The maesters speech reminds me a bit of the climate change counter argument that the earth has always changed its temperature about.

Thank you for taking the time to do a livestream as you work to get the episode one video out. I can't believe I missed the first livestream but hopefully I'll be able to catch it next week. This was a fantastically fun combination of Schwift and Shift. It's nice to see a little behind the scenes silliness and mental gymnastics before the polished up Shift video is out.

I managed to listen in to most - was fun. Future weeks I should be able to get involved. Unguarded Dragonstone still bugs me but I get your point about a small meaningless battle scene. They could just have had a bunch of Unsullied formed up on the beach when Dany landed though. Would've at least have indicated they'd gone through, cleared the joint out, made it safe and unlocked the front gate... A bit of internal logic.

I listened to this after it was done but still, it was great. Thank you!

Very interesting look behind the scenes. Though I didn't get it live, I really enjoyed it. I love how your Schwift persona is trying to take over. Don't fight it :)

And our mistrust of science as a Conspiracy. But a lot of Sam's literal shit jobs reminded me about being a petty functionary in academia, can't lie

Missed the live stream which I normally do in most cases. (Not a big fan of live stream.) I agree with Rikke. We all tune in because of your Schwift persona. However, Arya killed every important Frey that was celebrating the death of the Starks. The soldiers at the camp site were from different families just doing their jobs like most soldiers working for high borns. This was also the first time I recall a group of Lannister soldiers being this friendly. In your pic of Sam reading the book with the layout of Dragonstone, it looks like the area where all the dragon glass is located brings on the shape of hairy balls. This is what happens when I'm looking at a pic for too long. Or is it just me?

Sam is basically Neville Longbottom

So feedback on this. In regards to fighting, I think it's more disturbing to have kids fight than a boy versus girl thing, and you did focus on that after the gender issue. I think the kids should be prepared for whats to come just as most boys are, but in all seriousness children all our future. They should be there very last of defense. If anything women grown should be learning for the fight, and hopefully the children wont have too but they should be protected at all costs first. Ned Stark's whole deal is the protection of children and so is Jon Snow. Sadly they cut off that part from the books of the baby switching thing . Also there could of been a few options to help things with the whole Umber/Karstark. Taking of hostages , since it's children in charge maybe nights of the vale be regent. The normal political process will not be able to followed as well because of the urgency of the situation, but there was a compromise if they were willing to look for it. As far as speaking of feminism Seth Myers has people on his show telling "jokes" that he cant tell because not a female, lesbian etc. Maybe have a female guest. It wouldnt take the whole blow off but it would help. The fact of the mattter this GRRM's message is feminism and D and D are trying to get some of that but there is so much feox feminism out there that debats are needed no matter how crazy they can get. Also, with your reason Animporphs reading, you know how Rachel was sent to kill her cousin and died doing it. She was so war focused that there were so many hints that she was going to die because there was no sign that she could fit back into normal life, and I feel the same way about Arya. So I do like the sacrafice suggestion I too am seeing her like Rachel. That comparsion would be better on the next reading but ...eh tangents.

Yeah they probably should have added something small like that

"I'm terrified of saying the word 'Feminism' because if you do that on Youtube it's like saying Voldemort." HAHAHAHA!!! I couldn't have come up with a more accurate analogy of the internet/social media culture of extremes. Honestly it's really what it's come down to. You even demonstrate as such right after when talking about how HBO (or D&D) changed Euron Greyjoy from the Vanilla "I'm going to murder them" evil bad guy from last season to the rainbow coloured "peanut M&M" weird funny bad guy of this season. Like much of Hollywood and the internet/social culture it essentially reflects, the show is just obsessed with extremes. ''Viewers didn't like our boring cliché bad guy of last season, well let's turn him into a silly wisecracking caricature this season instead. That'll work!'' It tries to be a social chameleon but only achieves to be mercurial and bipolar, embodying the very worst of a largely radicalized society. Great post as usual. Love your common sense. Cheers!

The show runners are absolutely spewing up feministic "girl power" or "strong female character" tropes a bit too heavily in their version of GRRM's story epic. To a point where it makes little sense in this fictional world and is instead solely there to make a very clumsy political statement to the audience. GRRM however never fell into the same trap as Hollywood in trivializing social progressive agendas to these borderline propaganda levels of ridicule. Before you or someone else starts angrily pounding on their keyboards, let me just say "Hurray for feminism, diversity and powerful well written female characters" but to hell with the "let's turn every female character into an 80s action hero cliché who fights social injustice and misogyny" crap much of Hollywood is pedalling to modern audiences. George R.R. Martin wrote clever strong willed female characters who thrive IN SPITE of the realities of their world and their own personal flaws. That's what makes the characters, like the world they're in, more relatable. In films and television, it's as if the writers are afraid of letting a female character have any flaws whatsoever, woe to them otherwise for not adhering to the idea of untouchable female and minority characters in entertainment. In the ASoIF novels, the brilliance of GRRM is how no character is without reproach. They aren't your flawless white knights and virgin princesses of fables, they're humans with human flaws and attributes. The show has lost much of that nuance in the last couple seasons unfortunately.
