Wtf dude…

I loooved the way they handled the emotional visualisation for this episode, his story is so real, especially for japan, and even tho Shizuka is being a little demon her responses are understandable as a neglected kid with abandonment issues. This show makes me wanna call CPS on all its characters and get them some help..

Chappy

Yeah, this is the point in the story when Shizuka goes far past just broken and hurt to total sociopath. Previously it was, "this is a bit iffy, she's uncomfortably happy with this murder but I get it, kid was a monster and caused and mocked her losing her dog" and now she's "I'm going to knowingly and happily manipulate this boy because he said he'd help." Which, I kind of understand, she had been beaten down, both physically and mentally just barely keeping things together thanks to her dog. Then that final lifeline is taken. She's super close to suicide when the tiniest glimmer of hope that her dog is alive shows up and she becomes laser focused on that, no one nor anything else matters, just getting the one good thing in her life back.

Honestly, I hope the black hair girl gets the help she needs, even if its going to a child psych ward. This series feels like a PSA about children who don't have a support network/group. Luckily the boy was able to get the help he needed from his brother. But when you look at both girls, they didn't have that support. The blond girl took out her frustrations on the daughter of the women that was upsetting her mother, and black hair girl was bullying relentlessly, probably by students and teachers because of who her mother was. I mean we hear a couple women already grossing about what happened and about the boy, so would it really be incorrect to assume the town looked down on her, because of her mother?

I feel like for Shizuka, she's so emotionally disconnected now, after all she never really gotten help after the bullying stop, I think her manipulation is a kind of unintentional? Like with her spouting things so casually, she doesn't know what power she has over Kazume. It has been established she really needs her dog to live and I assume that still applies even if she made a friend. Her actions are not justified but I do understand why Shizuka developed the way she did at this point.

takopi isnt useful anymore because takopi is no longer innocent. when takopi didnt understand the consequences of their actions, they could act easily, now they cant. Shizuka doesnt have examples of healthy emotions whatsoever. No one treats her with any empathy so she has no idea how to have empathy for others. Im not even entirely sure shes being manipulative. when someone offers to take care of one of her problems shes incredibly thankful and when they dont, they no longer matter to her because she thinks that means she doesnt matter to them either.I get how she probably comes off as a sociopath, but I think thats probably not the case, she probably wouldnt have killed herself if she was an actual sociopath. I think the major thing, is no one asks her to talk about her feelings. She might not even have the words to talk about them because she is so divorced from the concept because of her homelife and how society has treated her.

Nah, I understand Shizuka. I don't aprove, of course, but I understand. She went through hell, Marina beat her both phisically and mentally for years. No one did nothing. No adult or kid moved a single finger. Not his mother, not the glasses kid whose name I forgot after a minute of seing the ep cause I suck at remembering names. One that, to be fair, wasnt even as manipulated. He digged his grave all alone cause his own mental state. Shizuka was happy of Marina dying not cause the fact of her dying perse but for the feeling of "God, I'm free of her now, free of the demon that tortured me" and now, having to face the fact that they will take her into prision shes like "Nah, I can finally live, I'm not going back to hell, specially for her."

This might be the best art/direction/whatever you want to call it for an anime episode this year. I know that's pretty contentious, as there were some phenomenal episodes this year, but holy moly it was absolutely a joy(material notwithstanding) to watch. Knowing Alicia went to film school, I knew she would love this episode

Jae

I feel it is a bit weird to not have Takopi give themselves up instead of Azuma . . But maybe thats because Shizuka actually is attached to them now with what they did to Marina. So now Takopi is on the same level of care as Chappy for her.

ComradeRaccVT

I get that its probably a great show but I'm just not down for suffering: the anime type shit rn

Jacob Funckes

Me personally I can handle shows like this but for now I'm just waiting for all the episodes to come out, this is the kind of anime I either watch in one sitting or not at all.

MyOnisan

i love that you are reacting to this anime <3

samuel

idk why everyone forgets that shizuka didnt kill marina .... and personally while it sucks that she's manipulative , were talking about a 9 year-old child that was ready to kill herself if it wasnt for her dog , so im not that surprised that she doesnt care about anything else

samuel

azuma best boy tho im glad he got out of this stuff before it became worse

One G. O A. T. One Dream

saying Shizuka is rotten, well yeah I bet she is. Her mom clearly has issues, got her with some guy who left her. all she had in life was dog, thats likely dead while being bullied every day. Oh wow, you saying she only cares for her one piece of happiness in life, that she thinks affection and caring for others is to hug them. Gee wonder why the traumatized neglected child did not lern to care for others than herself while having no one but herself to rely on for most her life. Like who the F should she haver learned positive love from? Her bullises in class? her prostitute mother? her abenst farther? That hobo down the with candy street??? Oh maybe from the childish alien with a childlike understanding of the world. Like being mad at her for being a cold manipulating selfish person who only cares about her dog is akin to being angry at the rain for being wet. Yet that said: Its called Original Sin, I think Takopis sin to not understand the deapth of the situation here. Shizuka is a victim of a abusive world, and need help. but Takopi is NOT HELPING!

Gildarts1#fan

you can't be too harsh on the abused child

StorytellerDave

Honestly, it's really F'd that Shizuka didn't kill the girl but everyone blames her for it already. All the classmates immediately jump that she did it. After Azuma gets help all the older people immediately blame shizuka for it... She did nothing wrong, she took the abuse until she couldn't anymore and killed herself, and now she is at the same point she is ready to break and the only reason she hasn't yet killed herself is that she thinks that MAYBE her dog is still alive in Tokyo. Wtf kind of curse is on this little girl that everyone instantly thinks she's the spawn of fucking Satan or some shit...I feel so bad for her. Anything bad happens it's instantly her fault, as if she has not suffered enough. Freaking Takopi killed Marina, she didn't do jack, she did not even fight back once. She just took the abuse over and over...

Dysike

"This suicidal child needs to take responsibility to fix their own mental health or just kill herself again" is kind of a wild take

Dysike

I was referring to the prediction at the end, saying she'll wind up killing herself again if she doesn't "change as a person... she's never gotten better, she's just kept being herself the whole time" which given it directly follows you saying "no matter what you change in life, the outcome will be the same if you don't change as a person" I'm not sure how to read that except as a statement that she needs to fix her own emotional problems somehow

drZ

Trauma explains behaviours but does not excuse them. I think it actually helps to talk about those dynamics as if they were happening between adults because all the people watching are adults. Abusers often weaponize their trauma. Also it is confusing to put quotation marks if you are paraphrazing.

Mantis

Right like I think the biggest driving factor for her right now is to make absolutely sure her only friend in the world is actually alive rn

Mantis

Saying “if you don’t change as a person you’re going to repeat mistakes” mistakes in this case being suicide, is a LOT different than saying “if you don’t grow as a person you should kill yourself” which is how you seem to be interpreting what she said ??

shooty-san

It is pretty crazy that Alicia of all people didn’t understand how Shizuka (a 9 year old going off how old Google says children in 4th grade in Japan are and how old Google says she is) would be incredibly apathetic and emotionless and only care about the one thing that’s ever brought her happiness and joy. The one thing that’s even fueling her will to live.
