I’m really amazed how good and informative your videos are

Kasim

only minor disappointment, if i may say so, your videos are not frequent enough.

Kasim

This videos are worth every ‘penny’ amongst other things i love, i love seeing investment (my patronage) paying off.

Kasim

good job

James Flowers

Well done on this edition, keep up the great quality even if it slows down production time -- there is SOO much depth of history to explore and you're a long way away from running out of content! Nice source list -- can you recommend a particular one or two of your favorite? Heck, I have a lot more free time these days. I'll make sure to purchase through those amazon links in the video ;)

James Flowers

You should add a youtube annotation pointing back to your other great video about Cicero https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MkZx0q_3rYI p.s. I like the reference to Antonius the "ambitious idiot" in the aforementioned video. Is this the uncle of Mark Antony that he had to sacrifice in the current video? p.p.s. Interesting to contrast Cicero's control of the situation in the Senate during the Catiline timeframe with the events of 44/43 BC

Sean

I think Octavian naming Cicero's son to the consulship so that he could announce Antony's defeat at Actium is an even greater tribute to how he still felt about the father.

abdullah duheric

A legendary middlefinger if there ever was one.

Martijn Mulder

They are not very frequent because videos of this quality take time!

Kasim

It was a compliment.

Joseph Donohue

Cicero was no better than the politicians around him. He put Catalina to death without trial. That set a precedent that led to Cicero's end.

the fact that you started a new playlist for Octavian makes me feel extremely swag for the future

I have an unrelated question. In several of your videos, you mention Sulla and describe his story as a can of worms (which has made it so much more intriguing). I have been reading a bit about Sulla and think it would be an excellent topic. Do you have any intention of opening this can of worms in the future? Cool episode by the way.

David Rofe

Reading “Storm before the storm”?

David Rofe

“Sulla- The Last Republican” is also good, even though the name is bit of a misnomer. It’s more academic though, but still a good read. The depiction of the scene with a young Julius Caesar and Sulla sparing his his life is pretty cool (reads like the opening of a Hollywood swords and sandals bio-pic). Cinna is an interesting character but very little is known about him. One of the best scenes is Sulla returning to Rome with the head of Marius’ son in his hand whilst saying “you gotta learn to row before you can stear boy”.

Chris Gunson

My 12yo son just finished watching I, Claudius. I think it would take you 30 episodes to get from here, the start of the second Triumvirate, to Nero :)

Michael Rück

@ David Rofe: thanks for the Tip; I will have a Look Into it

David Rofe

Good to hear. I’d start with storm before the storm and then move on to Sulla the last republican. Storm before the storm will provide a more general narrative and overall view and then Sulla the last Republican provides a close up, more detailed analysis

EK

Maybe the best one yet

Wyattrox03

Octavian should've just finished off Antony

David Rofe

How did you go with Sulla?

Michael Rück

I managed to buy the book and have it cued behind the 12 other books I intend but never get to read 😅. Summer vacations are coming up in August. So, fingers crossed ...

Michael Rück

Hello Mr Rofe, I finally read "the storm before the storm". It was a real page turner and I would like to thank you for your excellent recommendation. It made me even more hungry for roman history. Greetings Michael
