Yessssss

slavicandsapphic

WHOOOOO all my fav reactors checking out this movie lets GO

Latrios (Coen van Haaster)

Was looking forward to this~ Figured it'd be right up your alley as soon as I saw it :p

AnonDex

I have been planning to watch this, now i get to watch it with alicia's reaction

slavicandsapphic

Most unrealistic part abt this movie isnt the demons but Bobby as a manager I do love that they let them eat in this movie, a large diss to the actual industry that thinks starving their idols is the way to go

Trevor Appel

The carbloading scene is basically Alicia right after she gets off her keto diet

Jackie Rollins

Funny enough I recently just heard of the type of behavior your sister does its called "Dry Begging"

REI

One of my favorite guesses about what happened to Rumi's mom from a reactor was that a demon killed her, with them saying "She got clapped by a demon". I'm still like... Well, you're right.

NarumiInoue

Love everything about this movie and the reactions!!!

EDWin qaz

And he was only getting paid 3% while irl they getting most of the cut😂

JPD

I get that Jinu dying is like a good ending probably for the movie and like it makes sense. But I really do hope that if they ever make a sequel, he comes back like as Rumi's sword lmao. Like a Soul Eater type deal, like he just gotta be her sword for a while as like a redemption type thing. Cuz like the Honmoon isn't gold, so presumably demons are still coming out.

SinforGoblinJesusSlobadwhodiedforthosesins

I agree completely about the plot. If this got a second movie, I think it would help the story immemsely! Especially because Sony have shown that they can do good sequels!

Maximor

Have you two thought of reacting Epic the Musical with animatics that are on YouTube? I know Alice watched a couple of the first songs. But I was just wondering. I loved this and hope to see more of both of you collaborating more.

KingofYokai

Dude, this is the plot of the second equestria girls movie.

Mr. Ewok

Fun fact, there's a theory that Jinu's mother and sister survived, and Zoey is their descendant!

Mael Paquette

I love how at the end of the credits you talk about how you feel like this is really high Kpop level music while totally ignoring the fact the backstage was not the VAs but TWICE performing their version of the song 😂

Sam Marsh

Wait, why Zoey specifically?

Bradley Canning

My Preference, but a movie focusing on music as the main concept, compared to Sinners, this was much better

Xeno

Knowing that the movie was supposed to be longer and had stuff cut breaks my heart 😭

Memento Forever

haha after seeing the memes on twitter I knew she would like this

masteroftheassassins

If I may make a suggestion, you should really consider watching Wolf King. Especially considering that one of the werecreatures are Wererats.

Mr. Ewok

Similar facial features and such.

John Knotts

This is making me crave a reaction to the anime Hypnosis Mic. Women take over the world and eliminate all weapons other than rap battles, which now cause explosions (oversimplified summary).

Seraphem

IKR, Huntrix totally gives off "If The Dazzlings weren't evil" vibes.

Shino302

So Rumi’s parents story could be interesting thing to see in a sequel but I don’t think it’s needed for this movie. The whole point is that Rumi was raised to hate demons, raised to be ashamed of that part of herself, leading her to hate herself which only made the shame grow. Only by getting a connection to Jinu and falling for him could lead her to start loving that part of herself too.

Egregore

This is the future that woke liberals(me) want.

CelticLeprechaun

I don't think I've ever disagreed with a person more

Magikltrevr

It's cool how different your ranking of the songs is compared to my own. Gotta love subjectivity. I'd almost put all the songs in reverse order of from what y'all thought. The last song, What It Sounds Like, is the best of the entire movie to me. It just grabs me emotionally in a way the other songs don't.

Faroth

And totally can see Zoey being Sonata or pinkie pie, or both Is like a reverse equestria girls, were the Dazzlings were "the good ones"

Shalune

I love this movie so much! It has such a great and interesting message about shame and identity. The part that felt odd to y'all with Rumi second guessing things while the demons were killing people made perfect sense to me just in a different context. Likewise it felt natural for Rumi not to tell her friends. This whole time Rumi is half demon and is unsure how to see herself and her friends are gleefully writing and singing lyrics about how demons are reprehensible and don't deserve to live. It's like if you're gay and your parents are constantly homophobic around you, of course you're going to avoid telling them. Celine could have benefited from some more screen time but it didn't really bother me because she's simply a bad person. I'm not even sure she ever loved Rumi. She talked about caring for Rumi as an obligation to a friend, not a feeling she felt and was motivated by.

