Not a lot of art for this one- I'm not sure anyone's ever commissioned any artwork. For one side it's an embarrassing defeat, for the other it's just another skirmish (though the battle honour did end up on the Arc d'Triomphe, so I guess the French were pretty happy with themselves).

The result is that this one is about 90% maps. I'd rather there was a better balance, but at least its usually quicker to make some maps than it is to trawl the interwebs for the right kind of painting.

Now I've just got to sort out the Supertruppen bonus video before Monday...

A tactical comparison between this battle and Gettysburg would be a fun video, and I wouldn't mind it as a monthly bonus video.

I know next to nothing regarding Gettysburg except it’s the big one and the good guys won

It's a fascinating battle that also involved a fight over a ridge, but unlike this one, the defenders were able to stabilize the position, which led to a major defeat for the attacking Confederates when they attempted to assault the Union center. Look up Pickett's Charge for that particular slaughter.

I probably don't know enough about Gettysburg off the top of my head to make a video quickly :P I've watched the movie though

It's a fascinating battle from a maneuvering perspective, as well as the personal stories and the close contact struggles. I'd recommend it for an episode of this show if there weren't so much content about it already.

The Spanish flanks here were very easy to turn, given the straight line position. At Gettysburg the Federal lines were shaped as a fishhook, with Federal reserves enjoying interior lines making it a short march to reinforce any part of the line. Conversely, the Confederates on the “outside” of the fishhook had just the opposite … long marches to concentrate at any given point. At Gettysburg successive attempts to turn the Federal flanks failed, leading Lee to mistakenly conclude that if the flanks were so “strong”, the center must be “weak”. Pickett’s charge against the Federal center showed he was very, very wrong.

Yep. Though arguably Victor had much better reasons to risk attacking than Lee

FYI, I actually didn’t mind at all that this episode was map-heavy. One suggestion: when naming what subunits are involved in the TOE it wouldn’t hurt to Zoom In on that location for a few seconds.

Yeah, that makes sense. Parts of the map were definitely getting very cluttered, meaning the icons were getting small and hard to read.
