Here's the new video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPj6_REgmNM

Again, this is a pre-release for Patrons – there are some minor visual issues and an audio glitch which are fixed in the final version.

Also, for the sake of our European friends, the next livestream will be held 36 hours after GOT ep 5 – so that'll be 9am NY time, 2pm London time, 3pm Berlin time on Tuesday. Sound good?

Cheers!

2 pm London time would have many europeans still in school or at work (including me, sadly) But better than 3 am anyway :)

Stephanie M

Another awesome episode analysis! Thanks for thinking about the Europeans.

2026-09-17 12:00 Another great vid. Just letting you know that the audio cuts out about 15s before the end.

Hahaha strap on your tin foil and check out Preston Jacobs. I used to love him but I can't stand how cynical he is about the show anymore. Sure, it has some issues...but it's still amazing and probably the best (or one of the best) ever made. He just tears it to shreds week after week.

Alt Shift X

Yeah thanks John - that's fixed in the final version

GemmaG

That was wonderful, visuals are gorgeous. Pure class!

Hmmm Some people from /r/freefolk pointed out that Jamie matched Bran falling out the window as he sank in the first episode. I think the connection to tyrion also works

Sanandreas92

9am Tuesday morning puts nearly all Americans at work, at school, or asleep (for night shift workers) 🤔😒😥

Stephanie M

Did you say last season when referring the picture of Tyrion from season 5? I went back to listen again and that's what it sounds like.

Great video! Dany's strategy has a lot of plot holes yet we know those plot armour will always be the best defense! Especially for Jaime as he sinks down below the depths of the pond.

Alt Shift X

Yup that's my mistake - in the final version, added an asterisk on the lil on-screen "S5E05" to acknowledge the error.

Alt Shift X

Haha true. That water looks super deep.. but heroes like Jaime can hold their breath (;

Emily Crocker

This is such a small nit, but I don't want the trolls to eat you alive -- at 2:52 you say Bran is the eldest living Stark, but I think you might have meant the eldest living Stark male. Otherwise great video!!!

Kelly Theobald

Oh no hahaha, you're never supposed to think about how characters go to the bathroom in fantasy stories 😂 #scarred

Glandor Hooverstein

Hi Shift, great video as always. I think the comparison to Sharra Arryn to Cersei with the fly dragons to the capital thing is missing a couple of points. Firstly Lady Arryn was a reasonable person, while Cersei is more of a fight with back to the wall kind of person. Also Sharra was trying to protect her son, while Cersei doesn't have any children left, and has nothing to lose. And consider that Aegon's Conquest had already resulted in many huge victories and wiping out of existing kingdoms, so the Arryns were much less motivated to fight by that point. So I think if Daenerys was to try and land on the Red Keep without any violence I think the result would be really different, because Cersei would force her soldiers to keep fighting and they'd have loads of those anti-dragon ballistas being built and stationed around the castle walls I imagine.

Asia

I was just about to point this out if no one else had!

Alt Shift X

Yeah I guess the Bran thing is an interesting parallel, given of course that Jaime caused Bran's fall.. but yeah the Tyrion thing works too, and segued nicely into discussion of J+T's relationship

Alt Shift X

Ah true, thanks! I seem to have made more mistakes than usual in this vid -.-

Alt Shift X

Yeah I agree that the Arryn analogy is imperfect, and Dany attacking the Keep could get very messy. I still think it's a reasonable option though, given the alternatives - and I think the show presents a false dichotomy between fighting in battles vs razing KL. Thanks Benjamin!

Shiera Seastar

I wonder Alt if, after the tv show is done this season, you might think about making a video (or videos) about the Blackfyre Rebellions? I think you could definitely do them justice!! :D

DscoDan

Great recap! I noticed that there wasn't any mention of Bran giving Petyr's blade to Arya Stark. My theory is that Bran knows that Petyr tried to have him killed and that he is setting Arya up to kill Petyr with his own blade. Also, Bran mentioned in episode three while talking to Sansa that he needs to talk to Jon, which feels like the time at which Jon will learn the truth about his lineage.

Stephanie M

I would love that! I hope there are more book oriented videos to come, character analysis, history and lore, and of course theories. I'm all for the more Targaryen/Blackfyre content the better!

Lorayne Thompson

I understand the points against violence the show is trying to make all the while showing lots of it and other things too. I do have to ask, how do we suppose Cerci will be overthrown? Have Danny come over and call for elections? How will the White Walkers be appeased short of complete destruction? My point is sometimes ya gotta fight for what you believe / want / for your life. I would prefer less hypocritical preachiness from a violent light porn show and just get on with the fun!

Paul Vahur

Take one for the team! (European fan)

Paul Vahur

What you meant was, oldest living legitimate Stark successor (i.e. oldest legitimate son of Ned).

Paul Vahur

It is my impression that when they are talking about thousands of deaths they mean civilian casualties in the capital, rather than soldiers. Soldiers are humans too of course, but in a war you don't think about the deaths of enemy soldiers. They should (but usually aren't) be concerned about the civilian population.

Paul Vahur

Thanks for shifting the livestream time for this episode! :-)

Hairless Oyster

I went to breakfast yesterday . Asked for a bacon, mushroom omelette with cole slaw on the side. They put coleslaw in the omelette by mistake. It was glorious misstep. It's a "thing" now in my world. Made my day and I felt compelled to share that thought with you. Cheers. Have Fun.

Rikke Holmberg

Beautiful food description, Oyster. Truly.

Alt Shift X

Yeah there definitely needs to be a vid on the Rebellions (:
