to add the utility slot until I figured out a place for it on the HUD. The final place I chose for it is still unfortunately easy to miss (which is why there is a special animation for equipping items into it to draw your eye up to the slot.) But the utility slot being on the top left feels like the most logical place to me, and I was really happy when I got that idea.

This climbing animation for the Feiopar was the hardest, most painful animation to make, and its back left knee rig specifically has some ugly twitching problems that I couldn't fix. But it's gladly not really easy to notice from the side angle!

The Feiopar is an example of how just a little procedural animation can go such a long way. Because its tail waving around really "sells" a lot of its movement as real while in-game, and otherwise it would probably look quite robotic.

Oh damn you've been hit with the Toby Fox dream lmao Looking forward to what you've got cooking up!

camhaha

if we’re getting more consistent updates again i’m gonna give you a big smooch and be very happy

matty-mo

your dedication is inspiring and admirable, i love having this insight on how your mind works

Zeekar

All the best ideas come to you in dreams, excited for future dev blogs

Goncalo Free

Zeekers this game is to good to have a end u can add new moons to explore, new monsters also enside traps, ship upgrades like(cloths, tools, more items to to higher luck or not, upgrade make ship bigger like the game starbound have, put back the item mapper that was scraped etc We need also more tapes telling the backstory of the game

Fred Schmid

Company snowmobile confirmed?!

Jacob Ostler

CC = closed captions CS = closed screams? Maybe we're getting subtitles with our speech including people screaming?

MASTRBAITR

The games not gonna end. When Zeekerss talks about the ending of lethal company, he's talking about it's story's conclusion. After he makes an ending for lethal company he's still going to continue working on the game.

Jay Cene

CC refers to company cruiser, back when that was being teased

Number1Riker

Have you thought about going back and giving some other creatures procedural animations? Specifically Eyeless Dogs? Mostly so their feet actually adapt to the ground

fat motherfrickin toad

Man I hope you make another life changing trailer for the CS like you did with the CC.

Conrad K.

Company Snowmobile, like someone else said? Or maybe Company Shuttle?

CaliberPlex

Company Sex?? THE SEX UPDATE?????

CaliberPlex

Hypothetically yes, but I think he's said previously that he really just wants to be done with it. So honestly he might just make a final farewell update and fix any major bugs when he adds the ending. Or maybe there's more he wants to explore?

jim royale

Company security and it’s an add on to the terminal that’s what immediately crossed my mind

Rhydach Hughes

Cruiser sell? You can now sell all items in the cruiser at once by dumping them onto the counter???

Rhydach Hughes

I hope the ending is an optional thing you can do in any run and not a required stop point; a required ending would ruin high quota runs. Also, I think it would be cool if there were multiple difficulties for the ending if possible and maybe steam achievements for the full release?

Peppermint Butler

Really hope it's something like the Crew Survival System, every update gets deadlier and deadlier but aside from the shotgun and knife, we haven't gotten much for defensive options. The difficulty of the game feels great, though I hope with all the new enemies that run at you so fast, for some more dynamic ways to survive encounters like that. Especially if we're going to be getting harder and deadlier moons in later updates. Keep up the great work!

DebBoi

I would recommend the ending being optional. You can end the game with some cutsceen or whatever you have in mind or continue on and you get a little trophy as a cosmetic for your ship.

company specification systems - trust

LucaDaLegend410

I don't have an exact guess, but my guess for the CS is that it has something to do with selling scrap because it's the one essential thing you have to do every single quota. But even if it doesn't have anything to do with that, I'm sure you will definitely cook!

