edit: Questions are now CLOSED as of 3/15/25 at 12:05pm central time.

Hello everyone, happy end of February. I'm gathering questions for the next PATREON Q&A which will be filmed in about a week, so please post them here. You can ask me about anything at all, from video games, to aviation safety, to hydrology, to personal growth and self-help. Don't hold back.

Remember that any of you who are MEMBERS OF THE BUREAU ($10+) will have your questions answered, guaranteed. If you are not a member of the ruling class, then whether your question gets answered depends entirely on whether or not I have a good answer for it.

Thanks, and have a good day tomorrow.

Squalor

Nate Handy

How many hair clips do you own?

Aaron Fontes

will you ever bring back Minecraft A Human Story

Emily the Trash Captain

Hi Austin! I'm assuming by post them here, you mean here in the comments. Some of my favorite parts of your videos are the parts where you get super metaphysical about modern games. How do you feel about demakes conceptually? i.e., the remaking of a popular game on a lower-powered platform

Malcolm Marks

Any more unemployment videos coming up? Im sure those take a ton of work, but I would love to see you do the towns in Shenmue 1

KJ NE

In 1995 I had a dream that you could play as multi-colored Yoshi's (including, a brown one) in a video game. I told my brothers about it.l, and they thought I was an idiot. Months later Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island released and I was hailed as a prophet. Have you ever had a dream about a video game that had some consequence, prophetic or otherwise?

Ryan Mark

Ever taken a dump but all you have to work with is cheap-ass toilet paper and your thumb accidentally goes through the paper and you stick your thumb up yo ass?

Joe tuna

1: Have you ever played Patapon? 2: Are you playing MH Wilds? It’s full of vibes and neat details

Dat Guy

Is it better to rely on inspiration or willed habit for creative works? Do you have a set schedule for your video creations or work in frenzied, ecstatic bursts?

JP_Media

Do you have any familiarity with the GTA VI Mapping Project and what are your expectations regarding the level of detail for civil engineering and other related systems when the game eventually releases?

Marzipan_

Have you ever thought about making your own video game? If so, what would it be about?

A Dog Wearing Sunglasses

Do you or have you ever considered playing Final Fantasy 14? on top of just being a good game, it has a lot of fantastic candidates for your "odd and unremarkable places" series, but then again I know an MMO is a big time commitment

Ken

Before your recent work trip, did you travel much? Where was the worst trip you’ve taken?

Indica

Mozzarella, or American Cheese brother

thalia

how long do you think the gl;hf podcast will go on, and who's idea was it to start it?

Dillon Welch

this isn’t a question but thank you for supporting trans rights <3

Ellie Quinn

what's your favorite video game soundtrack? (or top 3 if u want)

Noelle

i know you make music, so ive been curious to ask what sort of stuff you listen to in your free time? favourite artists, albums, etc?

Yagito

Do you have any "Toxic Gaming Habits"? Stuff like bad habits with Steam sales/hoarding games, certain playing habits that result in you enjoying certain games less, or just anything you'd like to improve upon or grow out of as a GamerTM? I for one, when watching a Let's Play where the player isn't particularly good at the game, am compelled to purchase the game just to see if I'm any better than the Let's Player lmao. So I was curious if you had anything similar you could think of

Sara Shepherd

Oh man I have so many questions but don't want to ask stuff you might have already answered 🤣

Jellybean The Brave

What made you decide to try for a pilots license? Did you want to become a commercial pilot?

LGCinc

How many of us are there?

Gogger

What are some of your favorite textures, visual and/or tactile?

Gary Rickelman

Mittens. Only for children or for everyone?

mr snrub

Can you do another unemployment stream with memoria? I think it will do better if she really gets into and roleplays as a bureau person like you more.

