Things weren't looking amazing at the end of Turn 7... and there's still a platoon of BTRs out there that's unaccounted for. On the plus side, Turn 10 sees the arrival of the American reinforcements and some much needed extra AT. Whether I'll be able to use it is another question...

Memorable events: Turn 9 Jeep driver Pvt. Dogie Burns shooting up Soviet scouts with his M16 while under fire from BTRs from the hills. "I signed up to be a ranger!" Turn 10 2/1st plt knocking out a BTR and gunning down dismounting Soviet scouts "Engage engage engage!" Turn 11 One of the TOW jeep firing a TOW at the hilltop and killing two Soviet scouts "Take that you commie bastard!" Sgt. Voortrekker knocking out enemy BRDM platoon HQ with a M72 and then killing another BTR with another volley of M72s "This is for Spencer!" Turn 12 An enemy BRDM survived several ATGM shots before being knocked out "This shitcan is getting ridiculous!” Sgt. "Itchyscoop" firing his pistol at advancing Soviet scouts before two of them blasting him with AK-74s "Fuck you!!!!" An enemy scout team running past remnants of 2/2nd and losing 4 men "Fire! " Turn 13 3/2nd routing in front of the two survivors of enemy scout team. "I can't take it anymore!" Last survivors of Kerry's squad running the gauntlet towards the shoreline. "Zeke! No! I'm the only one left? Why am I still alive?" 3/2nd wiped out while trying to escape, Pvt. Kevin decided to surrender "Please! Don...Don't kill me! Please! " Company mortar team eliminating enfiladed Soviet scouts. The whole area disappear under a concentrated mortar barrage. "Splash out! " Pvt. Tom Steele gunning down a Soviet scout while riding jeep "Did a bit of practice back in Baltimore. Ugh... don't tell anyone please?" A BTR opening fire on TOW jeep, somehow nobody is injured "That's a divine intervention I tell you" The last survivor of 1/2nd pursued by BTR on the shoreline, running to his doom in the cold blue seawater. "Kerry, Snix, Zeke, see you on the other side... I'm sorry mom."

My men in 2nd Platoon will sure be getting lots of medals, which I'm sure will be very comforting to their wives and mothers.

Ben Kerry

Want a narrative AAR for the situation? Kilgore just got shot.

Ben Kerry

I don't know how many men will get medals. There haven't been too many ‘extraordinarily brave" actions which can grant medals. Maybe the last survivor of my squad can get one if he survives. Vortrekker is probably gonna get one for destroying two BTRs. TBH a lot of us got killed simply because we fucked up. In some sense folks in 3rd and 2nd squad might get a medal for bravery (fighting to the last man and delaying Soviet advance against impossible odds). My squad unfortunately don't have so many "crazy" actions. I mean we got killed off too quickly to make any impact

Chodester

By turn 14 Ive stacked quite a bit of bodies

Ben Kerry

Want a story for your character?

Chodester

Yes sir, but when I die

Megalon Jones Slattery

His was always going to be a dicey situation for the RDF. What happens if the Soviets get to the Straights before the 24th Mech arrived in theater?.

Ben Kerry

OK, I actually think Sgt Chodester is gonna live and marry his high school sweetheart and have 4 kids and a big house with a nice lawn.

Chodester

But the war never left me 😂🫡

Ben Kerry

"There's no such thing as 'what if', we are here to hold the airport by all means at all costs! " Captain David "DC" Clarke, commander of A company, TF Ridgeway

Nicholas Shaler

I was thinking about that raid on a US platoon position in Afghanistan where most people got medals.

Ben Kerry

It's Cold war, not GWOT. Totally different mentalities. Schizo hat on, I think 1st Gulf War has ruined all public acceptance for casualties, this will be a huge problem in the future.

Ben Kerry

Thousand mile stare moment

Ray L

Hey Hap, in T14 you said Kilgore was 2nd Platoon XO, but it was the RTO who got shot. Did you misspeak?

Ben Kerry

OK, if you make it and if possible the next scenario I'm gonna have you going the most stereotypical cheesy 80s civilian life before suddenly switching to flashbacks

UsuallyHaplessVideos

Yeah, Split S is the 2Pl XO and Kilgore is the RTO. I like how I literally have a sheet of paper with all the names and I still get 'em mixed up!

Ray L

Soviet doctrine then (unchanged in current Russian doctrine) calls for attack directly from the approach march, as this scenario depicts. But doctrine also calls for artillery suppression of enemy ATGM and heavy weapons, even against light opposition. But our Persian Predicament Soviets have failed to conduct any artillery preparation whatsoever. The forward echelon depicted here would have had some artillery support, at least mortars. With the objective being an airfield the fire support would have planned to be in position for when the first reconnaissance troops arrived on objective. I predict that the consequence of the Soviet artillery support failure will be volleys of TOWS to greet the main body of the attack.

Poxyquotl

Highlight for me so far was seeing those effective mortars and watching PV2 Steele stand up from shotgun and zap that soviet like he was hunting mule deer from the road.

Sotemot

I was absolutely sure I would die when you pulled that TOW vehicle into the open within 700m of a BRDM looking that way. Guess I overestimated the BRDMs optics and responiveness. Feeling relatively safe at the moment though.. relatively..

Ben Kerry

He's from Baltimore, probably did a bit of this back in the days...

Ben Kerry

Well, that's the problem with Soviet doctrine I guess, artillery tend to move slow. And they have to do it quick, otherwise the 82nd would be dug in
