And it's a solid start to the campaign. Operation Fustian is something I hadn't really heard of before and it's actually a really interesting little operation. Lots of para-on-para action, with some Italians in the mix as well. What's not to like?

Probably the biggest issue from a video standpoint here is the darkness, but hopefully it's clear what's going on. The next mission looks like it should be a bit more difficult as well. It's hard to say whether I kinda sidestepped the difficulty on this one or just played my hand well. Guess that's up to you guys to decide ;)

In other news, this week I got the next Basics Video done. That'll be coming next Friday, leaving me the coming week to crack on with Foiling Fustian Mission Two and make some progress on other bits and bobs.

The WW2 campaigns are my favorites, they're how I found you in the first place on YouTube. Excited for more!

Very interesting scenario. Airborne vs airborne. When you first mentioned this campaign, I had to look it up and was surprised that it was fallschirmjaeger and that the first scenario was at night. Double whammy. I don't know that it could have turned out any better if you had had nogs. Night actions were so hit and miss(no pun intended) in WWII, but having eight MG42s to assist with holding your positions made staying put the logical decision. I would think the temptation is to go out and seek the enemy paratroopers, given the tier of your own troops. But, why bother with those kind of cards in your hand?

Ben Kerry

Btw why are there still machinegun battalions for Germans in WW2? I do know the British army had MG battalions in WW2 but I really don’t get their doctrinal rationale.

Ben Kerry

Yeah, been looking up mountaineer operations for my effortpost on "Persian Predicament DLC" (and also the "soft white underbelly of Europe")

Actually the 10th Arditi regiment that shows up in the next mission has a very interesting history

@GLG Yeah, it's an interesting dynamic. I have no problem cherry-picking my objectives based on the situation, but it's hard to tell whether this is accounted for in mission design.

@Ben Kerry It's just like a Weapon's Company, but for a higher level formation. They're pretty common.

Ben Kerry

From the wikipedia (yeah) description they are some sort of special operation unit similar to the British LRDG, unfortunately there ain’t much to read about their structure and capabilities.

Ray L

Those poor British paras! A less motivated force would have suffered far fewer casualties.

Jimmychanga

Hell yeah! A new campaign!

Actually there's a question: "what is courage". The Clausewitzian definition is actually "do the right thing at all circumstances". It is the rightful obedience to correct judgements. However such courage that relies on reason is highly interlinked with innate personnel quality, which recruitment pipeline always struggle with given the need to sustain casualty. Most of what could be called "courage" for infantryman lies in things like "espirit de corps" and such cultural concepts, which do not always translates to the militarily necessary Clausewitzian courage.