Saucentric

I just really love your work and I'm happy to be here to support your channel. I'd love to see more skybox/odd unremarkable places videos, but everything you have going on has been super fascinating. I know I posted this on YouTube but I think it's worth posting here, have you considered looking into the Horizon Zero Dawn series? I just really think the fact that it has so many real world correlations could give you a lot of content to work with and I'm honestly just fascinated by what you might think of the landscape and detailing. For instance since the world of HZD is technically Colorado, Wyoming and Utah do the rivers still match what we see in real world today or can we see exactly how events in HZD impacted their evolution? Did the game designers think about it at all?

NYC Pigeon

What's the furthest you've gotten into making a video (script, recording, editing, etc) before dropping it and not releasing it? What was the topic, and why didn't it make it across the finish line?

Vinson Verde

Thank you for the content you create, your poetic view of video games is beautiful. Sorry for the Glaze.. Q: Do you get paid more for your Sponsorship Ad reads in your U-tube videos Since you make them so good? As opposed to the boring Ad reads I have seen in other videos, I skip boring ones and I watch yours. Like is there a pay scale based on value of the advertisement? Yours ads are fun/creative/my favorite part of the video

Maxcrazy

What's the harddest part of your new found youtube fame?

TK2473

Do you think there are any benefits to story telling that are lost when using video games as a medium instead of film/books/theater/etc?

Matthew

What Nintendo character would you want to have with you if you were stuck on a desert island?

Molly McCutcheon

Why haven’t you ever posted any content about fire emblem? (I looked on Patreon and YouTube and didn’t find anything so sorry if I’m wrong) I have heard you talk about it so I know you have played it. I am just curious why that never translated into a video. I’d love to see a fire emblem glitch video haha. Thanks for your great content!

Adafoo

Have you ever tried the game Snake Pass? It’s so unique and flawed and maybe genius. I can’t tell if it’s even fun. But it reminds me of early days of 3d gaming when janky unintuitive controls WERE the game. Digital ball-and-cup catch type challenges So yeah, ever played it?

Eero

Do you sell your music anywhere (like bandcamp)? I want to listen to it but I don't want to sign up for spotify or use their stuff.

TuggingtonNamerson

I've seen lots of content from you about Skyrim and Morrowind, but I've recently been playing Oblivion for the first time and I can't go five minutes before the thought creeps into my mind that I'm shocked you've never talked about it (at least as far as I remember.) In my time playing I've noticed a lot of unremarkable and odd places as well as fascinating quirks with its geography and waterways. and I suppose the question is twofold: What are your feelings on Oblivion and will we ever see any videos on the game either on the main channel or as a Patreon exclusive? Thank you for your incredible videos and the inspiration you've given me to look at games from a point of view that's restored my love for the medium.

Adafoo

David Wise better make an appearance on this list

Tyler Boyd

What are the sunglasses you’re wearing in your Skyrim video when you go to Lander?

DurtyDeeds 69

What's your favorite pizza/topping?

Lastarvek

what program(s) do you use to make music ?

Bigsicko

Does your opinion that video games must have boring parts to be the most impactful extend to other forms of media? For example, would an album that has only 10/10 perfect songs not be a 10/10 overall? Would the artist be better off by intentionally throwing in a few "worse" songs to round it out, so to speak?

Rasha EX

What's your favorite airport, domestic or international?

Brian Vacek

Are there any movies that you wish were video games so that you could explore them more thoroughly and at your leisure?

emmavoid

Been following you since the old Eggbuster days, and I'm really happy for you that more folks are recognizing your skill! As for the question- who are some youtubers you enjoy watching?

FTC

hey chief, love your vids! As far as questions. In your researching about hydrology, have you come across any stuff where you've gone "man, I'd love to actually see that"? I guess, in other words, is there anywhere you'd love to go and see in real life, hydrologically?

Scavenger

Any plans to play Monster Hunter Wilds?

Eliana V

You ever played death stranding/thought of doing a video or two on it? Seems very up your alley.

Spencer

Have you ever played Skies of Arcadia: Legends? It's a turn-based RPG but the aesthetics really seem like your kind of thing.

Snart Scrungus

What's the first game you remember that really pissed you off?