Shalune

Same! I adore What It Sounds Like! <3 My weirdest take (given it's popularity) is that Golden was either the weakest or second weakest song. It's good and I appreciate how it functions as a red herring in the story. But it's just so straight forward compared to everything else except Soda Pop.

Arawn Lightwalker

Why do I want to see Alicia react to Supernatural after watching this?

KingofYokai

I think you're both ignoring the evil mind controlling pop band in the room.

Don't Mind Me Just Passing By

Since you like Jinu so much, I'd recommend watching Business Proposal (if you haven't seen it already). It's a romcom and the main male lead is Jinu (Ann Hyo-seop), it's only 12 episodes and it's really funny. Just a good drama overall.

EliteEdge

This will be my third time watching this movie in 24 hours. Gotta say I loved it! Disney needs to take note. This is how you make a good animated movie!

Leticia

At first, I was a little weirded out that Neko Mikki was more likely to criticize the show than Alicia, but I can't say that these aren't valid points.

Mune_Lite

so i will say i definitely want to see more of rumi's parent's relationship, however i think it makes total sense that rumi wouldn't know\be interested in learning about her parents, that's literally the shame she's running away from the entire movie, i think her trying to learn more in a sequel makes a lot more sense

Mune_Lite

like i doubt Saline would be willing to refer to her father as anything other than a monster

Zorndyke

Or, more accurately, if the Dazzlings were a boy band.

Zorndyke

The movie is full of sneak disses at the exploitive parts of the Kpop industry, to be honest.

DiabloAnos

Have to fully agree. The boys are hotter in their demon forms.

PokéBoyBB

I'm sure other people have mentioned it, but all the Saja Boys besides Jinu are representations of how fans treat male KPOP stars. Baby Saja is how fans infantilize male stars. Romance Saja is how people romanticize and ship these real men. Abby Saja is how these men are sexualized and thought of like objects, and Mystery shows how they aren't allowed any privacy in their lives. It's really cool subtle stuff!

PokéBoyBB

I can't blame Selene too harshly. She was taught that all demons were evil and that she was to never show her faults and fears from a young age. Rumi by all accounts goes against everything the hunters stand for via her very existence. Selene didn't know how to deal with that, but tried her best anyway because that's her best friend's daughter. Her best just wasn't enough because even if she loved the human half of Rumi, her demon half was also a part of her.

GlamourGhost

@1:44:55 "This is what it sounds like!" "We can do this all night!" Icona Pop We do not resent performers for kayfabe, Alicia! They told a story! It was compelling! And we don't know how much of it was taken from reality! They might have had a break up behind the scenes and then used that experience to write this event for us!

dan1023ghi

Its not in the movie but one of the promotional pieces gave us the names for the bird and tiger. the bird is Susie and the tiger's name is Derpy. Its such a good name for him. we're also def getting a sequel at some point. the creator has said she has so much more to show us from this world

snxwykyunnn

random ahh liza koshy mention as the host 😭😭😭

Kaz

I heard about this movie for a while and thought it was a stupid idea, but then I hear the music and think it's actually worth it just for the soundtrack alone

Dorran

I honestly really loved this movie, personally. Not that it is perfect, but... sod it, when you are in the moment with it, the songs hit really well XD I will say, though, Selene is... _kind_ of directly responsible for a lot of what goes on in this movie. She never unconditionally loved Rumi, the way that a parent figure should... and my theory is that the reasons the marks grew so much on Rumi is because of how much Selene... basically infused her with shame over the fact that her father was a demon. "Cover up the marks! Our faults and fears must never be seen!" It's one thing to come into that kind of an approach to life later on, but when you are raised with that kind of upbringing... particularly by someone who, on a very fundamental level sees you as a mistake... that is going to REALLY wreck your sense of self-worth. It feels like the old Honmoon was built on hate and shame, or at least had those very heavily incorporated into it by Rumi's time. The implication then is that... it was made using the things that made Gwi-ma stronger. That is why it failed, and that is why it needed to be started anew. I do get the feeling that the original hunters didn't really work to understand the demons, they just treated them as enemies to be destroyed, and nothing else. Now, with Rumi's Honmoon, they have the potential to have compassion and understanding woven into it.

