Hey Everyone!!

For a Halloween release this year, I thought it would be fun to take on a stone Gargoyle! Its a little different than my typical animal designs, and was so much fun to explore. I really enjoyed adding all the cracked and chipped stone details. Gargoyles (or Grotesques) were added to medieval buildings to ward off bad spirits. Sounds like a great spooky season companion to me!

Check out a quick Demo Video!

I hope you like it!Matt

Pictured Prints use the following filaments***(reference the numbered prints in last image of the gallery)

1) Sunlu Marble Ashen Concrete, Sunlu Marble Brick Red2) Ziro Rainbow Blaze3) Sunlu Marble Shadow Storm 4) Sunlu Marble Chestnut Brown

Body: Print in place

Head: Snap-fit to Body using Connector Head. There is a small custom brim around the head to help with adhesion. Remove and discard it after printing

Arms Lf & Rt: Snap-fit to Body.

Wings Lf & Rt: Snap-fit to Body.

Connector Head: Use to connect the heads to the Body.

Multicolor 3MFs: This includes a simple 3MF to paint the eyes Red, but also functions as an easy way to load all of the print parts on one plate.  If you don’t want the colored eyes:Select the head > Select the Color Painting tool > click “Erase all Painting”(for Orca based slicers… it's often better to use File>Import rather than Open Project, so that it doesn't import any printer specific presets/settings.)

Tool_ConnectorHelper: Simple tool to aid in inserting connector pins (see video)

No supports

10%-15% Infill (I recommend Gyroid, Crosshatch or 3D Honeycomb)

3 Walls. (Assuming 0.4mm nozzle. Adjust wall count to account for alternate nozzle sizes)

This should generally scale down to about 75% with full articulation, on a well calibrated printer.  Your mileage may vary.

Literally trying to decide what to print right now, so perfect timing!! Love it!

Brian

Hopefully get some more Halloween stuff and holiday stuff soon....hint hint to prep for stuff

DonnyBrasco

I’ve recently come back to printing after almost two years off. I kept my patreon active this entire time because I love your stuff. This one kinda surprised me because it seems a bit different than what I remember but honestly I really like it! Very nice ♥️

GATO

So awesome

Mike Wardlow

This is incredible! Thank you!

Mac Kloberg

Hi Mat, this guy is super cool, great work once again! Perfect timing too, we have a ren faire coming up and I want two of these to flank our booth (oversized). Without cutting it up, I was able to get it to 240% on a 270mm3 build volume. We could probably get quite a bit more if the tail wasn't in the way on the body plate (the other parts are ok)... For V2, I would strongly suggest making the tail a separate "plug in" part as well, that would help a lot of folks that want to scale this up to a ridiculous size. Just a suggestion :-) Mac

Andrew Quassi

Thank you for this design. I can't wait to print this for the Ren Faire

Steven Heck

I ran into a similar problem trying to shrink them and maximize build volume. If the tail were a separate 'plug in' piece, I could fit another one or two models on the plate.

Kevin

This is awesome. I think I’m going to print one for myself in ASA to put out in the garden or by a birdhouse.

LuLAB

This is so cool!

PrintedAF

This is awesome man! Your designs skill are so good love to see you venturing outside of animals!

Dova

Is anyone else having durability issues specifically with it's left arm? As in the left of its own or right when we are looking at it face-to-face? I've printed off four separate arms and had four separate failures but no issues with the opposite arm

Phil Wilt

I’ve printed two in Lovoon glitter blue with red silk eyes and wow!!

matmire_makes

Aside from the surface detailing, the left and right arms are both identical, so I can’t think of any reason for that. Make sure you’re printing them with 3 walls.

Dova

Ill be sure to double check. Thanks Mat

Steve Powell

Oooooooh my God. My wife is gonna go nuts for this!!

Steve d

You know what is a flex, seeing the gargoyle and sayin i need him, then realizing you already subscribe and it is basically fee.

Dika

Hi everyone

Mac Kloberg

Hi Stephen, what I ended up doing was to open up the hole in the first link of the tail with a negative modifier box at the bottom (creating a hook basically), that is a little bit smaller than the shaft going through the body. Now the tail clicks onto the body. With that little mod, I was able to scale the body up to 293%, barely fitting on my plate and scratching the maximum print height on mine (U1). At that scale, the wings wouldn't fit on the plate anymore, so they are printing angled up on supports. With the wings attached, I estimate it to be just short of 400mm tall when finished.

JJ

Love this. I've printed 4 with neon green eyes and just figured out the back legs move also.

UpNorth3Developers - Gail

These print like a dream! 8 hours on the Snapmaker U1 with colored eyes. Another excellent work of art. Thank you.

Kythera of Anevern

I am absolutely BONKERS for gargoyles! Signed up just for this new friend. 💜

Matthew Rice

currently working on a 320% scale version. it will be a beast!

Whims & Wings

Excellent idea! I just finished one at 300% on a K2 Plus without any modifications, and I love him so much, I want one even bigger. I can do 400%, maybe even a little more, on my Ender 5 Max if I use your tail trick.

MamaBear

I'm going to make this as big as possible

Floyd Holmes

I had to scale mine up for fun. May try to go bigger.
