(spoilers) It was soooo satisfying!! Honestly, I haven't liked the finales of the last couple seasons, and this is the first one in a few years where I actually loved it. My thoughts: 1. I was dying during the reunions! The long stares... Oh it was so good. I can't wait to see you break all that down, Shift. 2. I'm mad beyond belief that the Sansa/Arya conflict was a setup. It still doesn't add up. But I won't complain too hard... 3. I don't know what was more satisfying: Littlefinger's throat getting cut or that guy trying to kick Theon in the groin! 4. The Cersei stuff was amazing. They could have easily gotten the tone wrong, but all of her reactions (from the wight to Tyrion to revealing her master schemes to Jaime) were perfect. 5. The Targaryen reveal was really well done. Absolutely spectacular! Gave me chills. 6. I'm so glad they showed us the ICE DRAGON! I couldn't breathe the last few minutes of the episode. (Though, it's still a little unclear. It breathes blue fire. Is it hot fire? Cold fire? Since blue is hotter than red, does the ice dragon breathe hotter fire than the regular dragons?) Criticisms: Maybe the dragon pit scenes went on a liiiiittle too long. Also......maybe just maybe........they should have killed Jaime. 😬 Not really...but it would have brought some of the old spark back to kill off a major character unexpectedly. I don't know what it was about this finale--everything felt so natural. Last last episode, I thought the Jaime/Tyrion scene was a little awkward, but the Cersei/Tyrion confrontation felt right and had me on the edge of my seat. Almost killing Tormund last episode felt a bit like a gimmick, but almost killing Jaime this episode was genuine drama. The pacing was great, nothing was rushed, everything made sense. Even though this season has been both bad and good, I think this is one of the better season finales of the whole series.

I enjoyed it. One of my favourite finales. Especially liked the KL scenes, which were drama-driven, not action-driven. It told a story, not just showed us what they can do. Even though I've been really annoyed at the Arya/Sansa scenes, I thought the conclusion was well handled. It was a good scene. I was certain the twist was coming and found it hilarious that Dan said in the Inside the Episode that he thought everyone would be surprised. Interested, Shift, in whether you've now changed your mind about whether the NK has greenseer abilities. It seems he wanted a dragon for a very specific purpose! I now think some of the holes in the beyond the wall plot was part of the NK's plan.

I really enjoyed the episode. It felt like the old Game of Thrones with the rich discussions and the characters behaving like themselves and learning and growing with their experiences. I'm really hoping they confirm longer episodes for the shorter upcoming season since it seems the only way to really develop the story properly is to ensure they have some time for discussions. The action is great, don't get me wrong, I am thoroughly enjoying the dragon time we're getting but those conversations the characters have contain just as much magic as the dragons do. Eager to hear Shift's interpretation and thoughts.

I am glad there was more to the Sansa/Arya arc than them being petty. It doesn't retroactively make E6 not lame. But that's the kind of thing that will mildly annoy people who marathon through it in the future, but when they leave you hanging a week watching in real time, and there is heated internet discussion, the fandom can work up a good anger. Did you like the Clegane reunion, or did you feel fanserviced?

Kelly Theobald

Haha that's a good way of putting it. I agree, it turned out okay, way better than Arya being petty/a psycho. But I just wish their conversations had taken place in a courtyard or something, not a private room where there's little chance of LF seeing or hearing them. Otherwise, it feels like deliberately tricking the fans for a cheap plot twist :/ As for the Clegane reunion, I couldn't help love it! A lot of the dialogue this season feels like fanservice (especially the dialogue beyond the wall), but I've still been enjoying it. What about you??

Bran the Builder

I pretty much loved everything, including the Arya/Sansa bit. Apparently a lot of their convos were around open doors and, one was def on the terrace/balcony where they have been staging scenes all season. And I also agree that, with a bunch of other problems in that episode, and a week in between to bitch/analyze, it made it seem worse. Agreed about the Targ reveal! I know a lot of ppl didn't like it, but that scene brought real tears! Both viewings, 'cause of course I watched it twice! And I actually LIKED that they made Rhaegar look like Viserys - since show watchers haven't seen him in 6 season... Also, I loved Jaime leaving on a black horse, in a black cloak, with the snow just starting...beautifully shot! All of the stuff at the dragon pit was awesome to me - especially how the score enhanced it! The timing, the reunions, the stares...all excellent! This was my fav episode in a while, and def one of the better finales, I agree!

