Megan picked this one for us — Taylor Swift's "Carolina" from Where the Crawdads Sing. But there's a twist: there are actually two different edits of this song, so we're reacting to both. The shorter lyric video cut first, then the extended version with the full instrumental outro that never made the lyric video.

Full folklore/evermore-era sound throughout: fiddle, mandolin, acoustic guitar, and a slow, haunting build.

Thank you Megan for the request! This is exactly why we love doing member picks — you all send us music we might've missed otherwise.

there's north and south carolina, they've got coastal plains and waterways. barrier islands and hurricanes. Carolina in the song is a fictional river . the carolina's are part of Appalachia, an ancient mountain range in the US.

Taylor and Aaron produced this. There is Banjo, Mandolin and Fiddle with Guitar, Piano and synth. It's a very Carolina sound. A little country and bluegrass.

Claudia McCourt

Either Taylor or Aaron said that all the instruments in the song are from the 1950’s or earlier to give the song a vintage feel

Erin Smith

Very cool, it worked!

I think I'm a Folklore/Evermore girlie because I grew up on Bluegrass music with my great grandparents. My Great Grandfather played and built mandolins, violins, etc. My great grandmother taught me to yodel when I was a kid. This is still my top 5. Message Luke from GOT Games! He's THE best! I'm about to send him his care package, too! 🫶

This is a great movie as well! She fully encapsulated the aura of the movie. Great reaction, Kyle & Alanna!

Taylor REALLY captured the atmosphere of the swampy, hot, lonely vibes in the book / movie. I highly recommend reading the book & seeing the movie Alanna, they’re both fantastic!

Mollymo

The movie is great, but the book was AMAZING! The book was so much more detailed! I recommend both! ❤️

Taylor wrote the song after reading the book. She gifted the song to Reese Witherspoon who was producing the movie, before the movie even started filming.
