No more cleganebowl? :(

Kristopher Patke

People are hyping a change of Destination for the Hype train. All Aboard heading North or a Wedding.

Faye Harrison

I will forgive the show writers anything after the line "I prefer chicken". Thought I would die laughing.

Ellen Nyarko

Looking forward to your recap as I'm starting to get quite disappointed in the show. Someone please explain how Arya is alive, Borne Identity-ing, jumping off buildings and sh*t? Lazy lazy storytelling.

Kelly Theobald

Agreed. The characters all have a weird immunity this season. Like when Theon and Sansa escaped Winterfell, they waded through a frozen river and then continued right on. They would have quickly died of hypothermia and frostbite. Was so annoyed by that. But this whole Arya sequence, it's way beyond your normal "suspension of disbelief" (your willingness to suspend logic for the sake of the story). That chase scene was completely outrageous...suspiciously outrageous. So I hope it gets explained, but my hopes aren't too high =/

In the books the Starks and Northmen in general are somewhat impervious to cold (Stannis's march to Winterfell explains some of this) so I am okay with that one. Also don't forget Arya's first practice was to chase down feral cats in the Red Keep and that was before she had upper-level training from the deadliest most capable assassins in all of the Known World. To me all the 'Borne Identity-ing, jumping off buildings and sh*t.' is not only explainable it is somewhat expected. So I am okay with that one also. What I have trouble with is being stabbed multiple times (a la John Snow) in the gut and surviving it, let alone doing all of those acrobatics. As I remember plenty of other people get stabbed in the gut (Talisa Stark and the guy who the Hound showed her 'where the heart is' come to mind) and it is a death sentence. Shift X's theory would have played out much better in my mind.

Ellen Nyarko

I sure hope so. I guess I'll wait to see what happens

Kelly Theobald

Eh, I'm not sold on the "impervious to cold" argument. Would Theon count as a Northman anyway? But I totally agree about Arya--I could believe that chase scene no problem, it's just the fact that she did it with her stomach supposedly in shreds. No pain, not a lot of blood... But I was also wondering how she didn't break her legs on that jump, and that makes sense with the Red Keep training and all, so that's interesting! But yeah, wasted story potential. I'm also upset we didn't get to see Arya call out the waif on what a terrible faceless man she was. The irony was so cool, and it didn't go anywhere

Karen Davis

I have totally lost my respect for the tv series. Arya should be dead. You can't just jump out of bed after multiple stabs, including the last one twisting into her gut. The show is officially fried. Basic story, dull writing, and no more surprise story twists. I'm so bummed.

Lydia Quinn

I love the show, really love it. And for all us watching here, episode 8 flew by in a flash like all the others this season. I was disappointed however that your theory with Arya being H'gar in disquise and killing the waif didn't happen. It would have been a much better twist. Truthfully, although the candle was cool, there were a lot of elements in Arya's storyline that didn't fit or seem realistic even for a fantasy show. The waif isn't supposed to be care who she kills and yet she's been wanting to kill Arya since the day she arrived. If H'gar was really wise wouldn't he have seen that the waif never attained the "no one" status either? The hound returning was definitely a plus.

Thanks for all of your hard work getting these videos out!

Casimirrx

I agree with you about Theon, I had meant to qualify my remarks regarding him. With that said it is fairly well accepted and mentioned in the books that Starks and Northman are at least resistant to cold, just as Targaryens are resistant to heat. If you search 'starks resistance to cold' there is lots more info on it.

What irked me most was the whole Riverrun surrender thing. Who's castle is it anyway? Does it rightfully belong to Edmure or to the Freys? And if either of these are the true owners then why the hell that captain who let Edmure in helped Blackfysh to take it in the first place?

Casimirrx

Depends what you mean by 'rightfully'. Riverrun has always been the seat of House Tully. The IronThrone made the secret plot to have the Freys murder Rob etc at the Red Wedding. The Iron Throne promised Riverrun to the Freys as payment for killing everyone. Of course House Tully was not happy with that arrangment because the castle is/was theirs. Edmond Tully became Lord of Riverrun after Holster Tully. Holster Tully was the father of Edmure, Catelyn and Lysa and the older brother of The Blackfish. This article spells it all out nicely. http://collider.com/game-of-thrones-season-6-explained/#house-frey-twins

A Thousand Nialls.

I'm growing disillusioned with not only the season, but the show in general. Alt-Shift-X's videos have become the highlight, and they largely underscore the show's failures in their intelligence and thoughtful presentation. Doesn't bode well, imo.

Paul Vahur

I know the backstory there, it just that felt strange that the captain did not understand the politics of the situation and surrendered the castle that easily. Of course there could have been lot of going on that wasn't shown - he might have come to the situation with some doubts and followed the best available Tully, Blackfish and then was obedient to his actual lord.

John Dykes (@thismapiswrong)

Surely something needs to come of this whole Riverrun story, otherwise it's been meaningless filler with an offscreen death for an awesome character? Very disappointing.

June Coates

I agree. The purpose of this scenario in the books seemed to be to give Jamie a good character arc. In the TV show, Jamie's sojourn in the Riverlands has only served to allow him to reiterate his dedication to Cersei and their frankly weird and toxic relationship. I think the DD's are saving up the moment when Jamie discovers Cersei's affair with Lancel for a big dramatic reveal. It might have good screen impact, but most likely Jamie will react vengefully and lash out, maybe killing Cersei. This is not a character arc. This is a retrograde step for Jamie, further into hatred and bitterness. It might not pan out like this but I really feel that Jamie is poorly served by the TV show.

Jeffrey Stanlis

I think she drank from the well in the House of Black and White. The Many-Faced God smiled on her, and healed her, as we were told if the Many-Faced God likes you the water can heal. That matches what H'gar said. She passed her test, the test being to gain favor with the Many-Faced God.