Librainiac

as someone who's bi and enby and related a lot to Rumi, plus growing up in a heavily religious household, it's fuck Celine til the day I die

Arashi

You know Alicia, you missed an excellent opportunity. When Jinu was blocking the flame and Mikki was complaining, you should have said 'Hey come on, let my boy cook!' :D

Zorndyke

I agree about What It Sounds Like being best. My ranking of the songs, weakest to best would be: 7) Soda Pop, 6) Takedown, 5) Golden, 4) Free, 3) How It's Done, 2) Your Idol, and 1) What It Sounds Like.

Honor Rosenfeld

While Soda Pop seems simple it's actually pretty dark. The soda is a metaphor for the fans' souls. Some of the lyrics that best show this are, "looking like snacks," "take a big bite, want another bite yeah," "I need you to fill me up," and "I'm empty, you feed me." The song and the visuals are all cutesy and saccharine so the Saja boys can lure in their victims. Compare this to Your Idol. At this point the Saja Boys have basically won so they don't need the smokescreen of their sweet nice boys image anymore. The song is aggressive and seductive, they show their true demon forms and they're much more blatant with their intentions, "You gave me your heart, now I'm hear for your soul." While I do think Your Idol is the better song I love both and I think Soda Pop was a perfect way to both introduce the boys and subtly hint at their true insidious goal.

Harnson

This was supposed to be a 3 hour movie. With a Rumi/Jinu aquarium date scene. AQUARIUM DATE!! NETFLIX, LET THESE PEOPLE COOK 😭

Magikltrevr

I think if I were to put them in order, it would be 7) Soda Pop, 6) Free, 5) Takedown, 4) Your Idol, 3) Golden, 2) How It's Done, 1) What It Sounds Like.

kissatoaster

directors apparently confirmed that Seline killed her by accident :)

Baron Salt

I was also confused as to why they had Rumi still be attracted to Juno after the train scene until I put it into perspective. Juno is the only one who she can be Rumi around. Yes she has her friends who she loves dearly, but at the time she couldn't tell them her darkest secret for fear of rejection. Juno knew that secret and not only accepted her despite it, but he also helped her understand a part of herself she was never allowed to explore. As toxic as their situation may have been, with him is the only time she doesn't feel that pressure to hide herself and her marks. Growing up as a deeply repressed person, once you find a person who's more accepting of you than those you grew up around you tend to latch on and ignore all the red flags they come with. It's a sad but very common tale. I've been victim to this and even when you know it's a bad situation, you have a hard time letting it go.

T

Movie apparently had 40 minutes cut which would've fleshed it out more but Netflix didn't want it being that long

Cyber

i agree, rumi's not feeling her full self around her friends (because of what we she was told to do: hide it all), but with jinu she's able to be herself (but for the wrong reasons). and it makes perfect sense plot wise

