Nothing says "fuck you" more than putting an inescapable cave right next to the starting point of your video game (I loved it). Back then it felt like they really knew they had a niche-r audience and were totally fine with it. EDIT: Though maybe the whole video game audience was just smaller back in the 2000's and the average gamer had the patience to spend way too much time finding a quest marker?
