The Real Jon Snow video is done! This is the biggest Alt Shift X video ever.It explores Jon’s full story in the published books, and speculates on how his story might end. I think this video captures the meaning of ASOIAF better than any other Alt Shift X video. I hope you enjoy it!

This is an early video release for Patreon supporters. If you see any visual glitches or errors, please let me know!

Believe it or not, we still have lots more to say about Jon Snow – some content was cut from this video to keep it streamlined. So after the video is released publicly, we’ll do a livestream to talk through the extra content and answer live questions.

This video features three new commissioned illustrations, made especially for The Real Jon Snow. Bella Bergolts made the main Jon portrait, with variations showing his scars and white hair. Sanrixian illustrated Jon’s spooky dream in the crypts. And Ertaç Altınöz made the spectacular illustration of Jon with Rhaegal. You’ll see other artist credits on-screen.

We also used some new AI image tools for this video, like Midjourney, Photoshop Firefly and Topaz AI. I try to be thoughtful and subtle with AI – using it mostly to edit and expand images, not to replace human art.

We used a different video editing program for this video – Premiere instead of After Effects. It was a difficult process to develop a new editing workflow. But this’ll make it quicker to edit videos in the future. The final video should look mostly the same as usual. But if you notice any differences, feedback is welcome :)

As part of the research for this video, we delved into topics like the ancient myths of Westeros, Tuf Voyaging, Benjen, Mance, Thenns… So we’ve got a bunch more videos already half-finished.

Also, Dune Part Two came out – so we’ll do a livestream to discuss first impressions, and to compare the movie to the book. I have a lot to say about Dune Part Two. And we’ve got several Dune videos half-finished – the Philosophy of Dune, Top Fighters of Dune… I also want to make The Real Dune Part Two, once the Dune Part Two Bluray comes out.

House of the Dragon Season 2 is also on the horizon…

So the Real Jon Snow was a massive project. Now that it’s done, I’m excited to complete and release those half-finished videos. Between ASOIAF, HOT D, and Dune, there's lots of cool stuff ahead.

This video was funded by you, the Patrons. Thanks so much for making this possible!

Jon Snow is not who you think he is. Who is the real Jon Snow in the ASOIAF books, compared to the Game of Thrones TV show? How will Jon’s story end in The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring? Christin

Thank you! You're awesome! Can't wait to watch it! Also, Dune: Part Two was amazing. Saw it on Tuesday, and going back for a second watch tomorrow. Looking forward to the livestream ❤️

Angelica V.

😩😩😩💯💯💯

Elliot

Psyched! Been following all the livestreams about this one and excited to see it all come together. I wonder if that profligate alt schwift X has been working on a Jon Snow rap for the last 2 years too

James Brockway

can’t wait to watch! have been looking forward to this for a long time!!

nooblex

Jose Alberto

2 hour content about Jon 🤝🤝🤝

Jackson Uyl

Love this, even tho I am a season 4 castle black plot defender

Ngatendwe Katsande

Amazing job Jon is my favorite character so loved this

wTurbo

Will there be any Wallpapers from this vid. Because if so I’ll definitely have to upgrade and get them!

Mandi Mateer

This was amazing! You have my undying love for doing manual captions. I'm hard-of-hearing, and auto-generated ones are the absolute worst. You perfectly articulated the complexity of Jon's character in ASOIAF that the show entirely lacked. Jon was likable in GOT, but one-dimensional in comparison to the novels (which was nearly universally true for all the characters in the show). I've referred so many ASOIAF readers to this channel, and I can not wait for them to see this masterpiece of a video!

Dick Wolf

Excellent stuff Shift!

Rachel Wheatman

Congrats!! Been so fun watching this develop on the livestreams up to the final vid

Thomas

Subscribed mostly to get this video early, but also wanted to express how much it means to me and others that you put so much effort and time into your videos, keep doing what you are doing 👍

Alt Shift X

Yup, we'll post those in the days ahead!

Amber

subbed because i couldn't wait a week

RYCBAR2013

Hook it to my veins!

Leonard Oechtering

Awesome video shifty! Its been a long time but worth the wait. The parcour sequence killed me :D

elizabeth whealen

This was wonderful. I’m a new patron, and this was brilliant, and quite moving, too. Glad to have subbed.

dylan

Definitely worth the wait. Fantastic video, really enjoyed the new editing style. 11/10

Dylan Wilding

Hi ASX, new patron here from France, just subbed to watch this video early. I just wanted to thank you for putting all this effort into making your videos. I hope you are proud of this art form you have made, a video I will be watching over and over like the Tyrion video and all your other videos. GoT/ASOIAF is a piece of art and media that is worth sinking time into, to experience over and over, the fruit of a great writer's effort and time who sunk countless hours into crafting something truly special, and your videos are the same. You create "content" on YouTube, but you are making videos that are truly incredible and insightful, and help me develop my media literacy, and help me develop as a person as I introspect a little, hearing you talking about the flaws of characters and the conflict they go through. I am incredibly grateful for creators such as yourself. Again, I hope you are deeply proud of putting out these videos, and I'm glad I get to support you, even in small ways. You are creating something truly special, unique. I wish you all the best in life. Thank you.

Matthew

This was absolutely phenomenal. I got bored recently and wrote an ending for the series, which turned out being suspiciously similar to some of the ideas you had here. I couldn’t wait a week, so I subbed. Most definitely worth it. Also, I beg you, PLEASE do a “Real Daenerys” video. It would complete the three heads of the dragon.