Cyber

I hope they make a prequel/sequel combination. I was thinking of some beats to fill the gaps of this show's "lore" and here's what i came up with : I kinda want the sequel to be a dual prequel/sequel. It would start with a “where are they now” moment for Huntrix, showing the aftermath of their last battle. But then the story shifts into a prequel, diving into the origins of the Sunshine Sisters—their rise, their bond, and how it all fell apart. Then we jump back to the present: Huntrix, Celine, and a new threat—the Demon King, plotting his revenge, resurrecting corrupted souls for one final fight. Remember, at the end of the last movie, it wasn’t a Golden Honmoon they created—it was just a new one that now has to be maintained. That fragile balance leaves room for darkness to resurface. In the sequel's present-day storyline, we discover that everyone who was corrupted or died without embracing their shame is now trapped by the Demon King—including Rumi’s mom. She’s still dead (there needs to be finality), but something shifts: her soul starts surfacing, and Celine and Rumi uncover the truth. Turns out, Rumi’s mom didn’t die by accident. She tried to save Rumi. And Celine—she had to kill both of Rumi’s parents. She’s carried that shame ever since, denying herself the right to feel anything. That’s why she’s cold, why she can’t face herself. Only when Rumi and her mother confront it head-on does the healing begin. I could also see Bobby, the manager, retiring—or even dying. His absence creates instability. There's no one who clicks with the trio the way he did, and the fear of flaming out or breaking up starts to fester. That’s when Rumi’s mom resurfaces. But not as herself. She’s now leading a rival band—an intentional antithesis to the Sunshine Sisters. Maybe they’re called the Moonshade Mothers, Shadow Sisters, or Crescent Coven. Dark, demonic, graceful. The twist? She has no memory of Rumi. This shatters Rumi: “Why doesn’t she remember me? Why doesn’t she love me?” That breakdown forces Celine to finally reveal everything—her role in the past, the burden she’s carried, and the truth about Rumi’s mom’s sacrifice. And then, the three are united in a song. A song that captures each of their truths: “The lost one who has forgotten — herself. (Rumi’s mom)” “The lost one who was forgotten — by the world. (Celine)” “And the lost one who tried to forget her loss… and almost lost herself.” (Rumi) This becomes the emotional climax. Rumi accepts her mother is truly gone, and sets her soul free. Her mom remembers her love and finds peace. And Celine? She realizes she didn’t just keep a promise—she became Rumi’s found family, her second mom. By the end, Celine stops pretending to be the perfect, corporate, shame-ridden version of herself. She finally breathes. And with Bobby gone, Celine becomes Huntrix’s new manager—the only one besides him who truly understands them. She doesn’t try to hide their flaws. She trains and guides them through them, making them stronger as hunters and idols. I think this would make an amazing sequel—full of heart, pain, redemption, and music that heals.

Z Assassin14

to be fair, this movie was originally supposed to be almost 3hrs long but Netflix made them shorten it

UndeadNovaKing 0

1:40:49 ok who the fuck sang this part. IDK why, but they sounded like MGK. I need answers please. The tiger is the best part of the movie 🤣😂🤣😂 What if they do a trilogy like httyd. We'll get partial information throughout the movies 😂🤣😂🤣

Faroth

gotta love the reference of the mother/tutor figure saying that she does love her as long as she hide who she is and that they would fix her and then she would fully love her. That reference is something that hits hard for a lot of people on different ways. Is like for neurodivergent or lgbtq people who's aprents went: we do love you... as long as you act "normal" and dont say anything about yourself, otherwise, fix that and then we would love youa gain Rumi saying that she is fine with the Honmoon being broken to make a new one is kinda like that: get rid of old traditions that hurt people, make new traditions, show the world that they can do better that just "respect the old values adn old traditions" since that way of living only supress and hurt some people jsut so old people can keep their livestyle... times change, people change, so change the ways too It kinda remind me to Eda's mom (owl house) saying she would FIX her child and dont showing any type of actual love for Eda or attention for lilith until she can manage to "fix her child", and this goes too for a lot of people with some condition, like stuttering or neurodivergetn people, whos parents try to "hide and fix the problem" and not understanding that THAT is how they are, they need to accept that same way Eda and Rumi accepted at the end and by doing that they improve themselves in their way of living, same for lgbtq people whose parents try to "fix them" and dont accept them as how they are. That is Conditional love, and is not true love, they dont love who they are, they just want someone who do as they are told, which usually fits in the whole "old values" ways, specially for those in the asian countries like korea (kpop) which parents are over controlling their lives even if they are already adults, but it happens too in the west, where being "different" makes parents say you shold be ashamed of yourself and always try to reject different ways of viewd... in latinoamerica, if you are a kid with parents that are religious and decideyou dont wanna be in that religion, they go hard on that, the whole town/community can go hard on you to point of bullying and even punishing phisically and mentally you until "you get fixed" since they dnt care for new waysof thinking of globalizatin, they just care that you become what your parents want and they are what their parents wanted and so on... kinda sad cycle of hate, and that was actually Rumi's point with the songs: they keep putting HATE in the songs, they are supposed to unify peope, and hate dont unify people, they put people against each other, and sadly there are countries in this moment doing exactly that, (quoting bender from futurama) saying they are spreading the love and peaceful ways of living of their beliefs... by force because if you dont do it, you must be against them...