Peppermint Butler

I'm sure the ending of the game is something you have to progress forwards via doing certain goals, i.e. the drill/battery seen beneath the company. I doubt it'd be something forced because Zeekerss is aware of high quota runs and I bet the infinite progression will remain a thing.

armor

I appreciate the post zeekers, one thing I hope youll look to improve on is replayability, me and my friend group followed your posts for the past year and were very excitedly awaiting your next update, dont get me wrong it was an amazing update however moving on past the first 3 days then shifting to titan artifice etc, it was basically the exact same game, to put it plainly this game is in dire need of more end game content or more reason to KEEP playing, and im sure others feel similarly or at least id like to believe so, im not exactly sure what more end game content would look like to point out the obvious new endgame moons/interiors but that would be a bandaid solution, i think what repo did with upgrades is really amazing, your runs should have more variety to them, possibly a large variety of rotating upgrades in the shop for your character or ship similar to furniture but theyd completely change how you play each run, anyway im not sure but SOMETHING to change the flow run to run. i want the next update to have me keep coming back, not just 3 novelty creatures that u dont see past day 3 (the utility slot was an amazing shift in this direction) i think its important to adapt the game to how people are playing it, not your own vision

Tanks Thangs

Now that V80 is out I can't help but wonder what is next (besides the CS thingy). I do hope though that the later paid moons get some new content but no pressure to Zeekers. Especially considering the fact that most people just stay on a paid moon for all of the three days.

MASTRBAITR

If the C.S. is anything like the company cruiser, then I am really excited for this feature. I only hope that you will continue to add more of these goofy and cool additions into the game, because no matter how many scary monsters, moons, scrap, environments and ambience you have in the game, without the goofy features and items we already have. Lethal company wouldn't be lethal company. So I really hope this feature makes it and that we might get more utility items in this update.

brick battla

Cannot wait to see what eebie-jeebies come to genuinely tear out my spine next! I hope the CS System is something regarding the terminal, I've also thought it'd also be *amazing* to make custom logs and bestiary notes with the terminal. Hopefully get to see something like that, Good luck with the update zeekers !

Cam

im so excited aaaaaah

mrsquid803

company scubagear maybe??? liquidation???

jim royale

C.S system = Cave Snally system. the cave snally is a descendant of the modern earth worm. it is a creature that has evolved to burrow underground and link itself to other cave snallys, sharing bloodflow and nutrience. they communicate using radio signals and their antennae poke of of the ground. i believe this would be an add kn to the terminal, being able to pay for specific moons to have cave snally eggs implanted allowing you to utilize the network from your terminal. this would allow you to use individual snallys as tools in unique ways due to their individual mutations to better assist the colony, such as using “trappers” to ensnare enemys or using “speakers” to transmit your voice.

Jackson

zeekers, what if my friend and I write a movie for lethal company?

Blindriverboy

Is there any chance the Radar booster could get a rework? I know this isn't at all the current priority but i feel as if it really does not have a standout use case at the moment. I saw an old video yesterday with someone using a mod that added helmet cams, similar to the current headcams. In my opinion, this seems like a great idea for the radar booster, making it act as a security camera, with its feed being shown on the other monitor right next to the cameras. Thanks!

iD Studios

I still dream of seeing achievements, it would be great to see them along with the ending of the game

Kane Morgan

A Medkit!! With how deadly the game is (and growing), some way to heal would be appreciated.

Cobalt

I feel like calling them novelty creatures is underselling just how important the creature variety is to creating a lush world in lethal company's setting, and how more creatures to keep track of also makes it so you never really can be on top of what to expect in any given run. I think once the ending as a goal is added to the game then it will do a lot to add more tension to runs, as it appears you may need to gather apparatus and other scrap to power the drill, thus you have to decide when to sell the scrap you need to survive the quota, or when to put it towards the Company Siege haha. I guess one more endgame planet wouldnt hurt though, a unique one like liquidation would be fun, or perhaps a slight rework to the ice moons and a few unique creatures to make them as lush as the forest moons. Oh! Minor suggestion came to my mind right now, maybe the preexisting creatures could have icy variants? Just like a forest giant being a bit more pale and frostbitten could provide some nice flavor. Shrug Im kinda rambling now! :D

Gomo

Cutscene system maybe?

Freezy

When achievements?

Le Penseur

I completely agree with this person. I love Lethal Company. But the lack of updates and content risks killing the game very soon. The competition from Repo and other Lethal-like games with similar mechanics makes level dynamics sometimes difficult. I would advise Seekers to focus on improving Lethal Company's lore and developing it further, or hire a development team to revitalize it. I truly love this game, but the risks are real.