Too way early for me, I have to watch it afterwards. I posted my questions on Reddit.

I think it was sad and sweet how Jon brings up Ned's death because of his integrity before Cersei accuse Tyrion of causing the deaths in the Lannister family. Ned's kindness saved Cersei and her children's lives. Then one of the children he saved sentenced him to death. I just thought it was great how Ned was referenced so much. As much as he is called an idiot, his kindness saved Jon's life. Jon wouldn't be there Ned wasn't the man he was. Ned attempting to save Cersei's bastards and giving them the chance to flee, trying to save Dany across the sea from assassins, and taking in Theon the son of a rebel and treating him with kindness, has fundamentally shaped the lives of our main cast. Their lives have all been influenced by Ned. As much as I don't like the show at times, I really loved seeing this tie together.

Stephanie M

Like the Lion King song?

Aliapollo

Hi AltShiftX- just watched the video. It was perfect like always. I think all people possessing a Vilarian Steel is either in or heading to Winterfell at this point.

Audun Opsahl

Did not make it. but watching now. One thing about Arya and Sansa. If they could not speak out loud without littlefinger knowing they could not plan it. How ever They might have if they talked through letters. Secret letters sent between all the starks. But again. atleast then they should have showed it.

Stephanie Nasti

Didn't get a chance to ask this during the live stream, but how can Cersi hire the Golden Company? Didn't Stannis hire them to go north with him?

Laura Viniconis

If I remember correctly, they peaced out when he burned Shireen alive.

Stephanie Nasti

Exacty. According to them, they never break a contract. I'm sure they would not be so willing to head north anytime soon,

AngryPacman

I'm quite sure that was the Second Sons, in the show.

Aliapollo

all the food supply Danny burned in Season 7 will have significant consequences in season 8.

Stephanie Nasti

Weren't the Second Sons with Dany in Essos?

Alt Shift X

Yeah it's not for no reason that Jaime wields Widow's Wail

Kangaroo Bob

Is it just me or does it just not feel like Game of Thrones anymore without any real twists or shocking deaths? And no Littlefnger doesn't count

Raph Leclaire

I wouldn't count on it. Seems more to me like D&D just wanted Drogon to be able to blow shit up... I seriously doubt they'll remember the blown up wagons were supposed to carry food. If this season was any indication, next season will be quite sparse of any complex plots and political repercussions. It's going to be "Good Guys vs Bad Guys" for 6 episodes.

Raph Leclaire

Not just you... The show used to feel like an entity of its own, with the writing, the characters/acting, the plots, the world...everything felt like it all seamlessly blended into a perfect storm which made up the show. It felt like actually peeking through another reality where GoT was real and any semblance to our world was merely coincidental. Now the (outside) influence (notably D&D's) can be felt all over. Looking like a bad play sprinkled with flashy visuals and action at the expense of plot logic. The show runners no longer value the characters but instead focus on the actors, pandering everywhere they can, making the world and story suit their fanboy hero/revenge porn wishes. Turning favourite 'Good' characters into their most heroic selves and 'Bad' ones into equally cliché evil villains). To hell with the nuances and grounded fantasy elements that made the series so beloved.

Timur Friedman

Has anyone made the point yet that the Jon and Dany shipping took place, literally, onboard a ship? That's fan service for you.

Emily Crocker

I am so so so sad that Stupid Hurricane Harvey caused me to miss your last live stream of the season. Questions I would have loved to listen to you ponder aloud: 1.) It's made clear that there is always a cost for magic-- especially blood magic-- so will there be consequences for Arya using the magic of the faceless men for her vendetta instead of for issuing the gift? 2.) IMO the way the wight behaved in the Dragon Pit only serves to further support your theory that even the wights are intelligent, or are being controlled by an intelligent being-- the thing went straight for Cersi. If it weren't for the chain there's no way the Mountain or Jaime could've protected her in time. (not really a query) 3.) Do you think the Starks knew about R+L being married, but spun it that he "took" her for political reasons? Who's lie was RR based upon? Will miss your videos tremendously during your break because I'm so grateful for the effort you put into each of your masterpieces-- but you certainly have earned some R&R!