Swendle

Here’s a name for Alicia and Ant: AliciAnt

Broccoli Ben

Great movie! Not perfect, everything you two mentioned towards the ends makes a lot of sense, but I love how expressive it is with the characters the most.

YukoValis

Is it too shallow to say I like Mira the best because of her weapon? I'm a sucker for polearms, and that glowing cheolyeomchu goes hard.

James Rhaesa

apparently it was meant to be 3 hours and netflix made them cut so much of it. Also creator said they have enough material currently for 9 more movies to flesh out the world XD

Kaltrec

Are we suppose to feel sad for Jinu? Because that boy choose to betray everyone he's ever been close with

Ryan Whorton

Not gonna lie. Kind of think that's the right call. Too many movies usually can be shortened to "90 minute get to the point" version.

Julio Castillo

Zoey is definitely my favorite personality-wise… But Mira absolutely takes the gold medal for Badassery thanks to her weapon.

Julio Castillo

Favorite Huntrix: Zoey Favorite Song: Your Idol (the demon drip, the unpredictability of the melody despite being a Trap song… combined with the backing crowd vocals… really did it for me). I could talk extensively about the whole movie, as well as my thoughts on Jinu’s character… but this comment would be too long and i’m too tired for that right now. BUT i just wanna say… if they ever do a sequel… i bet they’re gonna make it more focused on Rumi and Celine’s relationship, as well as Rumi discovering more about her bio parents. That scene of her talking to Rumi when it’s all falling apart it’s very good but… they kinda left the rift between them without a proper conclusion. It really feels like they wanted to give more spotlight to Celine but had to cut much of it out… either for budget reasons or because it would’ve messed up the pace of the film (or both).

Mark Gorman

I hate the "oh she could have said something earlier" argument because they demonstrate that Celine quite literally pushed Rumi to hide it and communicated to her that it was something they wouldn't understand and that she had to cover up. Why would she have revealed that now when her own mentor pushed her to believe that no one would understand for years?

Wrantheim

I love how Gwi-Ma and Alicia basically had the same laugh there.

Loki (not that one)

Yeah exactly, also, when Mira and Zoey did find out, no matter what they were thinking, they did point their blades at Rumi, so her fear of telling them was entirely warranted