Coreen

For a random question, is there anything you've wanted to talk about/ put into videos that just didn't make the cut, for whatever reasons and what was it? And for a PS, happy mardi gras season from another local celebrant, that loves the recent vibes of your videos.

cosbears

Thoughts on the new Pokemon stuff, if any? How's the aviation training going? (I'm a bit behind on the backlog of Patreon vids so apologies if it's no longer training lol). Which of the Links do you think is most attractive?

Olias Gnat

Have you ever considered physical releases for any of your classic video series?

James Wood

For the Rivers and Powerlines type of videos, have you thought of any other ‘features’ to go over in this style? These two feel pretty specific and similar in the way they both naturally flow so I wasn’t sure if there were other things that also intrigued you along these lines; or else if something a bit different like road networks might also be of interest if the right game works for it.

Hopscotch

Is there a story or reason behind why you started wearing the hair clips?

RaggedyGuy

A Cyberpunk 2077 revisit would probably get you a lot "unremarkable places" and so wouldn't God of War 2018 and GoW Ragnorok. What I am thinking about, however, is have you considered going back and looking at Okami or even just playing it for the first time? While it is cell shaded, it has a lot of interesting set pieces, and you may even be able to get an unemployment video out of it.

Novel

I'm in my mid thirties and I adore your content, from the old to the new. Watching your older content there's a chaotic energy and mood that I believe can only be captured in your twenties and your current stuff feels like something you would make in your thirties once those halcyon days have passed. Is there any video style you made that you are nostalgic for but know you wouldn't be able to capture that right energy?

Utennavn

Regarding aviation safety crossed with your exploration series, how do the different GTA games stack up as far as good runway clearance, good control tower locations and view, good warning demarcations, security, that sort of thing? I feel like it could be a useful platform for general discussion on the topic... probably not in a Q&A video though...

Rick Teeter22

Hey, I have been working on making videos to start a youtube channel of my own, and you are one of the channels that have inspired me most. I'm currently working on a video talking about bridges in video games, and one about the vibes of sequels/prequels, but the more I work on it the more I worry I am going to come off as an "Any Austin Clone" or similar. What should I do about this?

Erin Buckley

Are you planning on releasing more music? 7 songs was a great album

AntiMS

Is there any subject "similar to": * hydrology * meteorology * economics * power grid * wood working * etc That you've wished you could work into a deep-dive analysis of the (un-)realism of a video game but haven't found a good way to make it work as a video?

Luke Holladay

I've been loving the gl;hf podcast and I'm impressed with your (and Mem's) ability to keep a conversation lively and interesting for an hour (or more). Listening to the pod feels like sitting around a table bullshitting with friends and I'm always surprised at how quickly the time passes. Have you always had those conversational skills, or did you actively work to develop them? Any advice for someone who wants to have engaging conversations with friends/partners but often has trouble coming up with questions, topics, etc? Thanks for your earnest and heartfelt approach to videomaking and life in general. -Luke

Talkren

Two questions. 1) Is there a moment in a game/movie/show that made you feel seen in a way you had not expected- like you suddenly understood something about yourself that you hadn't before? 2) Do you think the way we engage with games, meaningfully changes how we process things in real life?

Jenny Two-Times

You mentioned on the podcast that you wouldn’t partake in karaoke, but you sing in your own music. What’s up with that?

Sir Chasm

What game, if any, deserves its negative reputation?

Jake Fee

What games have the capacity to make someone a Better Person? Are there games that can bend a Malleable Young Mind towards Evil?

StratoBuilds

Looking back on Radiation Island, how do you feel about the game now? At the time, you spoke about how playing subjectively 'bad' games can rekindle a taste of what it was like to experience games for the first time as a child, and you lovingly put Radiation Island in that category. Do you still feel the same way? And now that even more time has passed, does Radiation Island evoke similar nostalgia as the games of your childhood? Two-parter: Other than Radiation City, did you try/film playthroughs of any other games in the series?

MYSHIFTKEYISBROKE

How long do you intend to cruelly watch us salivate for the unemployment enumeration of Timber Hearth and unremarkable and odd-ification of Dark Bramble, AUSTIN?

