Oh non spoilery fun fact! They never explained in the anime but Crocodile did have a chance to escape prison (by the loyalty of the other Works) however he chosed to stay and let the others escape.

In regards to Shiki the Golden Lion, he is technically a non-canon character who was made to serve as the antagonist for the One Piece film Strong World, which I would highly recommend you check out at some point.

Little verbal jokes: Noodes are "men", like ra-men etc. Cool guy is "ikemen", so it was fitting the pattern of things ending in -men. Sorry is gomen, which is why the subtitles for the sphinx falling is "sorry, noodles". Saldeath becomes a bit of a joke when pronounced in japanese, because the L character is Ru and the th character is Su, so Saldeath is pronounced Sa-ru-de-su. Saru is Monkey, and Desu is a preposition like "is", so saying his name "I am Saldeath" would be Watashi wa saru desu, which means "I am a monkey".

A lot of folks don't realize how LUCKY Luffy has been throughout these past arcs. Fighting and beating Crocodile was something that really shouldn't have happened, and in fact Luffy lost twice to him. Crocodile and his fruit are exceedingly dangerous and powerful and he knows it. (not to mention luffy only beat Enel b/c of a technicality based on his fruit~). Crocodile, anywhere in the world, has the potential to be a top killer.