Umbra_Nex

On the "major plot point being not communicating" thing... I usually agree. However, it would make way less sense for Rumi to have told them in this movie. They showed that she was essentially brainwashed from childhood that she can never show her patterns to anyone and that demons are all evil and then as she got older and the Celine formed Huntrix around Rumi, it showed that Celine still brainwashed Rumi into thinking that her friends could never accept her. It is INCREDIBLY hard to overcome that much programming, especially when its started from childhood. If she was going to open up and communicate with them, they should not show the childhood scene at least, because it would feel more realistic how it is, with her trying to hide it up until it comes out and everythign blows up in her face. Thanks! I am so happy you guys enjoyed the movie and I got to see your reaction! edit: "wishing they explored why she was half demon" - I may be wrong here, as nothing was ever explicitly stated, but I think that they gave us enough to imply why she was going demon mode and why she was "half demon". First, it was made clear that it is deep shame that feeds the demon marks. Most are controlled by Gwi-ma as it seems like they were likely all offered "deals" by him, which like monkey paw wishes ended up badly and causing them great shame they stew with, and Gwi-ma is able to whisper to them as the origin of the marks. HOWEVER, I believe that Rumi was "turned" into a demon by Celine, and maybe Rumi's mother. We know that Rumi's father was a demon, and as you noted, either Rumis mom slept with a demon or she was... forcibly slept with. In either case, Celine would see Rumi as a "mistake" since she clearly is deep in the belief of all demons are evil and bad. Rumi's mom may also have had issues with Rumi if it was, in fact, non consensual, and may have taken it out on her before passing away. Either way, Rumi ended up being raised by Celine, and as we saw, Celine GREATLY pushed the belief on Rumi that she had to be ashamed of who she is and who her father was... so while we dont know about before the scene of her as a child, its my belief that Rumi likely was born without patterns, and either given her small version by her mother if the mother saw her as a mistake (as children are very perceptive, far more than most people give them credit for) or even if her mother unconsciously felt bad for who the father was due to her affiliation as a hunter or she was given the small mark by Celine when Celine found out who her father was and started the unconscious indoctrination of her being a mistake. Either way, Rumi then had a small mark on her arm, and we saw how Celine treated her and how she talked to her. Even when demon Rumi confronted Celine at the end, nothing Celine said was actually nice. If you noticed, Celine still made it clear that she considered Rumi a mistake and heavily implied that the only reason she raised her and cared for her is because of the promise made before she knew there was a "child like her". So essentially, I think that Rumi was "turned" into a demon by Celine, and maybe Rumis mother. This also explains why Gwi-ma did not actually control her, as her "demonness" did not originate from a deal with Gwi-ma like it did with every other demon or person we saw get turned or start to get turned.

Rinthewolf

There are so many nice touches in this movie. First, when thery show the groups of hunters through the generations, not only do you get a nice idea of the type pf music they're singing at the time, but you also see how each generation becomes more animated during their performance. Then during How It's Done, when the girls are falling and doing their makeup, you can see Mira's eyes barely move to track her reflection in the mirror until she sees she looks good. When Rumi tells Bobby "We'll be there in 3" it take just under 3 minutes from then for them to land on the stage. There are a TON more, but i'm not gonna post a wall of text.

Rinthewolf

For anyone not aware, Jinu's Lament (the song he sings when we first meet him) has an extended version and it's amazing.

Rinthewolf

I don't think Jinu actually abandoned his family. If that was his plan, he wouldn't have walked them to the palace, holding his little sister's hand the whole time. I think he was planning to bring them with him, but the king wouldn't let them in. And in those days, there was no "If my family can't come, i don't want the job"

Nightmareman99

Damn didn’t think this movie was for me but 20mins in and already having so much fun 😂😂😂 Man movie was sooooo good!!! And as a warframe fan having ANOTHER demon boy band was funny as hell. As for Jinu I don’t think he left his family intentional. He literally sold his soul to the devil my guess is that they had some influence over him from the moment he made the deal. Maybe Gwi-Ma forced him to leave his family behind then altered his memories making him think he did it completely of his own accord keeping him consumed by his guilt

Nightmareman99

Yeah I usually hate those plot points but in the context of this film it makes sense. The girl was literally raised to hate and be ashamed of a part of herself. If she couldn’t even accept it then why would other mentality

PWMARSH17

"Goo Goo Gah Gah."

David

The whole movie feels rushed because of that, so no it wasn’t the right call, I get what you’re saying, but this time I couldn’t really get attached to any characters besides Rumi and some parts seemed forced, not natural and rushed because they had to shorten it

Giddo

This is a good movie but the writing definitely could have been better. It feels like Encanto where it's less about the plot and more about the songs

Drago the dragon pokemon

uh isn't that the idea its called KPop demon hunters so a lot of songs are gonna happen

Giddo

It's not about having a lot of songs. You can make a lot of songs in a movie AND make the story better. There's just a lot of plot lines that weren't really fleshed out and some of them felt rushed. Like I said, it's a good movie but it's the kind of movie that you don't turn on to watch, you turn it on to listen to the songs

Kyle Junge

This is a great reaction and loved thier thoughts for the most part but gotta say in regards the their criticism about the lack of communication... I do agree that a lot of the time lack of communication is a lazy plot point but that's only when communicating would be easy and they just choose not to. the way they talked about this makes me think that neither of these girls really understands shame... and that is great for them, but it makes their lack of understanding about Rumi's shame kind of hard to watch. The idea of having some inate part of you that you are so ashamed of due to upbringing and generational trauma that you would almost rather see everything burn rather than admit to yourself what you are let alon admit to others feels really relateable and it makes me sad that the ladies see it as a flaw in the writing when it feels so so realistic to me.

