People have been asking about the Italians for ages, so here we are! I was originally going to stick to the company organisation but... well, you'll see. It's a pretty archaic TOE by 1943 standards- looks like the Italians really wanted to fight at the Regimental level- but it really shows how much stuff in the US, British and German TOEs that we all take for granted.

Oh, and the TOE diagram has made a comeback with an updated format:

With that out of the way, I've ploughed straight into Semper Fi Syria Mission 9. It's played through, scripted and I've recorded the narration. Pretty straightforward, though it's a combined Marine-Army mission and I missed having Marine rifle platoons with a bazillion M16A4s.

That's well down the pipeline (just need to cut the audio and grab the footage), and next on the list is another Basics video. A follow-up to the Artillery Basics video covering types of artillery and fun things to do with them is a strong contender.

And then beyond, we've got the 10th Marine mission which involves rescuing some Army scouts who have stumbled into an ambush. This is a mission I know a few of you guys have been looking forward to... looks like there's a lot to go wrong to me.

Anyway, that's where we are this Friday. Again, just a reminder the channel will be changing over to monthly billing next week, but that shouldn't make much of a difference to you guys.

Obviously Shock Force is a lot later, but this seems a lot worse than the UnCons.

Wow, these guys are worse than the Soviets. Way worse. No radios and bloated squads. No heavy weapons of real use. Wild. My favorite bit of the video was where you mention the Italian platoon commander being distinguished with a hat that says, "I'm important. Treat me first." That was hilarious. And very spot on in mentioning how this example shows just how important it is to equip your units right and provide for flexibility and command control.

The 'shoot me hat' is a byproduct of RO2 where you could always identify the enemy commander by his hat.

At least their uniforms are cool looking. The Italians could be good when led by German officers and backed up German firepower in the Western desert. Unfortunately for them, they lost way too much in Tunisia for Italy to replace. I kept thinking that this TOE would be obsolete for WW1 until said it outright near the end.

The TO&E of Italian airborne would be interesting to see. Maybe a war room episode?

Large formations make the retreat more organized.
