Debut turns 20 this October, and Kennedy made the case that we had to go back to the beginning — back before "All Too Well," before track 5 was even a thing people talked about, to the original one: "Cold As You."

Taylor wrote this with Liz Rose when she was 13 or 14, and she's called the lyrics some of the best the two of them ever wrote together — a song about finally seeing someone clearly and realizing you'd been making excuses for them the whole time. The album booklet's secret message for this one: "Time to Let Go." A teenager wrote that. We still can't get over it.

Kennedy — thank you for this pick, and for taking us back to where the magic started. Debut's 20 years old this year and it still hits exactly the same.

This was nice. Debut isn't an album i listen to so any of the songs off it are first timers for me .

OMG! I’m so glad you paused to talk about your thoughts on the millennial gray thing, that’s currently my house. My husband and I decided we want to change stuff up and add more color and we picked…..dark green for an accent wall after we paint the rest a cream or something. WTF😂😭 I didn’t know this was the new “millennial color”! How? Why? How did this somehow get imprinted on us? Lol! I’m now revolting and choosing something else!

Thank you Kennedy for bringing the OG track 5 to the channel and happy birthday 🫶. I CANNOT wait to get debut in Taylor’s adult voice. Taylor is so empathetic and that can crush a young heart when you don’t understand how others don’t feel the same way. Writing “and you come away with a great little story of a mess of a dreamer with the nerve to adore you” at 13 or 14 🤯

Thank you for the birthday shoutout Kyle and Alanna. It’s so crazy for me realize that 9 year old Kennedy and almost 29 year old me is still finding such deep insights, immeasurable guidance, and fearless joy in Taylor! Debut has such a lasting legacy! I cannot wait to hear debut with her mature vocals 🦋💙🫶

This song is so applicable to everyone. Whether it’s about a romantic relationship, a friendship, a dynamic with a family member or coworker or anyone! This feeling of coldness and rejection can live in any form of human relationship. It’s what makes us fawn or fight or freeze or fly. Such a mature and emotionally intelligent song from a young Taylor… INSANE 🤯🫶⭐️🦋💙

The gray walls thing is so funny and I am wondering that now 😂❤️