Andrew Woods

such a great video. I was at dinner with friends and couldn't stop talking about your channel and getting to watch this when I got home. I talked about this video more than Dune Part 2. We might never get the conclusion of ASOIAF from Martin but the community that exists and the creators who continue to publsh excellent work like this is a nice consolation prize.

Rhinestone Cowspunk

Just watched Dune 2 and genuinely feel comforted to watch this and be back in a universe with marginally less religious and Eldritch horrors!

Tom

Subbed for this, couldn't wait. Keep up the good work!

Ryen Pacino

Euron on his way to old town: 👀

pasta tomat

Haha same. Only time i really used patreon

Nizar Alsaidi

Hey ASX, I watched the whole video and loved it, but I have some questions to ask you about. Since Areo and Obara are sent on a mission to kill Gerold slimy emo Darkstar, how do you think the Daynes will play a important part in Jon's true identity ?

Alt Shift X

Thanks for the kind and thoughtful words, Dylan! ASOIAF is such a meaningful series, and I'm grateful that I get to help people explore it. :)

Alt Shift X

Yeah, I'd love to make a Real Daenerys video. A Real Stannis, Real Theon, Real Sansa, Real Bran would also be amazing. I think we'll hold a Patreon vote to choose the next character, after HOT D S2 and Dune 2.

TARaiderBomb

I’m here waiting to see what Lovecraftian clusterfuck the mad pirate will unleash😈

Dave

You sound a lot like that alt schwift x guy

AdaCrowley

I'm the loser who signs up for patreon to see a video they're eager to see but I'm happy to be here and loving the in depth analysis of our sweet baby emo prince.

Alt Shift X

I imagine Jon might get Dawn after Darkstar dies. Then when Jon is exiled, Jon can give Dawn to Ned Dayne. I plan to discuss Jon's connection to the Daynes in a livestream soon :)

Geo Hu

Thank you so much ASX! I am wondering, after Jon sacrifices Rhaegal and burns the weirwood tree and kills the others, how would that impact Bran and his weirwood network? Does that kill Bran simultaneously as well?

Zyke Geronimo

This is the most high quality asoiaf video I’ve seen, no regrets signing up as a patron as this was more than worth it. Definitely staying.

Rando_Scot

If i understood it, ASX position is "the heart of Winter" is like a corrupted node poisoning the rest of the Weirwood network. who knows, its destruction may give Bran even more power.

Gatlin Grove

thinking about Jon in that cave forever is just so sad ☹️😭

Alt Shift X

Maybe by destroying the Great Other, the corruption or imbalance in the weirwoods will be healed, allowing Bran to bring some peace and order both to the weirwoods and the realm. Or maybe the old gods need to be entirely destroyed, because they're a sinister force manipulating humanity. We can only speculate! I'll discuss this some more in a Jon Snow livestream in the days to come.

Jon Fitzgerald

this jon portrait used throughout and in the thumbnail is really incredible work it really feels like a real person his eyes stare back and meet me in an exchanged look well done to the artist i didnt catch who made it

Jon Fitzgerald

wow what a moving piece of work. thank you alt. it was well worth the wait. who needs an ending when we can dream of spring

Alt Shift X

The Jon portrait is by Bella Bergolts, it was commissioned for this video. She did an amazing job!

Zyke Geronimo

I’m glad to be here! It’s fantastic. The wait was certainly worth it; you delivered phenomenally! All the love to you! Lets just hope GRRM does the same soon(the cope is eternal)☠️

Buff Jesus

Great video alt shift x! Any chance you would potentially make an even more in depth vid on Littlefinger one day?

Johannes Pöyhönen

...so when the real Daenerys? xd just kidding. This was such a long-awaited masterpiece, please take a (short) break - you've earned it!

Derek Anderson

Watched through the whole thing twice now, this was really great. Very interested to know when you're going to do your dune livestream. thanks so much for the hard work.

Christina Ivanowich

Shifty, this is fantastic, well done! I could listen to you talk all day, BTW. It's particularly satisfying listening to you break down Book 5 - the show missed the point so badly! This is the Jon Snow we need and deserve.

Andrew

Damn Shifty, this is an amazing video. I was locked in the entire time. I really love the progression of the portrait of Jon through each book, such a beautiful idea. You deserve all the love man

Alt Shift X

Thanks Devon! Yeah, Littlefinger definitely deserves an in-depth video. Such an interesting character. We'll include him in the next Patron vote to choose a topic :)

Henrik

Yo, at 07:13 you mix up the stamps for the Jon chapters

Alt Shift X

Thanks for the heads up, but those are correct -- the Jon VIII line is of him remembering finding Ghost.

Henrik

Oh ok! Great video btw, actual amazing work!!

Elijah

At 39:51 it looks like you misspelled "Jarl's climbing experts" as "Jarl's climing experts"

Alt Shift X

Thanks! We fixed that for the public version :)

Mykhailo Granik

Finished the video, and it is amazing. Makes me wanna read The Winds and the Dream of Spring so badly. Thank you for your work!

John Merranko

When GRRM inevitably dies before finishing the series, Alt Shift X should be nominated to oversee its completion to ensure lore consistency. I am blown away by the encyclopedic knowledge demonstrated in these videos.
