What did you think of the premiere episode of HOT D? Here's the livestream discussion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTrt37zrDXk

We're doing a livestream like this every Sunday at ~10:15pm Eastern time.

And now we're working on an Explained video to summarise and analyse the episode – I expect it'll be done sometime around Thursday or Friday.

Thanks for your support!

Really good... 🥰 I retain hopes that they won't do us dirty in the end. Also my decision NOT to have children: 100% reaffirmed! (It was pretty firm already.) Your live stream after was great! Definitely called out some things I would have glossed over the first time around! 🔥🐉🤗

I'm really excited for the show, I love all the lore of F&B already so I'm easily won over lol. But like you were saying in the stream I like a lot of the additions/characterizations they're making (maybe the Aegon prophecy aside) and excited to see where it goes!

I missed the livestreams during Season 8, so I’m happy to finally catch them in real-time 😊 HOTD had more of a dark fairytale feel to it than a medieval fantasy show, in my opinion. I can see what critics were getting at when they said that it needs more comedic relief. Not eunuch jokes, obviously, but something more akin to a show like Six Feet Under, which had very heavy subject matter (a family-run funeral home) but balanced it with dark humor. Otherwise it starts to feel too dreary and self-serious. I’m not a big fan of Jaehaerys I, but I feel compelled to defend him a little. As you mentioned, the Faith of the Seven is based on Roman Catholicism. In the Catholic faith, it’s believed that sex is purely for reproduction and that if a woman conceives, it’s because God willed it. So when Jaehaerys said “the Gods may not be done with us yet,” what he was saying was that he and Alysanne would continue to have sex as normal, and if she conceived again, that was by the Seven’s design. Alysanne, who was said to have been quite devout, presumably did not believe in using moon tea.

As a recovering Catholic I can say, we do have a delightful way of doing whatever questionable thing we want to do and calling it "God's will" when it's convenient. 🤣

Loved the episode! And really appreciated your live stream. I think you already answered most of my questions in the stream, but: -I had no idea what was going on in the tournament / what was going on with the Dornish guy winning / I agree, I was confused by all the murder / and I’m wondering what you think about Damon doing that horse thing where he tripped the horse/cheated his way through… would that not be against the rules?? And Rhaenyra seemed totally cool with it?!? -I’m curious about Rhaenyra’s age. I thought she was meant to be a young woman, but she gives me teenager vibes, especially when the counsel kept calling her “girl” They set up the drama very well, and I’m very excited to see where this goes!

I suppose I’m lapsed. I wasn’t personally raised to believe that sex was just for reproduction and birth control was off-limits, but that’s definitely the traditional view of the Catholic Church. Given that Jaehaerys and Alysanne were both said to have been religious, it makes sense that they’d see conception as something that was out of their hands. Alysanne had no problem telling her husband to screw himself and leave him for years at a time; I doubt she’d have any problem with telling him that she didn’t want any more children.

Any chance to get an audio feed so we can download it offline??

My question about it is how awkward would it be watch with family and or not that close friends? I like boobies so much, but I still remember the awkwardness of showing got s1 e1 to my parents. Now I have a unique opportunity to bring my newish friends and roommates who are not that familiar with game of thrones to watch it weekly with me and I don't want to make the movie night too awkward.

Enjoyed the livestream. I was scarred after the final few years of GoT, so I’ve deliberately kept my anticipation low for this series. But it was SO nice to be back in Westeros again! It was a hole in my viewing that needed filling. I felt like some of the ‘lore’ references were slightly shoe-horned into place - for example the bath scene - but I can live with that. The Aegon prophesy was the biggest of those, but I didn’t actually mind it either. It raises an interesting question of when a story or prophesy is passed down verbally from lord/king to heir. What happens if the king and heir die at nearly the same time? Is the prophesy not passed on? I can imagine part of this series will be about how Aegon’s prophesy is lost as one of the worst outcomes of the DotD. Come to think of it, is this very different to “There must always be a Stark in Winterfell”? We don’t know why there must always be a Stark in Winterfell, but speculation is it’s about the WW. Was this lost when Lord Rickard and Brandon died together, or some other time in the last 8,000 years?
