Black Aly is a legend and Daeron is such a SWEETHEART

Jared

Ngl this episode seemed like an april fools joke

Alexei

Also I’m just ecstatic for Joe Magician, what with all this Alys Rivers going on

SIX HOURS?! I will drink every drop. This episode felt like more treading water. I don't know what I'm expecting tbh, I enjoy the journey, but it feels like something more should be happening. I guess a siege on Tumbleton at a minimum. The mystery guys popping out and killing yellow cloaks and now (maybe?) Corlys getting got by the silly group of anime characters is a bit... not to my liking. But there was a lot to like too. I'm buckled in. Hopefully the next two episodes provide satisfaction that 7/8 of Season 2 did not provide (but 1/2 of 3 did (secretly 9/10 of season before they changed it))

Losing me ever so slightly with this one. There were a few things I didn’t like. Baela/Alyn was very random to me. I feared it was just some gratuitous incest until someone informed me it is indeed in the books? It still felt more like shock value than anything. Don’t like the Alicent plan. It seems a little silly once again. Criston’s death was a little underwhelming, but hey at least he got to get killed by a girl! I still liked the ep, it just felt a little less… in control?

RYCBAR2013

I liked most of it but why are the writers so desperate to have Alicent kill her own kids???

Mcdiddys

Pretty sure Alyn & Baela are at least a lot closer in age in the books. Not sure why they had to make that change.

Kelly Theobald

They don’t look *too* different in age in the show to me. It’s more that Baela is so underdeveloped, you barely know what she wants, and then all of a sudden this is happening

Kelly Theobald

I agree! It’s a little comical at this point

Edit just to say: WEE WOO WEE WOO ALARM ALARM HBO called the episode "The Faceless Men"!!!! This is not a drill!!! Faceless Men confirmed!!! (Or a horrifically distasteful "April's Fools" style joke on readers/avid viewers (ie all of us)) WEE WOO WEE WOO ALARM OVER

I don't necessarily have an issue with her justifying it by saying like "Aegon is a r*pist and a terrible neglectful king." "Aemond was bullied and treated poorly but has turned into an unhinged one-man nuke rolling around kinslaying all over the country." But she doesn't really give voice to any reasons that would lead a mother to justify these actions. With Aegon there's more of a background and we can infer her feelings towards him based on past behavior. It makes sense that she sees him as a sacrifice worth making because he was such a bad person (his entire life) and king for the short period he held it. He had some potential, but he immediately snapped under the first pressure of his position (his son being murdered caused him to go on a warpath against unrelated people). Snapping in that situation is somewhat understandable and yet still unforgivable. It's "unbecoming behavior" from a "good" king. With Aemond it seems much more spite-based really which just makes her a horrible person and mother. (Aemond dismissing her from the small council seems to be the reason she's ratting him out? Hard to say and the show sure ain't helping). Perhaps she knows (she suspected at least) that Aemond took out Aegon seemingly on purpose as far as we can tell. And yet, wouldn't that action be justified by Aemond? Sure it's a horrible thing, but one man and one dragon taken out allowing his more competent brother to rule seems like a "net good" from Alicent and the Hightower perspective. Aemond is a Targ all the way- but he's also half Hightower and would likely act in their favor in many ways (he wanted to bring Otto back, after all. We know Otto would have pushed pro-Hightower positions). She condemned Aemond for doing what she herself was doing- sacrificing Aegon. (She agreed to let Rhaenyra capture and execute Aegon- but he fled before she arrived). It's hypocritical and, worse for a story, nonsensical. If she was willing to sacrifice her bad eldest son why does she also condemn Aemond for being the one who beat her to "doing the deed"? Perhaps the point is it's meant to be hypocritical and nonsensical- it is a mother coping with her powerlessness to stop her two murderous sons from doing murder to each other. It's not made clear though in the show unfortunately.

finally acknowledged- helaena being clairvoyant, rhaenyra seeing visery’s statue, rhaenyra getting cut by the throne, dreamfyre mentioned, faceless men, rhaenyra finally taking initiative (sort of at least)

Jack The Human

decisions we’re … made.. but im still loving it, and at least we’re moving forward (sort of 😅🥴)

FutureJason on the shitter with a longway halfchub

Spoiler Zone talk, do not read if you don't want spoilers: I feel like the knighting scene for the dragonseeds will play into their decision with Ormund. Ulf charged with being brave, Hugh charged with being just, and Addam being charged to defend the young and innocent. Ulf stands up against Daemon, Hugh becomes a judge and maybe Addam sees what happens to Daeron and refuses.

Kevin Stoddard

I know this isn’t the what’s gonna happen, but I really like idea that Tyland sent all of the Iron Thrones money to Braavos and the Sealord thought “Huh, I guess they must be spending this all on a lot of Faceless Men”

Alexei

Also I would like to add that both my predictions from 2024 (rhaena takes over nettles, and Rhaenyra portrayal flips to antagonist of show) are still looking fairly on par

Brad Graham

Why did that assassin have to call Daeron "the daring " to Daemond. He got that nickname in an earlier battle that he hasn't appeared in. Just like the previous episode when Ormund mentions Bitter Bridge which hasn't happened yet.

Charlie

3:04:00 yeah I think you’ve changed my mind on Baella and Alyn. It came off extremely underbaked but if you read it as an “any port in the storm” situation it really highlights both of their humanity through war.

Make Money with Mace

Will this be the week where Schwift and Glidus admit that the writing is complete dogshit?

sophia 🌿

“Schwift, they’re in love with each other” can be the new “Harold they’re lesbians”

Jack The Human

tbh after just re reading fire & blood…. there are two things that if they butcher will make this show irredeemable to me. the battle of the gods eye and the storming of the dragon pit. I have hope… but 🥴

Jack The Human

just rewatching Season 1 and when rhaenyra is walking thru flea bottom after sneaking out she runs into a blind woman who says “ would you like to see your death child?” then it cuts to a dragon breathing fire 😭

Stinkbug

Once we have two years to think about this season I suspect that it will not age particularly well. Lots of things happening which do not hold up to scrutiny.
