Alt Shift X is still on hiatus in July – the Patreon is paused so no one will be charged. But I’m catching up on some TV and books for potential videos.

Dark is a German mystery-drama with an intricate plot to untangle. Could make for a great video – “Dark Season 2 Explained”, maybe?

Watchmen is a classic comic series by Alan Moore. It has some fascinating characters, each with distinct philosophies and worldviews. HBO is making a sequel TV series, so now’s a good time for an analysis of the original comic.

Childhood’s End is an old Arthur C. Clarke sci-fi novel about aliens taking over Earth. It’s not particularly timely right now, but it’s a cool story (with a mediocre SyFy TV adaptation), and might work as an Alt Shift Podcast episode or something.

His Dark Materials and Dune adaptations are also on the horizon. And we could do more of The Expanse?

And we haven’t forgotten about Game of Thrones. When Alt Shift X returns, we’ll hold a Patron vote to choose an ASOIAF video topic – something like Euron Greyjoy’s eldritch apocalypse, the hooded man of Winterfell, Marwyn the Mage… The Winds of Winter hasn’t come yet, but there’s still lots to cover in ASOIAF.

So which series are you most interested in? What do you want next from Alt Shift X?

Thanks

ASX

More Stranger Things content would be awesome ! Season 2 and/or Season 3 analysis videos would be nice. I also think Attack on Titan could be great for your channel. It's an excellent anime, and I think a video on the recently released and brilliant Season 3 would be great. There are a lot of parallels to Game of Thrones, which largely inspired the author of the Attack on Titan manga. There's a deep and complex lore, with plenty of mystery, politics, intrigue, and all that good stuff. And Season 4 will be the final season (airing in 2020), so this wouldn't really be a long term commitment. But I think it's a brilliant fantasy world which is definitely worth analyzing.

Bikes, Books & Buildings

I'm currently reading Dune for the first time, in anticipation of the adaptation, so I'd love some videos on that. His Dark Materials is a childhood favorite, and that would be much appreciated too.

Bikes, Books & Buildings

Also: Please consider The Third Policeman by Flann O'Brien for the podcast. I think it would be really up your alley, and while its not a short story per se, but a novel easily read in a single sitting.

Humblebee

I dont care about anything other than GoT (from that list) - still so sad about the awful last season... hope there will be more books at some point :'(

Vibeke Westfal-Larsen

Please please please do Dark! Such a great show. And the explanations out there aren't that good, and they aren't voiced properly!😄😄😄.

Bassem ElSahhar

Please do Dark! This is just what IT has been missing! At least 1 explained video for the season

Kellan

I'm also in favor of more ASOIAF videos, but from what people here are saying those are all good options as well. I liked the watchmen movie and would like to know more about the universe.

Christina Englund

I’m reading N.K. Jemisin’s Broken Earth trilogy and finding it complex and compelling. Could be an interesting series to invesigate, but there’s no adaptation as yet to provide visuals. What about American Gods?

Micko Francy

Harry Turtledoves alternate history series is pretty epic and video worthy!

WarmSeoulLights

I think videos on Mr Robot would be really unique and exciting to see. The show is just wrapping up the filming for its 4th (and last) season, which means all the speculation and the fan theories are at their peak! Not to give too much away but theories about Angela's mental health state or White Rose's plan would make for a really interesting video explanation. ☺️

Liam Argent

I'd honestly love more videos on The Expanse in preparation for it's 4th Season on Amazon. I watched whole show in a week last month and was shocked by how brilliant it was.

DeadXDove

I'm one of your German fans and here in Germany we are totally proud of DARK. It is really a very good German production and much better than what we get on German TV. I would be really happy if there would be more videos to this series.

Matthew Tufariello

Duuuuude if you did the original Watchmen comic that would be sick. You can watch like an animated version of the comic for anyone interested it runs deep that comic. Also more ASOIAF as well. Thanks

Jason D.

Please do Dark! I tried looking on youtube and couldn't find any decent explained videos.

Alice Cottrell

If you do Dark, I'd like to see season 1 done too. Not just season 2. I haven't found anything close to an AltShiftX quality video out there on season 1 so far. P.S. loved Schwift's first impression vid.

K3nny

Dark!

K3nny

also stranger things?

ChthonicPuck

I'm surprised Mr. Robot isn't on this list. I think that's the perfect show to breakdown. Also, I would love character deep dives for The Expanse, the same way GOT characters are covered.

Carlo

Please do Dark

Carlo

Also strictly asoiaf vids that don’t even mention the show

a bit cheeky

Vikings! And more ASOIAF theories/connections!!

Quark Twain

I've been wondering what that Alt Shwift X guy really thinks about the final GoT season...

Krista Zaragoza

Not sure if you do anime’s but Evangelion is a short and sweet but very dark and twisted

Max Haland

I would love His Dark Materials when it comes out

Chris Will

More ASOIAF content would be awesome. Marwyn, Euron, Dorne (specifically history or current plots related to the Martell family), Arthur Dayne etc. Dune would be good as well. It is a series i am getting into with GoT on pause until the next book and/or the prequel show. The Expanse is interesting as well.

Lexi Bruner

Definitely more of Dark and the Expanse, please! Also, what about a Neal Stephenson book?

Ragnar

His Dark Materials is interesting... and The Expanse! Best scifi in over a decade.

Ruggero

I think Dark is cool, but it's simply very timely. Something like Dune has a ton more depth, between all the books, the David Lynch movie, the mini-series, Jodorowsky's Dune, and the upcoming Villeneuve new adaptation (which after the miracle done with Blade Runner has everyone's hopes up). So if I had to pick I'd do Dune in the long run.