Clayton Stewart

Love the fact that they've already been green-lit for a second movie!

Klaus

I heard from someone that the movie was originally almost 3 hours but netflix only wanted it to be 90 mins so thats why some parts felt rushed

Xanis

Alicia be like "are we sure all demons are back, because if your Mom f*cked a demon..." Meanwhile, Alicia being down bad for every evil, evil looking, muscle bound, glowy-eyed mofo...

Kap

"Demons use language to manipulate and deceive people" -Frieren the Slayer. Frieren will always be the best demon killer in anime. For her it's on sight with demons.

Kap

It’s easy to miss him telling gwi-ma that he intends to use shame to break Rumi. He’s clearly a great manipulator since h fooled viewers into thinking he was decent.

Kap

How is wanting to see millions of people killed by demons "valid"?

Kap

So, they are just gonna rehash this movie with new songs and idols or are they going to make a less engaging movie while praying that brand recognition will turn it into a success? Sometimes it's best to take a win and just leave it at that. Not every successful movie needs a sequel. Look at Joker or Pacific Rim for a prime example of what happens when you chase the dollar and end up making a sequel so shitty that people forget they exist.

Kap

He could've easily have left the palace with them. He chose to stay and let his mother and sister waste away in the gutter.

Kap

I mean, we don't see any reason not to believe that the demons are evil.

Kap

well yeah, rapists tend to be monsters, demonic patterns or no

Kap

sounds like a cope to prevent them from realizing the truth that Jinu was shit in his human life just like how he is shit in his demon life

Kap

Fun fact: the little girl who shows us the rumi jinu ship name is also the first human to get her soul ripped out by a demon once the homoon starts to fail. Yep, the biggest jinu rumi shipper has her life cut short at a young age because of Jinu.

Mune_Lite

Where did that come from? We have 0 idea how Rumi was Conceived

Maddie

so from the girls saying to bobby they will be 3 and ending the call it takes them 2:46 to reach the show they was actually there in 3 lol

MegaMert

The ending/final act feels so disappointing to me, I loved the first half but rest is just so disappointing, the whole point of questioning if demons are bad and what their stories are is ignored, they practically only accept Rumi and the two mascots and lock the rest away, in some ways it almost feels like intentionally leaving things for a sequel but at the same time there is a major resolution at the end.

Vivica the witch

I feel like there were 3-5 scenes missing in act 3

KatoBen

KPop Demon Hunter is the prime example of the kind of movie you can get when a studio does not interfere with it's production. Sony let the woman who orchestrated all the music for Spider-Verse build this whole movie, only for the execs to sell it to Netflix from the dollar bin. The Sony Execs literally believe that the film was too niche and wouldn't make them much money, so they opted to sell it to Netflix for pennies on the dollar. Even worse, because of a pre-existing bias against distributing singles created for movies, Sony Music opted to give away the distribution rights. Honestly, this outcome was probably for the best. Considering the Sony execs considered the film financially dead, if they had interfered with the production like they do with many big box office releases, they movie may have neem turned into garbage through their hands alone. Netflix has announced intentions to create a sequel and a musical stage show. I am doubtful if the sequel can be as successful. As we've seen with the Mandelorian, once execs know a series is successful, they start putting their hands in the pot, adding terrible ideas. And then there's going to be the contractual terms between Netflix and Sony. Did Netflix buy the rights out right? Does Sony have any guarantee only they can make sequels related to KDH? If they don't, would Netflix try to find a different animation studio? (because there's no way Sony wouldn't negotiate for better royalties next time.) There's too many cracks in the wall to make me thrilled about a sequel. I'm hopeful, but will not be surprised at all.

