While I prefer the manga version more, I wouldn't say it's much better, just two entirely different visual representations for the same thing. Anime is much more showy and flashy, while the manga is simple and direct. Which makes sense, they are for two entirely different audiences by design and even ignoring that, simple visuals are faster to draw and easier to understand, while making simple look good in animation is really difficult. Done right, it works, like it did with Luffy's first punch in Gear 5 against Lucci. Done wrong, it looks out of place.

Garp at Bee Hive still amazes me. We knew he was strong, but most of it was from second hand sources a few feats of strength like throwing cannon balls like they were tennis balls. To see him go all out at Bee Hive is another thing altogether though. Dude is a walking WMD armed with nothing but a grin and Haki. It’s not Gear 5 Reveal level of awesome, but it’s well on up there.

I think that Garp’s strength and eagerness when saving Coby really puts into perspective just how cowardly and indecisive he was being at Marineford. With his strength he could have easily saved Ace whenever he wanted; or alternatively he could have ended the war early by fighting whitebeard himself and prevented thousands of Marine casualties. Instead, he did literally nothing and we got the worst possible outcome for everyone involved. Dadan was right.

I don't think either Kid or Law would bend the knee either way, even if swapped, when both Blackbeard and Shanks want the poneglyphs. Let's not forget that even if he's a murderous jerk , Kid refused Kaido and wanna be the king. Also Blackbeard was even less prone to spare or negociate when he basically steals useful Devil Fruits

Remember back in Marineford, when Sengoku had to hold Garp down after Akainu killed Ace. Garp told Sengoku if he didn't keep holding him, he would kill Akainu. "THIS IS PROOF HE WOULD HAVE!" By all accounts Garp is in the top 5 strongest in the Navy.

Pretty much. Also he ain't as dumb as you think he is. He probably Saw that connection between Koby and Hibari at some point. And him probably knowing Koby's nature, knew he wouldn't leave Hibari behind, therefore, keeping him on the island for longer than if he Hadn't frozen her.

Indecisive, yes. Cowardly? Absolutely not. If he throws away his Marine code and saves Ace, not only is he giving up the ability he has to save people through his commission, but he's also tarnishing the image of the Marines. "The hero Garp betrays everything to save the son of Gold Roger" isn't gonna go over well with the common folk and they're gonna lose faith in the Marines as an institution. Garp himself meanwhile, if he isn't outright executed, becomes a wanted man with a reputation ruined by the government. On the other hand, if he goes all out and fights the Whitebeard pirates, he brings Ace that much closer to execution. He was stuck in a terrible position and really he was just hoping he could do the bare minimum and maybe things would work out for the best. There's nothing cowardly about being unable to make an impossible choice. With Coby, he doesn't have to think at all. He's a Marine, crushing pirates to save a fellow Marine. It fits his code, his morals, and while it's technically against the rules, no one is gonna say shit to him. And he probably had no intention of leaving alive in the first place.

First..... this demonstration of power from Garp is yet another thing that makes the Marineford Arc look even worse in retrospect. Second.... just like another person commented here before, Law chose to fight back against Blackbeard... and unlike Kid, he had all the tools necessary to make a succesful escape.... a goddamn Submarine and the power to Teleport, but he didn't... he chose to fight when he didn't have to, which was not as smart decision at all. So he's no better than Kid in this situation... regardless of how damaged both of their crews ended up.

That's THE pirate island ruled by THE Blackbeard. There's no way that place isn't plagued by 300-800m bounty pirates with devil fruits way over what Nami, Chopper, Brook and Usopp can handle on their own. If they ever raid that place it's likely with the entire strawhat fleet following them after a big incident, because a raid on Hachinosu when the whole BB crew is there is a Marineford style war scenario.

The problem with Kid and Law is that they were not the necesary level for the point in the series we're in. No matter which of the three islands they could have chosen, they would have died/loose eitherway. Egghead-Shanks-Teach, them and their crew are just not strong enough. With Luffy is diffferent, he does have the level of a Yonko and his crew has the level of a Yonko crew, in any of the three scenarios they would have had more than a chance. Against Egghead or Teach, sure, against Shanks, debatable but still wouldn't get one shot-ed

Saying that it would've turned out differently if Laws and Kid's islands were switched is crazy work, there is 0 chance Kid would've even attempted to align with Blackbeard and considering he was too prideful to run away Law would've totally squared up with Shanks. Oda really said "I gotta make the other two Emperors solidified threats so lets make these two jobbers rq". Still, it'll be interesting to see how they come back into the story

There's a lot to say about Garp saving Koby, but I think the thing that everyone should consider is that the last time someone important to Garp was held captive, he wasn't allowed to act and Ace ended up getting killed. Now he has the opportunity to act and save another beloved young man, his grandson's friend who became his student. Of course he was going to go all out. Garp could never bear to see Marineford happen again. That said, Garp threw that absolute NUKE of a punch straight at where Koby was, so... Say what you will, but the most danger Koby was in that whole time was probably because of Garp's punch.

I think alicia is forgetting that after ace was killed garp was going to go on the warpath to kill magma man then Sengoku stepped in and held him down with all of his strength just to stop him from turning against the navy while garp told him that if he let go he would kill magma guy.

Its easy to call Garb out for not "saving Ace" But Grab hole character is "I rather die with principles intact, that break them to live another day" So while death is sad, Grab would rather see Ace die doing what Ace believed in, than Ace tring and wisely himself out of the path he took. Its fine being like "Grab is taking rules to serious" because yes, that's his character flaw, and why both Luffy and Dragon said "F current rules world needs to change"