Will Roesner

Do you plan on playing any live shows soon? Have you in the past? What was your live setup like?

DrShemp

Would you ever do commentary for old eggbusters again? Maybe just a partial rewatch of old episodes to give some behind the scenes.

Seth Peacock

Do you keep track of the media you consume? Like a list of music/games/books?

SuperBKDK

Do you find that with the growth of your youtube channel you focus more on video ideas of the game you are playing versus enjoying it how your normally would? On top of that do you think your choice of game is hampered upon what you think might have a good video idea within it?

The R

Do you have advice for starting a "brand" on Youtube? When I made my channel, I didn't have any creative output in mind, so my first videos were just random clips, then music playlists. Now that I have more of a creative vision, I'm thinking of taking Youtube more "seriously", but I'm not sure whether to start a new channel, or work with my current one despite that channel not matching my new creative outlook. I'm leaning towards starting a new channel to "start fresh", but I would like to hear a Youtuber's thoughts on how to plan something like that. i.e. if you could go back in time, what would make for a good "launch" for your channel to give the audience/algorithm a better idea of your creative output? Eggbusters, unemployment reports, maybe something different?

$aturn¥oshi

You playing any games just to play them, and not necessarily to make content for YouTube?

EMTEA64

Two part question: What's your favorite album you've made, and what's your favorite album in general? i've been big on live 24.7 lately

Bigmac

What is the meaning of life?

Andrew Bosak

In your opinion, what is the easiest way to learn video editing? I've been a photographer for many years, but recently I have wanted to start making video as well. My problem is I just don't know where to start with the editing process, as it all seems overwhelming.

Duncan Kelly

If you had a big budget to make a music video for one of your songs, which one would it be? What would the video be like?

Mona M

would you ever do another incidental fish (or other wildlife) video? i was playing banjo tooie and saw some cool incidental fish including an AMMONITE, and i immediately thought of you

Kevin Hilt

What's the last thing that made you laugh really hard?

Nibblefingers

If you could replace the ‘exciting’ gameplay of any game with something more boring or mundane what would you do? I’ve always thought it would be fun to have a BotW spinoff where you’re moving goods around Hyrule to help with the rebuilding efforts.

SourInk

If you could make an animated show with the snap of your fingers, what would if be?

Gannon Trueman

In video "Skybox Appreciation: Sonic the Hedgehog 2" there is a moment at 0:10 that shows Paper Mario 64 and Wave Race 64 skyboxes as examples: https://imgur.com/a/gef0G4b Since there is a Wave Race 64 Skybox video, the side-by-side comparison leads me to believe there is/will be a Paper Mario 64 Skybox video. I combed through all videos on Youtube and Patreon, and found nothing. I did not see any mention of this in Discord either. Compound question: Was this already done and I'm just not seeing it, or are there any plans to make this vid?

Kezia

You've mentioned games like Elden Ring and some MMOs as being good for a video for one of your series, but the barrier to entry means that this happening will take time/won't happen. If you could magically in one second understand one game enough to be able to understand its vibe and make an unremarkable and odd places/woodworking accuracy etc video on, what would it be?

T-Dawg

I mostly just want to thank you for reminding me of the wonder of playing 3D games as a kid. I used to imagine worlds beyond the bounds of the game and would try and find my way into it and would stare at the skyboxes in games just to take in the wonder of the worlds. Questions: 1. The first game I played where I was able to break the boundaries of the game by exploration was Rocket: Robot on Wheels on the N64. Have you ever played this game? 2. What was the first game that you remember breaking the boundaries in intentionally?

Aaron Maass

OH MY GOD ROCKET ROBOT ON WHEELS

pepperono

Hey Austin, I'm relatively new to all your stuff but I love it all. Currently binging your old Radiation Island series. I thought it was cool when I learned that you live in New Orleans, as I am in Baton Rouge. I don't know of many content creators in Louisiana. I know you've been here a while, but how do you like living in Louisiana? Do you feel like a Louisianian by now? What made you move down here?
