This one was loads of fun. You'll see why, but I really enjoyed it!

As a bonus, it was also pretty quick to edit, being only 23 turns long and the action only taking up maybe a dozen turns.

The final turn did get a bit weird though. You can play back the last turn in a game, after the end screen pops up, but the game doesn't play all the sounds- especially engine and background noises. So I had to improvise a bit to get them in- I don't think you can see the joins!

Also with regards to sound, I've used a slightly different voice recording setup for this one. I think the quality is a bit better... the audio definitely needed less editing, which shaves off even more time.

With that out of the way pretty quickly, I've ploughed straight on into the next Unit Guide and, after some deliberation, plumped for the Italian Infantry Battalion out of CMFI. And boy oh boy, it is by a significant margin the worst TOE I've gone through so far. Literally decades behind everyone else. But it provides a really interesting comparision to other infantry battalions by showing off all the things that make them work that we've grown to think as standard.

The script is pretty much done- just needs checking- then we're into the record-cut-footage pipeline.

In other news, the process to switch over to monthly billing instead of per creation billing has kicked off. This shouldn't represent a significant change: I've been reliably releasing one video per week for ages now, so switching to monthly billing means changing from 4x£1 to 1x£4. Nice and simple.

I am planning to slot in tiers on either side of this too, once the change goes through. I definitely want a lower option for people to contribute if £4/month is too much (though whatever limits you might set should still apply) and a slightly higher tier for monthly bonus videos to live. I'll go into all this in more detail once the details are nailed down, but like I said: it shouldn't result in a meaningful change at your end.

So, with CMUG: Italian Infantry Battalions well down the production line, next on the horizon we have more Marines- now with backup from the US Army- and after that more CM Basics, for which I have as yet no idea what to do. Fun times!

For the CM Basics video, there is part II of calling for artillery fire. You did say you were saving the more advanced topics for a second video.

Great video. What I think is the next mission is my favorite in the campaign, and this is definitely the second place. I was way more aggressive pushing the right flank when I played it, so my tanks were able to deal with the Syrian ones pretty easily, but I didn’t even think of your LAR dismounted cutoff, which was great.

I agree, that was fun. Seemed cut and dry until it wasn't. Nothing like a few pucker moments to sweeten the pot, as it were. But yes, AAR to follow. Just had a thought: did that thunder run leave an imprint?

Not impossible the Thunder Run may have altered the old perspective a little...

Thanks very much! The next mission is some kind of Chemical Plant, if that lines up.

Happy to hear about the WWII Italian Infantry guide. Ever since I saw their unusual platoon and squad makeup in CMFI it’s held an odd fascination for me.

Your leaving the AT weapons behind inside the Strykers (not once, but TWICE), reminds me of that iconic scene at the start of Blackhawk Down when one of the U.S. soldiers repeatedly tells the new guy “You’re not going to need that.” He is, of course, proven dead wrong.

Ha! Yeah, I remember that. Don't need NVGs, don't need back plates. Quick 20 minute adventure, in and out, no problem!

Nicholas Shaler

I remember that one. The Syrians refused to surrender until they only had one man left when I played it. No, my favorite one is the one that starts with a Bradley mounted element being ambushed.