Paul Matthijsse

Dark might be a good idea. Haven't watched it yet, but my daughter gave her recommendation. Maybe ASX will help me to follow through. ;)

jman117

I'd love to see more content for the Expanse and ASOIAF. Keep up the great work!

Reed Bennett

Love me some Dark. It would be great to delve into that after the crazy second season. Obviously Dune is also rich for discussion and analysis.

Jeffrey Boerst

I'd really dig you digging more into The Expanse (so to speak), including the printed material! Watchmen is at the top of my list, as well! Thanks for all you all do! (...and where is Schwift's 'dis-video' for the end of GoT?...) ;)

The Mad Jay Woman

These are all great subjects, but please show DARK some love - more people need to pay attention to that brilliant show

Mihajlo961x

Dark and Watchman for sure!

WarmSeoulLights

I'd love to hear more self-sustained short stories on Alt Shift ZZZ rather than the 1st chapters of various books - I know some people just like to listen to the narration to fall asleep but I love actually listening to short stories being read! So more of that would be very much appreciated ☺️

Duncan

More on ASOIAF please!

stazgirl

Would love to hear your take on Dark. We were actually commenting in our house on how we wished you'd made a Dark Season 1 explained video so we could watch it to recap before we watched season 2!

Jesus Tagle Jr

Dark Season 1 is great, Dark Season 2 gets a little more wild, but high Sci fi time travel is interesting when done right but it is the characters themselves giving such grounded performances that make the show, and its a mystery story obviously and the superb interactions between the multiple families is a great subverting of expectations of this small town with secrets.

Why Not Zoidberg?

Honestly, I'm most stoked about ASX Podcast. I'd love to see it expand beyond just short stories too, kinda like the unscripted version of your show/movie breakdowns.

Daniel Meursault

Definitely Dark! I think it’s one of Netflix’s best shows that’s very underrated and needs much more attention and analysis given to it.

Nick Vance

IMO: Dark and His Dark Materials seem like great choices. Watchmen is a maybe; if the TV show is good it's worth revisiting. Other stuff sounds like more off-the cuff podcast topics.

Daniel Hunter

+1 on Dark and Watchmen. Also check out The Last Kingdom. It's been scratching my GoT itch.

ms3k

Would be happy to have a "Dark S1+2 Explained" video!

Amelie Ruppert

First choice Watchmen, second choice Dark. Let me know if you need an opinion on Dark's dubbing ^_^ (I'm a native German speaker)

Isaac Jonas

I'd love to see your take on the Watchmen, but that's been dissected and examined so many times, I'm not sure how valuable it'd be. I like your ideas for future asoiaf content, but I'd really love to see just a GoT wrap up video from you. Your thoughts on the final season, the series overall, and especially what you think how things ended in the show means for characters/events in the books. You're much more objective about D&D's work than the average hardcore fan (in my experience at least), and I think you have a great feel for GRRM's themes and mindset in the books. I know a wrap up is a vague topic, but it's something I'd love to see from you

Rikke Holmberg

Of the things mentioned here, I'm definitely most excited for the podcast and more asoiaf videos. None of those other series sound terribly interesting to me. I'd love to see you (or that Schwift dude) do something with Hitchikers Guide :)

Vivus

I'd vote for Dark. The show is perfect for a deep analysis. At the moment it is maybe not as popular as Stranger Things for example, but that can change. Maybe you can help there ;) I also really like your first approach to it on the Alt Schwift X channel.

Koi Callisto

I've just finished a Watchmen reread and was thinking "I'd love an Alt Shift X analysis". I bet there's a whole bunch of themes and symbolism my dumb arse completely misses every time I read it.

Zorion Qyrax

Perhaps start reading The Witcher series in preparation for covering the Netflix adaptation airing in December?

Michelle Kaylan

Of those mentioned, I crave your take on DUNE-CHILDREN OF DUNE, HIS DARK MATERIALS/THE BOOK OF DUST, and WATCHMEN

Michelle Kaylan

And....do you watch LEGION? Noah Hawley’s work is stunning.

Adam Kirkman

Watchmen and His Dark Materials would be cool. Not all that interested in Dark or the Expanse.

Patrick

Dark would be amazing!!

Maik, Daune, Ferthiss & Associates

An AltShiftX insight into Dark would be really nice. That’s where I’d put my vote. In order to start season 2 the other night, i was looking for a quick overview of season 1 on YouTube — a who’s who kind of recap. I began watching three or four different videos and they were all pretty terrible, so I just plunged into season 2 with my faded memories of season 1. I think Dark is exactly the kind of show AltShiftX is so good at taking apart, and I think the show deserves a good taking apart.

Nikolaj Pilgaard Petersen

Dark is an excellent series - both in terms of mystery/plot and the philosophical aspects, such as determinism vs. free will, meaning, good vs. evil, etc. Hopefully you will do a video or two on it! :) Thanks for your great work - and hope you enjoy a well deserved holiday :)

Jaz

Honestly I think your perspective/breakdown on Dark would be fantastic, it's an extremely complicated show getting even more complex in season 2. Videos explaining both seasons and your predictions for the next would be brilliant!

Benjamin Jennings

Not sure what the interest to this audience an old anime would be but I just watched Neon Genesis Evangelion and there is a lot I think would be interesting to delve into.

Jasmine Jackson

Hello there! More content about The Expanse would be so awesome.

Jonas

Dark is made for being analysed by ASX
