Wow, that's a lot of serial numbers in the title of this episode, huh. I should probably find a more elegant approach to naming these.

So here we have the next-to-last Microvision retrospective; after next month, I will cheerfully move along to more vibrant and fertile grounds for my bonus features. These are by far the slightest games I have ever covered on my channel in a decade-plus of doing this. So I hope you don't mind me indulging myself a bit as I dive into the history of Star Trek in the 1970s instead of trying to wring insightful commentary out of games as shallow as these.

Where no handheld has gone before: Star Trek: Phaser Strike / Vegas $lot$ | Game Boy Works Gaiden 15

Before Star Trek: The Experience hit Las Vegas, there was... Star Trek: Phaser Strike and Vegas $lot$ for Microvision. And, not unlike that future themed attraction, eventually it became too expensive to maintain and there was simply Phaser Strike and Vegas $lot$. As you might expect, there's not much substance and not much to say about these games, so I've spent a lot of this episode talking about why Star Trek ended up being the world's first licensed handheld video game. I also tried to capture the essence of the Vegas $lot$ experience by giving you a pure, unfiltered taste of its heart-pounding action. Please enjoy. Production notes: Video Works is funded via Patreon (http://www.patreon.com/gamespite) — support the show and get access to every episode up to two weeks in advance of its YouTube debut! Plus, exclusive podcasts, eBooks, and more! Why watch when you can read? SG-1000 Works: Segaiden Vol. I is available NOW, and Metroidvania: The First Decade and NES Works Gaiden are due in 2025. NES footage captured from Analogue Nt Mini. Video upscaled to 4K with RetroTink 4X and 720p with xRGB Mini Framemeister.