And honestly, even IF studio execs actually keep out of it and just trust the people who made the first success to do their thing, and even if the original creators are actually passionate about their sequel instead of just doing it because the studio mandated it or because they need the paycheck, that's still no guarantee that it'll be great. I'm sure every artist in every medium out there would love to just pump out hit after hit, but sometimes you happen to catch lightning in a bottle and trying to make a follow-up just never quite hits the way that the first one did. Not that I'm just straight up opposed to sequels or anything like that. There have been some genuinely great sequel/prequel stories out there that managed to live up to or even surpass their predecessors. I'm always just hesitant when it comes to sequels in general, and I'm especially hesitant when the first entry was extremely popular. Mostly because I feel like there have been a lot of cases where either the studios or writers ended up pandering to things that people enjoyed in the original (e.g. something like resurrecting the Saja Boys and making the popular ships official because they know they're popular) and throwing in references/callbacks in a way that makes it feel kind of...fake, I guess? Like it was more about cashing in without any real idea of what to do with it instead of actually about expanding on the universe.

I thought it was a bit of a strange criticism too. Especially from Alicia considering some of the things she's talked about regarding her own life (I'm not familiar enough with her guest to make a comment there). There's a big difference between characters not communicating purely because the plot needs characters not to communicate in order to work, and characters not communicating for reasons that are pretty well established as part of their characterization and circumstances. A major plot element of the film is focused on Rumi having been raised to feel ashamed of her very existence, to the point where she outright asks someone to kill her when she's no longer able to hide the things she's been taught are "wrong" with her. Frankly I think it'd be pretty unrealistic for her NOT to struggle with communicating about it, especially given how consistently her friends say and do things that suggest they completely agree that the thing she's hiding is something fundamentally wrong with the world. Like...if this was a story about a closeted gay person who was raised by an extremely conservative family right in the middle of Bible Belt U.S.A. - an environment where they were constantly being told how sinful and wrong homosexuality is, and where they know that their friends were raised in similar circumstances and may hold similar views - would they say that it was bad writing if that character didn't just "communicate like an adult" with their friends about coming out?

Yep. They confirmed that it was an accident and involved Rumi's father, but they haven't mentioned any other details in case they want to address it in a potential sequel. There are some deleted scenes and storyboards with a few more implications about what went down, but they aren't super detailed. They're also, well, deleted. Without knowing exactly when/why they were written and cut it's hard to count them as an official part of the lore. Like, if it was cut for time then we could probably pretty reliably say that it's supposed to be in there and take it as official unless they release a new story that overrides it, but if it was cut earlier on in development because they decided they wanted to go in a different direction with the idea then it's basically just in fun fact territory.

Alicia and Mikki didn't react to something as I thought they would given the bulidup: Rumi FIXED Jinu! XD

Adam Burrows

It's just that triple side glance with the "Oh Honey" that gets me 33:20

No, he couldn't. In those days, in Korea, if the king wants you, you show up. Thumbing your nose at the invitation because your mom and sister weren't invited is a guarantee that all three of you are killed for insulting the king.

Purist

OK, I get it now.

Lucifer 669

This movie really needed an extra 30 minutes to be a 10/10 for me.

Soda Pop is such a clever song - it's a rare triple entendre. Surface: It's a song about drinking soda. Double entendre: It's a song about eating pussy. Triple entendre: it's a song about eating souls.

Spirited Symphony

Hopefully the address how not every demon is evil and them being trapped for eternity with gwi ma is kinda crazy. Jinu and rumi’s father prove demons can change or aren’t inherently malevolent. The second movie could build on that and it’d be engaging.

Nah the manager themselves don't get paid much, it's the corpo behind them and the CEO that takes the lion share.

this is unrelated to what u said but i did not realize its been almost a year since this comment LMAOO

Luke O'Donnell

The thing I will always laugh at is when they talk about "the finale with the guy turning into confetti", that implies How It's Done was the last song, meaning the concert was one song long

I kinda feel like Rumi is not having second thoughts about slaying demons just because of Jinu, but because if all demons are bad, what does it make her? She's half demon herself. I think this movie failed to explore the demon side as it should, one of the main character's entire plot revolves around it but we don't see much from it.
